I use my camera macros and photoshop to check trichs. Found it to be the easiest way to get a broad view without messing them up in the process...

HGO and d.f

:thank you:

Excellent points, .. Though I have to confess, I think I've exhausted both of 'em ..

I had a USB microscope - that junk went back to Amazon after about 90 seconds..

I was tinkering with the photo gimmick this week too. I'd use the macro setting on the camera (only have an 18-55 lens), then go open up the .jpg on the mac (using preview), zoom in, .. And for the most part, it was still blurry [enough to not be useful] when I'd blow it up on the mac..

d.f, think it'll make any difference if I use GiMP to blow it up? :dunno:

Silver, the USB microscopes aren't great I know, that's why I never use mine anymore. If I was you I'd get this harvest in and go invest on a good macro lens. The difference is like night and day, look at it as an investment.

Man, I know nothing about MAC - or other imaging software... I've used photoshop for years and I just know the basics of it - so, I'm a bit limited in my knowledge.

But the camera I use is a Nikon s8200 - and has a great focal length for macros but has a poor fstop - as in it doesn't get low enough to really get a broad focal point in the photos - which mean it takes great pictures of a very small area - and the rest of the photo tends to suffer a bit and be out of true focus...

But because the photos are 16mp - I can use photoshop to crop out an 800 x 600 space of the full size image where it is in perfect focus - and then save for web in jpeg and no meta data -

But I always use a tripod and 10 sec timer when trying to get good macros. And usually in a completely dark room - using a flashlight to get set in place hitting the button - then turn off the flashlight and wait for the picture - seems to work better that way when using a point -n- shoot flash - and prevents any shadows from being cast from side or back lighting.

Get's tedious but I enjoy photography in general, so it doesn't really bother me...

But for an example of a full picture downsized to 800 x 600:

And a 800 x 600 cut section taken from full pixel resolution:

Both are the same picture, technically. Thus why I love photoshop. BUT you can see the limitations of the camera in these photos as well - how just a small portion of the photo, in the center, is in true focus.

And in that area of focus is where I usually check for the color of trichomes, while looking at the image in full resolution while in photoshop.

Dried dead goats

Dried dead goats

Total haul from one 3 gal smartie, with lumber still attached, is 79g.

I'd expect the lumber to be no more'n 10g, ..

We'll find that out soon enough. For now, they're already in cure/burp mode (damned dry winter air), .. In situations like this (where it's s'damned dry and the herb dries more quickly'n I'd like), I like to leave some stem on while they cure, .. Throw a little moisture into the mix.

Yeah, we got the really dry air here too. Pretty much like, "humidity? wtf is humidity?" Last time I chopped at the base and hung the whole damn plant leaves, lumber and all. Seemed to really set the pace. Congrats on the haul,

thats not too bad, i wonder if it would do that in my gear. 70 would be a step up from my best averages of high fifties per 3gal under 600s.

:tiphat: It's funny. As it was finishing up (and even as I was trimming it), I was thinking, "Meh, .. I dunno.. I think I'd be happy with an ounce and a half.." .. but man o man are they solid.

:thank you: I thought about cutting & drying the whole thing, .. But, this particular plant was more senescent than even i usually like, .. And since there were already crusty leaves that had to be removed (closely & sexily), I didn't want to compound the issue.. (In my head, at least..)

But, I did make a couple small changes to the drying gimmick for this round, to slow down the transpiration..

Nice job silver, it was sure fun watching you grow it. I wish I could help you smoke it. heh, heh

Thanks smilley! Stay tuned, .. There will be another round two of the Goat, for sure.. And the Nightmare Diesel will stick around for a while, at least, .. So far, nothing puts out like she does, at all. Both the StrawD x ChemD and the Blue Satellite 2.2 are lagging behind the ND's that were put in at the same age, .. Bigtime.

:yappy: Teaser alert: :whee:
