First soil mix

This is my first attempt at coming up with my own soil recipe. Dank.frank was kind enough to pass on a recipe that works and I will be using. But I also want to experiment a little bit and see what I can come up with. Any comments good and bad would be appreciated

Smooths soil mix #1

2 bags Roots 707 (3 cu. ft./bag)
1 bail Pro-mix BX
1 bag EWC 15-20lbs.
4 cups Blood Meal
2 cups Bone Meal
2 cups High P Guano
4 cups Dolomite
1/2 cup Azomite/Trace Minerals
1/2 cup kelp meal

No damn given.

You're going to have about 20 cubic feet of mix if those are the big bales.
10 cups powdered dolomite lime
10 cups blood meal
20 cups bone meal
10 cups kelp meal
3 30 pound bags worm castings
6 cubic feet perlite
You don't need the guano but keep it in case you need to supplement. Make tea out of it if necessary.

Good point Burnone. Not sure which size bail it is. I'll have to check it out tomorrow when I head to the store.
Thanks alot for the input on amounts.
Seems I was pretty far off lol
Guess I'm attempting to make a modified version of phillthy's mix...

All the bails of pro-mix im seeing online are 3.8 cu. ft.
So 2 bags of 707 at 3 cu. ft. Per bag would be 6 cu. ft. Plus the pro-mix at 3.8 cu.ft. Would put me at just under 10 cu.ft. If my calculations are correct.

Compressed...a bail of promix is about 40g expanded or 5.5 cu ft. roughly....
A bag of FFOF is 1.5 cu ft - so keeping ratios right it would only be 1 bag 707 per bale....

1 bag EWC
5 gal bucket chunky perlite

And you get roughly the same 65+/- gal as Phillthy would.

Not sure how "hot" the 707 is, but has ewc, fish bone, guano, soybean, feather, kelp in it...

I'd go with:

2c seabird guano (if pellets, 1c if powdered)
2c bone
2c blood
1.5c dolo
1c kelp
1c azomite

But it is speculation not knowing the ratios of amendments added to that 707 mix...

I am running the 707 right now and it isn't too hot at all, I can do seed runs in it and it is actually pretty weak overall which is PERFECT for adding your amendments to it.

I thought I would toss that in as this was my first time with 707 myself and was worried about the strength but according to the description it is perfect for making soil with.

Went to the store today and grabbed these items:
1 bag 707
1 bail pro-mix HP (didn't have bx)
1 bag vermiworm EWC
Dolomite lime
Trace minerals

They didn't have any kelp meal so I purchased some maxicrop. Was wondering if that would work in place of it or If i should just use it during watering?

Already had bone meal and blood meal plus some high p guano.

And got my orange crush cuts:)
Anything you all think I should add or change would be appreciated.

^ find that kelp meal. order it if you have to but a nursery or hydro store should have it.

u got time while your soil is cooking to get it and throw it in. dont substitue with the maxixrop bottle. you need it in your soil mix. its one of the most important amendments.

Find the kelp meal for certain....I'd agree.

With no seabird....you could add 1.5 cups of epsoma "plant tone" from home depot + a 1/2c high P guano. ;)

Seems the 707 is not as heavily ammended as FFOF, thus the suggestion of additional feed via SBG or plant tone + guano.

kelp in the dirt for sure. there are a host of other amendments that would be great to work in over time. diatomaceous earth, greensand, cottonseed, neem, crab shell, rock phosphate and alfalfa meals, the list goes on and on. the espoma tone products work great in a pinch. so do other organic all in ones like peace of mind fruit and flower.

Cottonseed is a bit acidic (low pH)....much better for bluberries than cannabis. fwiw

Wow thanks for all the great responses guys!!
So I guess I need to hunt down some kelp meal:)
The maxicrop i got is a dry powder not liquid if that matters at all.

I did add a little bit of roots uprising foundation which has lots of good stuff in it including rock phosphate and a few other goodies. And I did see some of that happy frog fruit and flower. Might be a good thing to have around just in case it is ever needed.

I'm going to start looking for kelp meal online and see what I can find locally with a few calls.
Any specific brands I should look for that would be considered better than the others?

off the cuff .. but what is the difference between kelp meal and alfalfa... just curious??
In terms of elements there is very little difference. Some old timers call alfalfa 'field kelp' - where the huge differences come into play are in the compounds (Secondary Metabolites) that all plants produce. In the case of brown kelp meal there is one compound, specifically, (Alginic acid) that is unique to that species, i.e. it does not exist in green or red kelp (marine algae). Kelp produces over 380 compounds.

Alfalfa also produces compounds that are equally important and completely different in function and benefit. This plant brings over 340 compounds to the party. Both plant materials are the rawest that you can source - minimum processing resulting in more compounds remaining intact and available.

BTW: you don't want to use cottonseed meal irrespective of any 'pH issues' - it's one of the most heavily sprayed crops in the USA. It's pure garbage.

Fuck GMO crops. Why do they feel the need to modify these things. I get the fact that they are just lazy and would rather not put in the work to prevent pests etc... What a fucking joke... And then they end up creating more complicated problems that could have all been avoided by just putting in a little extra work at the beginning of the crop.
