Hey guys! Thanks for all the input!

I'll be doing just some dry sift this time 'round. Picked up a 110 screen (11" x 17") at Michaels, $13.77 w a 50% off coupon. SCORE!

The dry ice seems simple enough - I oughtta ask about the bags next time I'm at the garden center..

:thank you:

Hey sh, haven't done it myself but you can buy the 120 screen and put bud and dry ice in a 5 gallon bucket. Stretch screen over and tie on with the large reuseable zip ties

Easy - Ask and ye shall receive!

jbg29 - That's next on the agenda - stay tuned!

Here's the product itself - in its packaging, actually.

fullsize.jpg

Made by a company called YUDU.

For anyone looking for a screen, this was at Michael's, near the T-Shirt designing crap. The product itself is super duper non-descript (read: easy to not see). It's in the packaging pictured above, and literally about 1/2" thick. They're lined up like books at the library, on their side, .. (These screens also come in 220 and 70. The screen area is 11" x 17", and the whole thing, frame and all, is 15" x 19". There are ~ 3/4" holes at each corner.)

$24.99. (I initially thought they were $17 - turns out I was looking at the wrong item/price thingy. When I saw they were $25, I briefly had a "Maaan, what the fuck..." moment.. Until I googled "Michael's coupons" on my phone. And found a 50% off 1 item. SCORE)

Anyway. I only bothered y'all with those last couple paragraphs because I've been on the hunt (halfassedly, admittedly) for too long..

Here goes:

picture.php

First one to ask why the corners aren't mitred is the last to hit the joint.

picture.php

Okay, actually it's because I needed a solid peace of meat on the corners to connect the screen. :moon:

I just threw down a big washer & drove a screw into each corner to fasten the screen to the frame.

picture.php

Not a great shot - The first run is on the L, --> 'til the fourth.

This is from the Golden Goat trim - of which there was not a bunch. Stuck in the freezer for a couple hours before I worked it..

Worked pretty well - for a first effort, meh.

So far, I've only anchored the screen on to the frame at the corners - where there are prepunched holes (for connection to whatever stupid machine this otherwise goes). I didn't want to muck up the frame until I'd had a chance to use it & tweak a design.

That said, it would be nice to drive a few more screws into the frame, to fasten the screen down the sides, and not only at the corners. If I wasn't careful, some errant pieces of trim (chunks of leaf, cracked-black-pepper size) would end up on the table. Not a total party foul, but not exactly desirable either.

Next time I'm at the garden center, I need to check on the dry ice screen bag gimmick deal. I like the sounds of that, .. My lazy ass was about done sifting, sheesh.

Yay. Fuck BHO. I'm all about solvent less hash. Check out Matt Rize and see what kinda bubble that dude is making. Simple google search will turn up yummy pics of the fire.

I had some late Nanners on my last run. No worries. If its manageable simply tweez. If not no worries. Not enough time to produce seeds of an sort of maturity. I haven't found a bean yet!

Damn. . . "Gotta spread more rep". . . you know the deal.

Gotta love resin, regardless of collection method. Killer sifter. Making stuff out of wood is very satisfying!

Looks nice. I've done the dry ice and BHO. Next time I'm trying bubble. I really like dabbing the BHO but my favorite thing in the world is a nice smooth joint. Problem is BHO has been killing my tolerance to flowers. So I'm doing bubble next cause I got a bit toasted one night and ordered the bags 6 months ago and have yet to use them. Something I can add to a joint or top a bowl with is what I'm looking for. The dry ice was by far the easiest if you got a nice clean surface and 10 minutes on your hands. Probably the best return also but obviously least pure. Its just soo easy if the end result is something you can enjoy. I understand the search for purity when it comes to dispensary stuff though.

Thanks budman!

LouDog, que pasa?!

Mr! Y'know, .. I don't DISlike the BHO, but I found it cumbersome to smoke, .. I know, .. Need the right tool for the job beavis.

What I don't like about bubble (or at least the bubble I've had) is that it basically seems like lousy dry sift, chunked together. .. which means I need to break it BACK down, .. :shucks:

Sounds like you got some out of the trash bag. Real bubble (the kind that actually bubbles when you hit it) can't be broken down into anything more than sticky little globs. The trash bag however produces what amounts to shitty dry sift that got wet.

Thanks jbg! :yummy: It doesn't suck. :D

Hmm. I'm at a bit of an impasse.

StrawDD. Day 62. All cloudy, maybe 5% amber (?!). As best my brokeass eyes can tell with this brokeass loupe.

The question: To harvest now, or in 10 days?

Difficulty: No in between. Holidays. Company.

Calyxes don't appear to be as swollen as they could be, but i'm also not sure how terribly senesced she'll look in 10 days.. ?!

Anyone? Bueller?

Damn, don't check this thread for a few days, and miss a buncha concentrate talk, and screen building! You already saw my sifter, so instead I'll just throw in my two cents on the different collection methods... A defender of the solvents!!

Never tried dry ice or shooting butane... If I did, I'd probably put them together, and do a thermos soak with the dry ice hash. There isn't much more I love than dabbing, and ya can't dab the dry sift, and have a hard time with even good bubble...

I've got a set of bubble bags and they produce kickass material without a doubt, but before that used paint strainers for 5 gallon buckets thanks to grownout. At your local home improvement store and just beat the frozen trim in your ice water, strain it with your paint strainer, and then let the goodies settle and siphon off the top. Check out gumby hash, another name for it, cheap and very nice for the materials needed...

I love my sifting screen for seed sorting/trimming, but other than that, I don't sift too often. The amount I get from trimming, sorting, and crude grinder sift keeps me in golden stuff...

I always come back to dabbing and ethanol washes though. The sheer potency, and flavor when done right is the best. I get an everclear off brand that is 96% ethanol. Freeze it and your trim, throw it in a jar and shake for 30-60 seconds. Dump it into a plastic bag with the corner cut out to squeeze out all the alcohol. Run the alcohol through your coffee filters. Let it evaporate naturally (about 24-36 hours) in a VERY THIN film and then scrape.

A few keys to making that fine shatter oil...

No to very low heat. Heat definitely messes with the flavors and my best batches have always been evaporated away just using ambient temps and open air.

Very small batches when evaporating. It goes quicker, and with thin films, ethanol doesn't get trapped beneath the surface as it hardens. My best batches look almost like there's a thin frost on the plate, and then it scrapes to a golden powder. Just pushing it between your fingers turns it into a hard dark piece of shatter. Reds/purples/browns depending on the herb. I do large washes, and then have several dishes and just constantly have some evaporating and the rest suspended in a jar.

If ya fuck up and try too big of a batch or something else, just redissolve it, and try again. Almost fool proof ;)

Gotta go dab a few more after that post!! Many of pics of everything in my album titled 'HASH'

Peace!

I've changed my mind... The straw dd hasn't even gone a full 9 weeks! A few days over 10 would be significantly better...

As for the bubble you've sampled... I have better... Maybe I can scrape something together before we meet up... Or by the next time.

Lou bro get yourself a separatory funnel and run water through your solvent before evaporating... This removes all of the chlorophyl picked up by the alcohol. Night and day difference. Heat destroys terpenes, that's why the oil doesn't taste as good after it's been cooked.

Personally I prefer buds to hash...
