After lurking on the forums for a little while I decided I should finally try using all the help available.
I recently bought some cuttings and after 3 days, 9 of them are dead. I paid good money for the cuts so Im wondering if its something thats just accepted when buying new clones or get back onto the guy and ask for replacements? It seems like a no brainer to me but I not sure if theres some kind of growing etiquette Im supposed to follow?

How did you treat them after purchase. Did they look healthy, good white root system, any sign of spider mites.

They came in rockwool cubes and theyve gone straight into small pots of biobizz soil under a 125W Blue EcoLight. The cuts that have died are the ones that had the poorest roots with hardly any showing from the rockwool. Could the soil be too strong for them?

Possibly, but unlikely. But I'm assuming that you used the same soil with the ones that didn't die?

It's much more likely that the roots weren't sufficiently developed to support the plant, they may be responding to a drop in humidity, which would account for the one's with better root development surviving.

However, a lot more detail and a couple of photos would go a long way to helping. Also, as it's not a UK specific issue, you might get more feedback posting it in one of the grow forums.

You shouldn't be buying clones in the UK,, this isn't America !!

Tell the person that supplied you with the clones that they died and that you'd like some rooted clones. If they are worth their salt as a grower they will reimburse you with a fresh tray of clones.

Otherwise get a packet of seeds,, and learn how to make your own clones. We did this and ended up supplying our original supplier with better quality clones (and seeds .. lol) for much cheaper :D

Note: It is normal to pay for trays of clones (x10 plus) , but single clones are generally circulated in the UK for free,,, and then you can always clone them and make more clones.

Hope this helps

P.S whatever happened to "FREE THE WEED".. lol

Thing is, if the person sold you them as "rooted", they could argue that they were rooted when he sold you them. i.e the roots showing through the cubes.

Dont mean to stick up for him obviously but imo its easy to root the cuttings...ph water, prop, fluoro and 18 hours light, the trick is potting them up and growing them on. Depends on what you paid for I suppose.....A basic clone in a cube with roots should be cheap enough, but potted up into little pots and into a media and looking good still under feed, well that a whole other ball game...imo ofcourse.

Personally, if you know him well enough, give him a ring and explain what you fed them. He will probably know more about that strain and plant and may know something you dont about feed etc

DocLeaf is spot on the money "NEVER PAY FOR CLONES" from anyone. Once you have made friends with a few growers from the community they are mostly gifted free. Always send rooted clones to guarantee success. I cannot believe peeps sell stuff that they where probably given free in the first place :(

its all about risk. if you have the risk ofthe taking , rooting and making sure they are growing, keeping them for weeks, why should you not be compensated?
after all, the person who buys it i likely to make thousands out of it at todays prices.
i was always told that the going rate was £10 each, so i always said £5.

Never post specific methods. At least not publicly...

Make sure they will not be crushed.

Make sure they will not smell.

Make sure they are away from the edges of the box/container you send them in. Heat/Cold can mess em up fast.

Make sure the stems/roots will stay slightly damp.. but not sopping.

Use fast shipping/mail rates... 3-5 days being good. Longer times introduce more opportunities for issues.

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:
