Got a chance to pick up a santa fe dehumidifier for cheap. Problem is, it came out of a room that was infested with PM. Any way to sanitize this thing completely? Thanks

Anyone else have any ideas? Maybe run it in a room with an ozone genny cranked up high? Are people just throwing away equipment that has been exposed to PM spores?
I would do one of two things depending on what you have available:
Ozone
Sulfur burner
The O3 generator has to be powerful tho. Uvonair w bulbs is pretty weak. Only their coronna disharge is worth a sh*t. My Big Blue will kill it tho.
Sulfur burners are a great investment at $100 for the long run. Put em both in a sealed area, turn it on high. PM will be nuked!
Take the filter out and toss it, unplug, spray the whole thing down with physan... Like douse it. Turn it on and purge the line... Then poor another half gal of physan mix directly on the fins and let it pump out. Let sit for a half hour... Rinse the fins with regular water and purge.
Problem is getting down and in the rotary fan. Could also use a high temperature steam cleaner to blow through the guts. Or you can get some tools and open up the shell and really gt in there.
It's a task, but then ul be sparkling clean.

I would recommend virkon to disinfect and it wont cause any corrosion issues like some of the other products listed
pull the filter and mist the cleaner in while the unit is running them let the unit run for a little bit and you should be good

I personally wouldn't fuck with it... more trouble that worth IMO. Getting an evaporator coil completely clean and sanitary is a BITCH.
Taking it all apart and cleaning it with bleach, etc would work, but would be a huge PITA. Leaving it in a room with a sulphur burner or o3 generator would be your best bet.
I would just pick up a new unit.

10% Bleach Solution in a spray bottle is a great cleaning solution.
Recipe as follows:
900ml clean h20
100ml bleach

I hear you but times are changing. This is a $1250 unit that i can get for a song. I`m not too proud to spend an afternoon in PITA land...

I can't see how any PM could live if you put this thing in a room w a sulfur brner and let it run for a while. Don't see why you need to clean it w a tooth brush...

I`m all ears to doing this the easiest way possible. I may be wrong, but my understanding of sulfur treatment is that it doesn`t kill the spores. It coats the surface of whatever it touches and wont allow growth in that spot. I used it back in the day before I used preventative maintenance procedures and it would control, but not kill. Direct me to some info about sulfur killing PM spores and save me some sliced up knuckles! I`m gonna start on this tomorrow...
Bush have you noticed that sulfur is hell on copper yet?

I`m not using sulfur to sanitize this thing. Dug in today with bleach. Got in there pretty good. My biggest concern is inside the fan motor. It`s not sealed so I`m hesitant to spray liquid in there. I`m gonna use compressed air to blow it out and then run it in a room with an ozone generator for a few hours. Do everything a second time and hope for the best. When I used sulfur back in the day, I didn`t have anything copper in the room so have no clue how it would affect it...
a good vacuuming would probably do wonders some of the self serve car washes around here have some powerful units might be a thought
