Molasses

I have been feeding my flowering plants molasses for more than a year. I have yet to hear a bad word about them. I wonder.
People claim they impart a sweetness to the smoke. Lotsa things are said and resaid on the web until they become the truth. This ones a doozy. Molasses (and Agave syrup, maple ..,) all contain sugar. Sugar burns easily. Any good cook knows that if you burn something (usually containing some type of sugar) you should throw it out and start over. Sugar imparts a bitter burnt taste you usually dont want. No doubt it (they) impart a sweet odor but do they truly promote the taste.
Does Anybody out there really know?

I have understood that molasses feed the microorganisms in the soil not the plant itself.

This in turn makes more nutrients available in the soil and should lead to better growth.

Me too. And I want to believe it.

:woohoo:
Better growth leads to ... bigger buds? sweeter smoke?? more growth?

I want to believe it, I just want to know.:thank you:

Why don't you do a Google Scholar search on plant uptake sugar and extrapolate from there?

Your correct except the plants do utilize the carbs...which helps with resin production. Molasses...the type to use is Unsulfured Blackstrap Molasses. UBM will help your medium by feeding the good microbes. It is also a P booster, which plumps your buds. Your plants love and use the carbs. I do know it helps the final taste as well...but not sure if it is the carbs that get stored in the plants tissues...or because it helps your roots uptake nutes more efficiently which equals a healthier plant, thus unlocking the true potential and/or taste of the flower.

I've always used molasses. Can't say I saw any difference with or without it but my grows are always short usually no veg, I'd imagine in longer 4-8 week veg cycles it would build bigger bacterial cultures in the dirt. I always used Nutriliufe Heavy Weight. Probably pay more for the brand name but its still super cheap compared to repackaged overpriced dry/wet dextrose and every LHS has it.

I also found this

"Molasses is also an excellent chelating agent, which means that it can help convert some chemical nutrients into a form that's easily available for organisms and plants to use"

http://www.weekendgardener.net/organic-fertilizer/molasses-050805.htm

Look for anything in the chelating form not only for your plants but also for yourself this is easier for the plant and you to injest. This is a tip try to take the molasses yourself 1 sp in a glass of water, the molasses has an amazing amount of vit and minerals in no time you should notice a difference. This is the good stuff they take out of sugar...headband 707:dance013:

You dilute your molasses down in water? I just eat it right off the spoon. :D

is it true that excessive molasses can burn plants? because i think it was a combination of the molasses and beastie bloomz that burnt a strong plant i had.

don't know about it burning the plants, but it can suffocate the root system. that's why you should apply it lightly and wait for it to be consumed.
