Seeking Advice Planning First Vertical Setup

I

Inspired333

Hey everyone.

So I've read "so you're planning going vert" and "vertical growing 101" threads.

I'm planning a vertical tent grow and I need advice on spacing/tent sizing.

I'm posting a crude MS Paint drawing of just some ideas:

Using 600watt lighting.

1) an 8 x 4 with 4 plants in a diamond pattern (like two conjoined triangles)
2) a 5 x 10 with 4 plants in a diamond pattern (like two conjoined triangles)
3 a) a 5 x 5 with 3 plants equally spaced around the bulb in a triangle
3 b) two 5 x 5 tents setup the same as the one in 3a, possibly connected and close.

So the one thing I'm worrying or pondering about is the width of the tent(s). With vertical growing - I have to consider width or horizontal space; the distance from the tent wall to the plant, the distance from that plant to the light and/or the next plant or wall.

Eg: If I have a tent thats 5' wide; The Bulb is in the center of the tent/triangle pattern so that halves the width or distance of the tent to just under half of the width of 5' or 60" - that's only 30" !! We'll call it 28" considering the bulb width. Lets say the 600 watt bulb has to be at least 8" away from plant (between 8" to 18" away), so I'll say 12" (is that conservative enough?)
So from that ~28" from bulb to tent wall, subtract 12" leaving only 16" for the plant width -- :O
That doesn't even leave any space between the tent wall and the plant.

Are my calculations accurate and more importantly reasonable. I know people do vert grows in 4 foot widths but man, I don't get it logistically I'm worrying is all. I can't do a ton of smaller plants due to legal plant numbers, so they have to be on the larger side.

Anyway,
Any help, suggestions, criticism is very much welcome and appreciated guys. If you see something terrible with my thoughts or just a better way to fit things in, gain space or whatever, please comment.
I'll be doing some form of undercurrent or RDWC.

Thanks!

Here's the pic, sorry. Couldn't figure out how to post without having to upload to a hosting site first.
PS - why is there no "edit post" function, I don't see one.

I Like plan 3. That is like my setup. But I think with 600W you can put 4 seed plants round one bulb perhaps 5 or 6 depending on the number of branches you want to produce and if you want to use clones. I bet you can put a much higher number of clones round one 600W bulb.

Hushem - Hey man, thanks for the input. Do you mean one 5 x 5 tent? I suppose two of them is the same as one of them for the most part, haha.
As for more plants around the bulb; yea I agree. But I have to keep numbers down (and size(s) "up" I guess).

What is your setup?

BTW I was talking to the local grow store guy. I think the double 5x5, and the single 5x10 tents each have their own advantages.
But a 5x5 should easily take 1000 much less a 600 watt :) horizontally/footprint wise anyway. It's just the width due to hanging bulb vertically that had me worried. I'd say it'll be fine though.

Still open to input from anybody though.

dont know how long you plan on vegging or what strain, myself i would put 2 600 watters stacked and four plants on vert screens around them in a 5x5 tent, this utilizes all the light produced and wont over crowd each plant , check icabod cranes thred, he uses smaller screens than i do but still gets killer results

as i said, if you stack two 600 's and do 4 bigger plants your going to get a better yield in a 5x5 tent, wouldent waste the time with a 250w

Joesy If I get a bigger bulb i'll be spotted. From reliable source I got the knowledge that a 400W bulb could be spotted but not the 250W.

I am using isolation on the outside walls of the tent to mask my setup.

i run 4 plants around a single 600w and i feel like its not enough.
3 per light i just cant see being worth it unless you have a fancy curved screen to tie onto

and the other 2 options you drew have 2 lights with no plants in between them, which makes no sense to me at all. if you want a max of 4 plants with 2 lights then stack them as suggested earlier, but putting them next to each other with 4 plants around the pair i cant see being a good idea.

you have to do what you have to do,understand totaly. i have read there is some kind of film that blocks the lights heat footprint but dont know how it works

Are you saying that a 400 will show up on thermal even if temperatures are controlled and you vent internally to another part of your house?

I do not have a good answers to that. I heard of someone using one 400W in a garage (outside) was growing most likelly in a tent being spotted via as you mentioned on a thermal monitoring device.

Called anti detection foil. If it heats up it'll show anyway.
