Worthwhile additives for smell\flavor?

^^^^^^ i have wondered about that . one time i didnt get unsulphered molassis and used it on this one strain and it was exceptional. didnt keep the strain so have no comparison. could of just been the strain tho. hmmmmm

You dont want to use sulphured molasses because it contains preservatives. Unsulphured molasses has plenty of sulfur and more vitamins and minerals.

3LB again:
Several grades and types of molasses are produced by sugar cane processing. First the plants are harvested and stripped of their leaves, and then the sugar cane is usually crushed or mashed to extract it’s sugary juice. Sugar manufacturing begins by boiling cane juice until it reaches the proper consistency, it is then processed to extract sugar. This first boiling and processing produces what is called first molasses, this has the highest sugar content of the molasses because relatively little sugar has been extracted from the juice. Green (unripe) sugar cane that has been treated with sulphur fumes during sugar extraction produces sulphured molasses. The juice of sun-ripened cane which has been clarified and concentrated produces unsulphured molasses. Another boiling and sugar extraction produces second molasses which has a slight bitter tinge to its taste.

Further rounds of processing and boiling yield dark colored blackstrap molasses, which is the most nutritionally valuable of the various types of molasses. It is commonly used as a sweetner in the manufacture of cattle and other animal feeds, and is even sold as a human health supplement. Any kind of molasses will work to provide benefit for soil and growing plants, but blackstrap molasses is the best choice because it contains the greatest concentration of sulfur, iron and micronutrients from the original cane material. Dry molasses is something different still. It’s not exactly just dried molasses either, it’s molasses sprayed on grain residue which acts as a “carrier”.

Sulphured molasses is made from young sugar cane. Sulphur dioxide, which acts as a preservative, is added during the sugar extraction process. Unsulphured molasses is made from mature sugar cane, which does not require treatment with sulphur. There are three grades of molasses: mild or Barbados, also known as first molasses; dark, or second molasses; and blackstrap. These grades may be sulphured or unsulphured.

To make molasses, the sugar cane plant is harvested and stripped of its leaves. Its juice is extracted from the canes, usually by crushing or mashing; it can also be removed by cutting. The juice is boiled to concentrate it, which promotes the crystallization of the sugar. The result of this first boiling and removal of the sugar crystals is first molasses, which has the highest sugar content because comparatively little sugar has been extracted from the source. Second molasses is created from a second boiling and sugar extraction, and has a slight bitter tinge to its taste.

The third boiling of the sugar syrup makes blackstrap molasses. The majority of sucrose from the original juice has been crystallized, but blackstrap molasses is still mostly sugar by calories. However, unlike refined sugars, it contains significant amounts of vitamins and minerals. Blackstrap molasses is a source of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron; one tablespoon provides up to 20% of the daily value of each of those nutrients. Blackstrap, often sold as a health supplement, is also used in the manufacture of cattle feed and for other industrial uses.

I dont like anything that changes the terpene profile of the genetics your growing. Like mentioned Molasses is the only thing needed.. I have tried a few of these products and there not worth the bottle there in IMO....

I've recently started using shit like 'Sugar in The Raw' since I cant find blackstrap molasses anywhere..

I also use Canna Boost in my organics. A little, not much. I like my results.

Besides that, Organic is the best you can do.

In all my runs I find organic cannabis is better off with taste.

Btw, can anybody recommend me a good citrus-y strain? I love that sour taste..

How much is Bud Candy? Anyway, I dont think molasses or bud candy should be used in hempy or a hydro set up anyway.

canna boost is the most expensive Cane sugar product I know of. It works but doesn't work any better then plain molasses's.....

Blackstrap should be at any regular grocery store, or especially the heady organic type grocery stores. Ask somebody who works there and they can help you find it.

Also, if by citrus you mean lemon then try headband. One of my favorite strains hands down. I had some in organic dirt and on exhale it was about like lemonade. About to run it again too. :yes:

NP. Unsulphured is for organics. I guess the sulphur oxide wont kill your plants... Ive just always been told to use the organic stuff.
Im not sure on its shelf life or anything though. I just do as Im told and when I dont I have problems.

Not really an "additive" but look into guanos. Since you're a hydro guy, maybe guano extracts/liquid guanos. Not sure how long they'd keep in a reservoir though. IME, things like Sweet and similar products change the taste/smell of your herb but not really enhance it. Molasses is really just a food source for beni's with a few added nutrients, not sold that it effects taste/smell. More so than anything else I've tried, guanos and teas enhance flavor profile without changing taste. Find a way to incorporate those into your nute schedule and the results might have you switching to full on organics.

I grew organic for many years, now I dont and will never go back,

I like things clean..... very clean.... like lick the floor clean.

Now if we were talking an outdoor grow, organic is really the only way to go :smile:

By the way, I have had people say that my "synthetic" smoke is the best "organic" smoke they ever had.... on many occasions and these arnt ur typical pot smokers...

ps, and the only additives I use are root excel (to week 3) and floralicious plus (which ironically is organic).
 
PeopleWish. what nutes u using? I grew hydro w botanicare for years. just did my first organic soil grow this summer. The taste and flavor were what ive always been looking for. would u rather eat a organic tomato from the farm down the road or a tomato grown by monsato w miracle grow? going organic has also saved me about 300 dollars a round.

Funny..I grew soil (with chems), ebb and flo, RWDC, DWC..etc for years and I started growing organically and now I will never leave organics.......

You know how many times I have heard something similar to that? If I had a penny!!!

BTW if your growing medicinal... Organic is the way to grow...

Unsulphered molasses only because sulphered will kill your beneficials in the soil....
