I dont like the brown bag idea..seems like it would purge resins and oils out of the buds.that's not good.

How many times have you tried it?

Resins inside the bud? Pretty sure its just water. The stuff that gets you high is outside the bud located in the trichome heads.

I don't see any missing "resins" in my bud.

But I could be wrong, show me pictures of your bud and what is looks like with all the "resins" inside. I love bud porn and learning new stuff.

Is it necessary to cut huge/thick colas into smaller buds so it can dry properly and prevent mold?

Nothing is absolute. You can dry it in large chunks if you want to.

I like to dry in smaller parts to get an even dry time

I like to keep large buds all together. When they are finishing the drying in a bag the large buds and the small buds reach a uniform statey of moisture content. The same thing continues when they get switched to large jars or other containers.
