Feminized Four Strain Test Run

For this test run, I'm going to run 4 different feminized strains together.

Here's the line up (5 seeds each get wet):

CMC - Cream Cheese(CSG)

PCR - Purple Cheddar(CSG)

CJN - Chemy Jones(CSG)

CLO - California Orange S1s

The CLO are 10 year old seeds from JojoRizzo. They are S1s of Aleric's cut. Pretty ledgendary - I thought they would fit in nice with a triple hit of awesome CSG dankness. I hope to see the tell tale double serrated leaves on these.

I got 100% germination within 48 hours. They were then transplanted to 32 oz beer cups and put in my germination station.

24 hours later we have 20/20 through the dirt.

I will take the 18 best individuals to bloom. Talk about a mixed grow! Should be interesting.

I'm here for the show, front row ! This should be fun to watch, I enjoy watching your grow logs... How do you keep up with so many projects ? Good luck with these.
Peace, HJ.

I love what I do. I enjoy sharing. Logistical strategic planning and design was my career before disability knocked me out of it. So this hobby helps me ease that loss. The hobby also helps lift me out of the chair every day to attend to chores. So sharing here is small payback. As a bonus, I get little bits of joy if I can help others on their road to success.

Continue Enjoying :)

and thanx!

Thanx for the hollas everyone.

And then there were 19

The weakest sprout of the group got et. So we are down one CLO. Everyone is looking nice - no weird mutant looks from anyone. Prolly gonna grow these out for a month or so before getting ready to take clones. I'd like to have a good idea of their vigor so I have a reasonable chance to figure out the canopy.

Since we will be looking at individuals, I will be skipping the top procedure. I want every one to have a chance for light - 18 heads instead of 36 will help. This also speeds up the throughput of my system - so these will hit the bloom room faster.

Off to the Cloner!

This seed test run is the first of a new format I'm trying. In the past, I would take multiple clones of each pheno, and then top to two heads and grow out rows of each phenotype. This allowed me to look at up to 6 phenotypes per run.

I've decided to enlarge the net. I will run 18 phenotypes at once. They will NOT be topped - this will allow for more variable heights of phenos.

This triples the amount of information, while decreasing thoughput time by a month - and even less time with femmed seeds.

The weak point is the cloning differences. Those that get behind - will always be behind. I'm almost 100% on my clones, and I will have to be that good all the time - since we are only taking a single clone of most phenos.

The risk of missing something slow, but still great is increased. The work load and the amount of information tracking will be higher, but the reward to look at so many at once in a reduced time period, makes the gamble worth it. The truth is - if an individual does not work in my systems and with my nutes, then it will prolly never become a runner anyways. Darwin is harsh - you can't keep a massive collection of problem plants to solve later.

I hope to work out the kinks of this new procedure in this test run, so that all my future seed runs can be as information packed as possible.

With that in mind, let me introduce to you my latest tracking document.

Phenotype Tracking Sheet:

Each sheet has slots for 3 individuals. All relevant data is collected on this one sheet - from germination to smoke test.

These sheets are designed to be cut up into 3 panels - to be used to start files on individuals that progress to the next stage.

With this level of detail, it should be simple to make most of the calculations needed for subsequent runs.

Beautiful plants about to get hacked up:

All the tops in the cloner:

I filled in the remaining spaces with secondary branches from a variety of phenos for backup, just in case some one doesn't root.

The Chemy Jones was the tallest, followed by California Orange, and then the Cream Cheese and Purple Cheddar. Just a bunch of pretty cuttings!

These should be ready for the bloom room in 3 weeks!

As always, your questions and comments are welcome.

In this case I just took the tops since I only need 1 good clone. In the past I topped the plants and grew them out to get multiple shoots to clone. The dirt moms now go to the archive shelf, while the clones will determine their ultimate fate in the bloom room.

Roots appear from 5 - 15 days depending on the strain(part of the data I will collect). I'm hoping these will be ready to bloom in 21 days. I have a little wiggle room in the schedule - but these need to be close.

It will be very interesting to see if the tops will show roots faster than a regular branch cutting. I belive that at this stage all the appical hormones from the tops will have some influence on the clones growth.

Day 1 Bloom Update

Cover Sheet:

Unit:

First Aid:

CLO Double Serrated:

PCR5:

The plants have perked after being planted yesterday.

On the cover sheet you can see how all of the individuals are identified by position. In addition, each plant has a "necklace tag". There will be too much invested in this run to lose a keeper to misidentification - hence the double ID.

Out of the 19 that started, only 2 failed to have enough developed roots to make it to the show. The empty spot was filled by a single top Galactic Grape. I'm always gathering info on that plant, and this run provided a chance to find out more.

The tallest plants are the Chemmy Joneses. In fact one caught the edge of the light and kinked in half - hence the the "traction shot". Trellis blocks are handy and I think the plant will make a full recovery. The CJNs are the only ones I'm concerned with being too tall. We will deal that problem as it comes.

If you look closely at the CLO shot, you can see the double serrated leaves trait associated with the Aleric cut California Orange from long, long ago. The trait came through on all the S1s - I hope the deeply intense orange taste came with it.

The most seductive and beautiful looking plants at this stage are the purple cheddars(PCR).

All of the plants have been shoot pruned to 7, unless they were too short. I don't want to cut on these much and encourage extra stretch. Being single topped, I will assess pruning on a plant by plant basis when the first level of trellis goes in around day 10.

This is my first run of this many individuals in a long time. If my plan succeeds, I expect all of my future test runs to done in a simular fashion. There is a lot of messing around, but triple the data flow in a third less time will make it worth it.

Day 7 Bloom Update

Unit:

Side:

Purple Cheddar:

Tall Chemmy Jones:

Data:

A lot of growth for the first 7 days. I've started pinching the Chemmy Jones, cause it looks to be huge. The bent plant in traction is still annoyed - I hope to nurse it to the end, even if I only get smoke test data.

I plan on pruning plants on a case by case basis. I don't want to cut on them too much and encourage more stretch. I also will prune to make sure shorter plants still get light.

As always, your comments and questions are welcome.

Day 14 Bloom Update

Unit:

Side:

Purple Cheddar:

Bud:

Data:

Lots of nice growth. I am waiting to prune for a couple more days - we still have a good 10 days of stretch. Every plant has decent light. I will probably trellis soon.

The plants have gotten very hungry in the last few days. They have received their last folair spray.

There are several pretty ladies in this group. This Purple Cheddar is beaming with beauty. She just radiates vigor as she bats her chunky leaves at you.

Chemmy Jones is towering above everyone in the back row. They may end up getting zig zagged.
