Vacuum purge , whats your style ?

heh guys just got my vacuum pump , and chamber setup going ,
I know my basic way to do it is to get th oil to molten then vac it till 29 hg , hold it for a few min release , repeat ,... but I would like to know your guys methods to vac purge , should I leave the pump runnng the whole time or get it to 29 hg , close ball valve and hold vacuum ?....let me know ?
I will post pics of my first offical vac purfed shatter,.....

The process depends on the product that you wish to end up with.

It saves wear and tear on the pump and accomplishes the same thing, if you cycle it.

For the best shatter, I would start with a thin film at 115F @ -29.9"Hg and watch the bubbles.

Closing a ball valve will not hold 29 in hg for long. As the contamiantes and moisture evaporate the vacuum will drop. I would leave it on vacuum and preferably hooked up to a micron gauge to get a more accurate reading 500 microns is considered 100% dry and conaminate free in the HVAC industry. That will likely not be possible without hour on vacuum. Don't worry bout wearing the pu p out though.

ohioo where would one score such a gauge hvac shop ?. any idea on cost ?, is it 1/8"npt ?,.... thnx for input ... never heard of anyone using these gauges to measure contaminants in bho ,... any else ever use one ?

The micron rating on a vacuum pump is telling you how deep of a vacuum it pulls, the lower the micron rating the better. What he is saying anything at 500 microns is considered the average micron for fully removing moisture or refridgerant from an A/C unit. In my experience this is not the same for purging solvent from a cannabis extract. Also a quick tip if your new to vacuum pumps, make sure to change your pumps oil after a few heavy sessions, the oil becomes contaminated with moisture and solvent, keeping your pump from functioning at its full potential. Alot of people don't discuss this an run there pumps for ever with out changing its oil.

thnx midwst , yah I fairly new to using pumps, . so many different methods out there everyone seems to have their own way to do it , I think I almost got it down, I only doing like 10gr bud at a time till I get it right , I can get shatter , just not wax ,( that is clean, without sizzle) lol ....how long time wise does it take u guys ?

Every strain/material will be slightly different, some take longer, some shorter. I usually purge in a very thin layer untill bubbles stop forming under full vacuum and heat of 110-125F. For lets say 1-5g of raw BHO anywhere from 1-3 hours, in a thin film. The thicker the film of oil the longer the purge, because of less surface area for solvent to escape.

I'm not the wax expert, as I prefer shatter to wax. I just pull until the solvent bubbles stop rising.

You can run the pump steadily, but it just puts more wear on it and wastes pump oil. If you just run it enough to keep the vacuum in the 28/29.9"Hg range, it will purge the solvent.

A point to consider, is that when you are boiling away the solvent, you are also boiling away the lighter mono and sesquiterpenes, so the decision as to how low to pull the vacuum, should take that into consideration.

I just had a chunk of "wax" (whipped amber, which I would even say is crytallized) get on a chunk of amber shatter in my tin, and it made the amber start turning waxy. I really think its a crystallization process that causes the wax, and this would be consistent with heating and manipulating the product under specific temperatures.

oh ya, no sizzle my nizzle !!! , guess I just finding it difficult , to know when to stop vacing ?,....I prob could work this more if I wasnt ready to have a couple dabs , lol ,
