Pigs came to my house for an unrelated matter.

So I was out today, but my wife was home, and the pigs came round for a completely unrelated matter.

Not a problem at all right? Well...I dunno....

You see after my son was born I moved my tent into the garage, and the garage is right next to the front door. It goes without saying that when the tents ventilation is in full swing it is quite noisy. This is probably alarming for most, as you can clearly hear it at the front door. Stupid I know...But I keep my house visitor free, no couriers, Im as discrete as can be, and people never come here.

So to hear the pigs arrived on my door step and sat there with full blown ventilation noise going has me worried.

My wife rang me instantly. So most people would be freaked and tear everything down, but for me it's a risk versus reward game. The set up I have would probably not result in prison time, in New Zealand we have the search and surveilance act which means that if they suspect they can walk in straight away (and the most certainly do). So the fact that they didn't walk in, they didn;t even try and look around my wife to see what was happening or if they could smell anything, they just told my wife to get me to ring them and left. When I went down to the station they didn't say anything.

Am I being a complete fucking idiot not tearing down?
Or would I be paranoid to do so?

Here in NZ we have a meth epidemic (like most of the world) and thus its highly unlikely that they would go away and perform some covert operation on little old me. I believe, though Im not a pig, that if they were suspicious they would have searched there and then.

Sorry to hear about the scare. That shit is never fun. Obviously you have weighed the pro's and con's. I live in California and I would still tear my shit down if I wasn't legal because I don't want to risk my wife and son getting in the middle of my bullshit.

Just my $0.02, but its not unusual for uncommon noises to be heard coming from inside a garage.

Then again, i live in a land of secret indictments and operation unite.
So i am quite familiar with those mixed thoughts.

a bit of a quandry this one, will i wont i, are ya as game as ned kelly,go for it. buttt like e said wife and new baby, what does the lady of the house say? better leave you with this one. did your misses' say she could smell it when they were there, i had 4 trees, skunk i growing in my yard. one night cops had an exercise game in vacant block otherside of me and never smelt a bloody thing, go figure, best o luck matey.

Smell would never have been an issue. I have a 250mm carbon filter, so no smell what soever. Noise is what would have gotten me noticed, but as D.D. said noises from garages are hardly unusual, it could have been a dryer, a HVAC unit, or anything similar.

I guess it's just a scare when you do everything in your power to avoid any police attention whatsoever and then you find them standing on your door with the clear sound of large fans ventilating behind them.

Ah well, as I said, I suspect if they were suspicious they would have searched then and there.

Wife and kids aren't such an issue in NZ like in the U.S. I mean they would be subjected to the search but that's about it, you don't loose your kids in NZ unless the cops really fear for their safety, which no one ever could with my boys. Wife has been through our last search several years ago, she wasn't too phased by it, probably more pissed than anything.

So they didn't say a thing to you after you showed up?

Not what they were even looking for? That does sound a little suspicious.(but I don't know the laws there in NZ,NZ beautiful place)

Did they make you do a walk through to let the detectives see what you look like. ( had that happen to me about a bomb they found on their door step)

I think if nothing was said, your not the one their looking for BUT I would quietly go and ask what's up and that it scared your wife and your just trying to settle her nerves.. This would just look like you were just trying to understand why they showed up.

The best of luck to you:tiphat:

my wife to get me to ring them and left. When I went down to the station they didn't say anything.

You should take this opportunity to tighten up your game. The noise is pretty easy to solve. It sounds like your tent is pretty easily discovered. That would make me nervous. A couple years ago I had EMT and police in my house when an elderly relative slipped and broke her hip. I was never really nervous because I had everything well ordered.

mechanical noise coming from a garage would not be suspicious in most cases.

and there was no smell.

i use, wool to quiet my fan. works pretty good.

but anyhow, them just asking your wife to call you to talk to them.

well what was that about? and they looked normal to you while talking to them? just the normal cop face?

i think you are ok though.

Garages are places where you can have all the arcane whirring machinery, you got lucky mate, the safer you are the more the chance of getting caught by unexpected visitors nut getting away with it when you shouldn't.

As long as they don't assume it's a meth lab and come back later with SWAT I'd say you're in the clear.

If it was me I don't think I could handle the risks of getting caught while having young kids, to many sources of worry! :p

Sounds as though she's got more mettle than I. I know that fear, believe it or not (California), but agree with the others about your wife's input and all. However, it does seem to me that *if* they were going to get you or do something about this, they would have and so the danger has passed.

Get a fan speed control so you can throttle that fan back and kill most of the noise...might want to sit on the porch and just listen until you figure out what other thing the fan noise sounds like and if someone asks, you can call the noise that device - like a dryer or whatever it sounds like...

Sweat it out, Man!

her majestys police once stood 20 feet away from three big plants of mine while they discussed something or other. I watched them and sweated. they never saw the plants.

may you have MORE good luck!

Gidday everyone, yes indeed I need to build mufflers etc for my ventilation set up, and quieten it down, it's definitely my week spot, so to speak.

I am quietly certain they won't bother busting me now, as many have said, and I believe, if they were going to search it would have happened then and there.

My house never smells of pot, I am very careful about that.
Thanks for all the kind words.

Noise, odor or light from a grow-op should not be apparent from the front doorstep under any circumstances. As you have just found out you don't have control over who shows up on your doorstep. Sound is not a difficult problem to solve and you have many avenues available to do so.

Good luck!

I dont think the noise is cause for concern, but im confused about how the police view marijuana.I know you say your not worried about your wife and kids and im sure you know more about laws there than i do but... i just recently posted a thread on a lady in new zealand who had her child taken beacuse trace amounts of thc were found in the mothers breast milk. The police chief there associated this with "family violence and child abuse".
