let's talk about colors and consistencies on solvent extracts

there are lots of different methods that we are all using, and a wide variety of products as the starting materials. there is just as much variation in the end product too.

it's obvious that the terpenoid profiles and effect / potency will be specific to different things, but what we are here to discuss is the differences in color and consistency of concentrates.

in my own experiences, i've seen my concentrates come out in consistencies ranging from maple syrup all the way to dry hard crumbles that can barely be forced to stay on a dabbing tool. i've seen colors ranging from dark chocolate brown to bright blonde as pure as the driven snow.

what is interesting to me is i feel like my variations have been based on starting materials rather than methods. all my extractions are done with butane, using various methods. but no matter how i vary my methods, my coloration and consistency remain about the same for a given batch of starting material!

this goes against what a lot of people think - it is often said that you can do X or Y thing to get the material to do what you want.

discuss!

heat makes it darker

different strains will give you different colors

old product compared to new product makes a difference

a wet product will look 1000 times different when spread thin and dried fully

sativas tend to be lighter/golder in my experience. Also the more red/purple it is more potency it seems to have

was thinking about this again today. i want to take a good variety of samples of stuff that is always stubbornly oily for me and pit it against a variety of samples that consistently turn into crumbly angel sparkles. compare their cannabinoids and terpenes and try to find a common difference amongst the goos and the crumbles to see if any of them have a role.

intersesting, will have to pay attention to that.

for sure though, a sativa taken early will be very light yellow in the extract, but the same plant mature will give a much darker oil. that seems to be related to what you are saying.

I've noticed fresh frozen extracts are lighter than extracts taken from the same plant dried.

Decarboxylation darkens the oil.

Decarboxylation lowers the viscosity of the oil.

Different extraction processes from the same material, produce different colors and consistency.

Over extracting darkens the oil.

I'll be watching your experiments with bait on my breath to learn what else.

been running a few more various strains some more notes

The high cbd oil ive been working has a very odd Constancy, you can get it 90% amber but its still flexible. It also is a sourd offspring and it has an orange oil much like the ecsd and other sourd cuts I've run. They all seem to have some sort of grapefruit aftertaste too.
thats all i got for now.
