I'll definitely look into this.. thanks for the advice!

Should I just save a few bucks and roll with a 2 band 440/660, then (since it will come with a switch)?

Guys are awesome.. thanks!

Sigh What part of this simple statement aren't you getting? 660 for mid-flower- harvest

R/B alone are FAR from ideal. Yes you will grow mj, but why not grow it right?

SHould have more than just the 2 my friend.. Medmaker420 is doing some serious testing.
General rule of thumb so far is something like this...Might be a little technical for some who are new to the wavelength thing but it's pretty straight forward. The hard part is figuring out how many of each one to use.

Purple......430-450nm
Blue........460-480nm
Green......500-550nm
Pink.........630-650nm
Red.........650-670nm
Far Red....730-750nm
Some actually put in a full spectrum white also
White......3000-6000K

Not that complicated, huh?

Anyway, might wanna join in on the show with Medmaker420 there and see where his research takes him.. From what I've seen, he is using an all blue spectrum so far for vegetating.
Oh yeah..saying that I forgot above to add in an ultra violet, something around the 350-380nm.. Once again, different schools of thought....
Wish I could be the one to say here's the magic bullet but whoever comes up with that magic bullet will patent that spectrum and have someone else count their money for them!!!!!!! LOL...I know...wishful thinking..

Good Luck

Sorry man, thought you meant that I should be able to control which was on at what time. Since I couldn't do that, I thought it might be better idea to go with 2 band since you can switch.

Again, thanks for the advice.

thanks, i will add those to the list ASAP and re-upload...

GP, concerning the Byssen unit I mentioned earlier and tested at 120 watts not 140 as advertised it appears there is more to that story than I thought at first when I recommended it to you for the list.

I think it actually does put out 140 but only when it's running cool enough; it now appears that if it's too hot then it actively lowers the current to bring it back into some preset level.

My cab was running about 24-25c when I tested it at first and it put out 120. On a hunch I unplugged it and left it off for 10 minutes (still hanging in my cab) then fired it up with the meter on it and it showed 136 watts for some time before dropping down to 120 again.

The only issue though is a lot of grow areas are going to be 24c from what I gather reading threads here so perhaps it's not going to really give any growers 140 unless they are running at room temps or maybe it's just my unit.

de145 once I get some kill a watt units here I will check the different models that I am running as well. I think bysen did good with how they setup their leds personally and they run MUCH COOLER than others tested ( so far at least ) but the actively lowering the current is new to me and something I want to read up on which I will go check out.

I am also going to surface temp test the panels from top to bottom as well and see how my temps compare with yours as well.

justwantedapdf - no worries about it, these common questions will continue to pop up but there is a ton of data especially from universities and fellow led growers that can be found however most are NOT done with marijuana but rather other plants. I do think marijuana grows similar to other plants but how it uses the wavelengths I think are totally different.

I can see using the 660s for example to stop a sativa from overgrowing a cabinet however it could hinder an indica if used to early so an on/off switch would be great as would other switches to turn on/off other spectrum as well. Anything is possible however the testing to get results isn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

vukman - thank you for the kind words and tossing some wavelength content for all to check out. You probably just made a ton of new to led researches get stuff on nm's for a LONG TIME lol. The research and what ifs behind them all is exhaustive at best.

I just want to grow the different wavelengths out and see what does what ( blind testing ) as I am not asking which wavelengths are in which led grow light panel I am testing. I don't want to bias the results due to reading/researching etc. Let the plants and the lights do their think and record them as I go.

guvoo pink IS a manly color lol

PetFlora agreed 2 band while possible isn't exact the best setup for flower and for veg for that matter.

I realized the err of my ways once vukman set me down the right path.. I was mistaking using 2 different kelvin of CFL's as a similar thing when comparing 2 band LED's - I had no idea it was so customizable. I've been reading about light spectrum for days now.. it's exhausting!

Currently trying to figure out how to grow in 19" vert.. wish me luck!

Finally picked some seeds though: Dinafem OG Kush and Blue Widow. Off we go...... :blowbubbles:

...actively alternating the current"......, Isn't that a the direct result of the diode's? That is their only function, heat. As the diodes cool, more current, - hotter, less current. Or am I on another path altogether...?

Let me clarify my 2 band statement as pertaining to R/B

Crees new CW/NW/WWs provide >90% of all 3 bands in one diode. 'WINNING' Hope to see someone build a DIY using NWs + ~ 10% 660s on a separate circuit/timer for flower stage

If I had the spare $$$ I would, plus I have adequate lighting for now

hey thanks for the information, but i already have 135 watts recorded in my spreadsheets for that unit. and i have it marked as confirmed with a kill-a-watt or multi-meter.

i would have to search for the post which i don't have time for right now... probably in my LED Mythbusting thread (see sig)...

how did you measure the wattage?

Real sorry for that DUMB mistake of mine - misread the killawatt as i'd
just bought it and was reading voltage. So i didn't get a super amped
Blackstar :-(
Cheers and apologies.

Really interesting thread and will prob inform people (like me) willing to switch to the led world.
I have checked on the pdf and could not find info about the vipar a200, if anyone has tried it, plz give some feedback

Cool link PetFlora! Their selection is limited to strip, but it's a good idea. I think they would do better if they expand their offerings to include wider chassis.

I dunno, rupert but I'm smelling more BS from Lumigrow marketing since the infusion of venture capital.

I decided to pick up 2 25x3w eShine LED lights to flank my ES330. I should have went with 2 165s :( Doesn't look like the Pro model helps with the footprint either.
