Nice setup VP. I have a couple questions on the electrical. Did the inspector allow stranded 14awg to be wirenutted to solid copper 14awg. It is permitted, but is frowned upon by the 3 electrical inspectors I've worked with. They prefer to see hardwired 14awg soow from the flip relay screw terminals to the mogul/junction box. Some of these IEs can be picky, but they see it as business that is income based, not a home theatre system being install, but a profit making venture, so why not be like Mike Holmes....lol

It looks like you're using 1 flip relay for 2 ballasts and 4 lights, not sure, but that's how it looks. Did your inspector permit that or overlook. The electrical inspectors I've worked with don't permit that, especially with flip relays.

Are there smoke, fire, and heat sensors wired in to provide emergency power off. It isn't mandatory, but a welcome feature for IE. I have a couple pics of some work I've done, do you mind if I post here VP.

I have to be honest, I have no idea what the inspector looked at or did, but he did come and it did pass. He was there for about 8 min.

Your setups are badass.

I see you have some rooms with horizontal reflectors, some with bare bulbs, and others with vertical reflectors. Which setup do you find gives you the best yield in the end? Also, what do you see as the advantages and disadvantages to each in such large operations?

Just wanted to ask why some of the panels have several Aube timers alongside the PLCs. Awesome work man!


Thanx. I used two Aube timers, they rule, because the customer wanted to be able to have two seperate controllers in the panel, so 16 ballasts on one time and 16 ballasts on the other timer.

This 200A three-phase panel was built for 32 x 1000W ballasts. A few extra 120V receptacles were added. Two extra 60A/240V breakers were installed to power two AC units and there are six extra 15/120V breakers to run power to circuits/receptacles in the growroom. This panel powers and controls everything.

Only have a few pics of this installation. The three 500A disconnects were for a 250 lighter, I had to do all the work myself, no other sparkies on site.

There were five x 200A panels for 20 ballasts each and five x 40 light flips.

These three cans supplied all the power for the 250 lights. The grid then fed power to the three 500A disconnects. There was a total of 12 AC units, all mounted about 10 feet high in a plenum. It was much better to have the AC units elevated, then to install a ton of ductwork.
