really that should be the quote... grow down low...3 yrs ago i started reading this thread from front to back, its something i continue to this day. without toms contribution to this thread i would have been lost...now its three years later and with a little help from a good neighbor, i have gotten to where we are at now...started with 2' deep 3' wide 25' long rows with a solid grape like trellis.

it grew great meds. the tposts in the front are three feet high in the first pic. it took alot of time $$$ and effort, but the only thing i kept was the trellis, just moved it up two feet higher. its all relative. i now have between 300-350 gal of soil per,in 4'x5'x2.5' boxes, and i was actually worried because we planted late just before july. but we had great starts and good hearts.
this is mid/late july

heres some 200gal smarts same time

heres the boxes mid/late aug

those are 8'+ bamboo poles

so when it comes to this thread i have learned from experience, you gotta drop the ego...stfu...and just read, participate, and learn as much as you can. sure we all tweak it a little our own way, but the last two pics show 4'x4'x2' boxes filled with toms basic soil recipe from the first pages of the thread. ive never been sorry i used it.
the plants are untopped one 4' diameter cage and branches are pulled through the cage early in veg accordingly. they naturally form the globe shape.i started at the 1# threshhold, now i think ill do a couple 4+'s...next year ill get in three weeks earlier first week of june, and i think ill have reached the "threshold" of my containers...
because of my legal issues i havent posted much in the last two yrs, as ive been paranoid as fk!...lol...but this here knowledge is what has helped see me through those very issues...

thanks so much to tom, tgold, vegnout, butte, phil, root, and anyone who i missed ,who actively or inactively contributes to the growth of this forum...and thank you to anyone who has the balls to sit here , debate, study, learn, and progress. regardless of where/who you are. thank you for helping us as tom said,"make oxygen"... respect folks... jdkronyk

More than a decade after overgrow, the question comes up even within the minds of the guys at the top. But that quote right there, is sitting comfortably atop the hill, and there it will remain. The biggest plants have the biggest batteries, period - not foo-foo juice or secret recipes, not topping techniques, not any-other-godamn thing, you build a plant from down low.

I want to pick a nit...just cause I like to argue.

Agree with from the ground up. Kinda agree with no foo foo juice or secret recipe. But also kinda disagree...I am an Albrecht fan. I really believe in 65-70% Ca cation saturation and a sap pH close to 6.4.

No real magic cause there are a million ways to get there. But getting there improves pest and mold pressure exponentially and maximizes growth depending on how much N is available.

The chicken shit formula on page one worked out to 70% Ca saturation and just under that 6.4 sap pH for me.

Otherwise no argument here. O2 properly controlled is also key.

First off much respect and love to all the people dropping knowledge for others to learn from on this thread.
I just wanted to try my luck and see if anyone can anyone help me out with a powdery mildew problem outdoors. I been using dehumidafiers fans and sprays for organic gardening when the problem appeared but it seems to only slow it down not stop it. Im a completely organic farmer so I'm not down for any weird sprays but i heard from a friend that it would be chill to use a lil bit of peroxide and water on a sponge to wipe the spots of powder off the leaves. Does anyone know how well that works or if it will harm my plants? I was also wondering if the fans could possibly be passing the mold to other plants?

Bundles, pop over and see us in the organics subforum. There are some bright minds there who are very very familiar with PM problems. Clackamas over there uses a "mint family" foliar spray I think; rosemary and lavender make up the main ingredients. He deals with PNW pm, he's a good dude to ask.

Thanks to whoever fixed whatever was wrong with Sierra Organics' pictures!

How are those 2-bys staying up? Are they planted in the ground?
