Medical marijuana grow-ops facing restrictions in Kamloops

Dear God! Can they actually do that!?

I'm waiting on my renewal right now and thankfully I'm not in Kamloops, but I hope this doesn't set a precedent for restrictions. We've already got Aglukkaq trying to revoke our right to grow all together.

I fucking hope they grandfather grower's rights. I'm going to grow no matter what. But it sucks because I shut things down in March of 2011 and haven't been able to start things up again. I'd have for new bylaws or federal laws to be imposed before I get growing again. :(

ya they can, been done in surrey. i think with all the grow/gang situation affecting most of bc, this isnt a bad idea at all. it may suck for those with low/fixed incomes, but get proactive, start a co-op, put 4 lics per warehouse, share the burden, keep residential neighbors "happy" and "safe". grows are public enemy #1 across bc. no need to be any ones
perceived enemy, mm

Easy for you to say. Don't you have a commercial license?

There is definitely abuse, but that doesn't mean that the people abiding by the rules should become casualties of these rulings as well. Took me damn near all of my adult life to get into this program and now it's crumbling.

I live in Surrey. I can throw a rock into Langley. Yet I still have restrictions on where I can grow as I also own a townhouse here with children and am locked into my mortgage for 3 more years. I could easily get a house with a shop in the valley for the $ I have tied up here. It took some work but I found a place to grow out of this town.
The rules suck. Sure. Don't let that get you down. Just work around it.
Like MM said. Get some sort of co op with a few others and rent a warehouse and do it right.
That's what I wish I did as I would have proper space to get what I should off my 78 plants.
Now I am stuck doing a SOG instead of trees.
Don't worry about it.

This is incorrect.
Surrey may be trying, but there are no such laws.... the City of Surrey breaks the law trying to do so

i assure you, its a "bylaw". pitt meadows has a bylaw where no dgs can grow, and plans to eliminate it totally. so trust me, theycan, mm

FYI, if you comply with the ventalation and electrical permits you CAN grow in Surrey. They just make it a bitch too.

My last grow looked like a fucking lab. Calculated all of the ventilation requirements as well as electrical. Didn't need to do any wiring as there was a dryer outlet and power from two different sources near enough to the location we were growing. If and when I do this again, it will obviously be done by code. But my concern is investing another shit ton of money, only to have the government shut it down.

I put way too much money into my last grow because I bought top of the line supplies and materials. Ditching hydro for soil/peat, but the building materials will be a tough investment with shit like this looming overhead.

What are the requirements for commercial growers? The only person I half-way trust has a license for 50 plants and at that level, it's getting into criminal territory. I don't want to attract gangs... I'm in BC and that would bring a lot of heat. I just want to grow my fucking medicine. Spent nearly a decade fighting for the right, then years burying my face in books for growing, building, electrical (hired an electrician to check things, but I still want to know what I'm doing) so I've put a big amount of time and money into this. I don't trust others growing my shit. I'm picky. I want to do it.

it does help when an alarm, cameras and a monitoring company are brought into the equation.

the first rule of any business is to protect it, mm

I was unaware of those changes to the regulations Med Man, and I've been here over 40 years, thanks for bringing that to my attention....

This is correct, it IS NOT illegal to grow in Surrey, no LAW prohibits it.
Those REGULATIONS require permits to make sure electrical is up to code, but they cannot stop you from growing your own medicine.

Haha I'd love to.

I'm also not too scared of small time rippers. I have cameras and a security system even at home, where I have nothing more than a few grams. I keep myself and my family safe. Always grow away from home in a safe location that no one knows about, not leaving paper trails or anything like that. And always growing within my limit.

What I'm scared of is the big guys, the guys who don't care about police. I don't want Hells Angels or some ethnic gang asking for a cut. Just because I'm in really good shape and brown, I get a lot of gangster types always sizing me up. AFOAF had some scary Vietnamese people after him. And another family I knew that was growing (no MMAR) were ratted on by another Asian family. Sucks to be a FOB sometimes.

hey man, grow ripping is innitiation and sizeable income for heavy gangs in bc. its not just crackers and heads, but organized 007 spy store thiefs. crews work nightly in most known neighborhoods, mm
