Static shock - I've never seen or had an absolute amber come out waxy looking and not see threw. Was this winterized?
Its a ghetto absolute, I used 91% qwiso instead of everclear since my state doesnt sell it.
And no my qwiso was cold as shit but I didn't winterize technically.

I imagine the added water content brought me the waxyness.
But thats only a speculation.
I myself never got waxy absolute, but I remember medicalgreen's description of the experience of 151 proof ethanol
which made on me such a strong impression that I have many times cited it as an example,
claiming that not enough strong alcohol is not working for Absolute, or not working properly.

Hey Jump,
I have some response and more questions for you.
I tried dissolving that wax mass, by heating my alcohol, in a double boiler situation. I took the outer water to 140 degrees F. That brought the inner alcohol to a boil almost. I left it like that for about 45 minutes. I re-filtered it, and got almost 1 more gram from that mass. The shatter was slightly sticky, but i'm sure it'll harden up in time. Then I took that mass, and placed it onto a warm pyrex and it melted JUST LIKE WAX!
There was nothing left in it, that looked even slightly recoverable. The whole mass never dissolved in the warmed alcohol. It seems like no matter what I do, I cannot dissolve it. BUT, on the good side, i'm beginning to think this may be better, anyways. What's the point of dissolving something that will eventually be separated anyways? So, in other words, what i'm thinking here, is that it's GOOD that the 151 does not completely dissolve the waxes and fats and lipids. Less work in the long run, it would appear.

I think I was right, for the most part, that it is indeed BHO Poop. looks like a turd to me. Melts exactly like a wax would, too. The only thing I have left to do, I think, is to try smoking it, with no other herb or oil, in the beginning of the day, and see how it affects me.

here are the pics I took of it in the filter, then dropped out of the filter.

static shock ,
Your sample certainly looks much more attractive.

Please answer, in the cooking process you also get the pulp instead of the solution?

When and how the extract has acquired the consistency of wax?

If I had to guess, I'd say that the first sludge sample is a curdling or splitting of the oleoresin and alchol/water and that the second sample is an emulsion or colloid of the oleoresin and alcohol/water. When you add something that isn't miscible with another, it splits. The same thing happens with cake batters or salad dressings when too much fat or liquid is added or if it's added faster than the emulsifier (lecithin in egg yokes etc) can deal with. When a successful emulsion is created, it turns more cloudy or milky in appearance, as the tiny suspended particles scatter the light (Tyndall effect).

Nope. And when I make QWISO.
I almost always get a waxy consistency. No whipping involved.
Can't say why that is.
but I can say QWISO is easy peasy for small amounts. 7 grams or less that is.

I believe the pocket cure I do when my oil changes my sap to more of a wax or budder.

left it in my pocket on a piece of parchement paper for 72 hours after my heat purge.

Gonna be making more soon from the same strain and same method. We will see what happens

Throw some taters under the bed :)

:thank you:
But Wisconsin isn't too far :tiphat:

Were you using 91% iso each time that it turned waxy, or have you used stronger iso and notice it turn waxy?

Did it turn waxy upon the heat purge or only after the pocket purge? If it was only after the pocket purge then it may be down to your movements repeatedly flexing the sample and causing micro-fissures. This would scatter the light and whiten the appearance of the oleoresin.

no i used 100% iso before and got waxy, budder without whipping

after the heat purge when i first scraped it up.

What made you think that it was down to the pocket purge before, if you say that it was waxy after doing the initial heat purge? Did you filter the alcohol solution after dissolving the BHO? If so, with what and did you notice any precipate in the alcohol or residue in the filter?

because other saps and shatters i have made in this way turned to wax after a couple day pocket purge, this one was right right after evaporation.

yes i filtered it three times. :ying:

a grinder screen (very fine),
wire mesh (less fine),
and an unbleached coffee filter

indeed there was a top layer of precipitate floating that i didn't do anything with.

Either it worked in that layer of leftover wax while in your pocket or it picked something up off it's container, is my guess. I have never used parchment thought, so don't know for sure, I had it come off wax paper. And if the filter while in the freezer seems to be the best, the last little bit is a PITA to get...I'm not sure if there is a saturation point either, I feel like there may be need for a fairly large ratio of solvent to concentrate on the winterization.
