So I have 150 hps and a 250 hps. I was wondering if I could buy a 200w hps and a 310hps bulbs or would they ruin the ballasts?

yeah but its the power through the ballast that drives the bulb.. in other words if your put a 400 watt bulb in a 150 watt ballast it won't give the full 400 watt lumens..

Are you talking about low-wattage HID lights for cars?

Electronic Ballast
The new ballast has a tailoring baseboard complication design, which is convenient for ballast heat dissipation.
Same size but different power categories, convenient for clients to install various power products
Can use central installation, side edge installation and other categories
Various specifications such as AC 220V/347V, 110-277V, etc.
Convenient for making the ballast voltage signal smooth and stable in order to achieve a stable overall property of the ballast
The special ship technology provides AC electronic ballast open-circuit and short-circuits protection property
A wide temperature applied range provides induction lamp firm output power signal
Stable starting and power property in a wide voltage fluctuation
The dimming performance makes the induction lamps more suitable for industry, business and home furnishing, as well as other areas.
Various DC ballasts can be applied into emergency lighting, solar energy lighting and other areas.
The Miniwatt 36V AC ballast can be applied to specific safe voltage situations.
The overlong switch stability can make it work well in occasions of frequent turning on and off the switches.

Smoky,
Whatever kind of ballast you have, they're made to power a certain wattage bulb, and along with not working, you could fry your ballast.
