i'm starting this thread to document my outdoor crop for this summer.

i'll begin with the soil, my first ever from-scratch mix. heady's own recipe. we'll see how it pans out over the next few months.

HEADY'S SOIL RECIPE:

for 1 yard of soil:

BASE:
8.2 cubic feet Alaska peat
2.25 cubic feet locally produced EWC
1.5 cubic feet biodynamic dairy cow compost
50 lbs CARQUEST #8033 calcined DE
6 cubic feet crushed black lava rock (3/8" size)

AMENDMENTS:

14 cups crab meal
12 lbs neem seed meal

5 cups oyster shell
5 cups dolomite lime
5 cups soft rock phosphate

40 lbs powdered azomite
14 cups greensand

7.5 cups kelp meal
14 cups seabird guano
7 cups fish meal
14 cups alfalfa meal

this mix is intended for reuse, so i've incorporated some slower amendments along with what i'll need for my first crop.

...subbed. Using Airpots or similar? I like the slow release amendments.

No carbon?

Hell yeah, looking good so far, I cannot wait to get back outside growing. The wagon is the shit!

i f'n love that wagon.

:party:At Heady's place! Nice soil mix in the works!

Looks great! Best of luck!

thanks guys!

i've got twenty #10 smart pots with handles. couldn't snap a picture because it was dark by the time i filled em all up.

it was super awesome how well calculated it was though. i got to the 20th pot, funneled in the last bit of soil on the tarp, and finished at the exact same level as the other 19.

i know schwagg u and me both! pray to the sun gods! :peacock:

Dieselrella sounds great, as does Peacemaker, Thai Stick, and Blue Sat 2.2. Maybe throw in the Blue Kush

Lookin' great HB. I just know, with your conscientious style of plant care, you're gonna rock it.

If I've understood the evolution of our cab correctly your moving away from the sativa-doms,no? So that is what I'd put outdoors. Those thais and sk x hazes should really benefit from growing outdoors. Maybe the pr x affie too? Great foundation for a new outdoor seedline,IMO. One of the blue indicas would also be on my shortlist...need some indica to put ya down after all that sat smoke.B.Sat or BKGK could be great males to knock up your sativa girls...

My two cents,it'll be awesome whatever you do.

I'd say you might want to avoid the O haze x Skunk #1, if you get a haze leaning one, they're gonna start late, and finish around xmas. Then again, if you have the weather to do so, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the results.

Hard to miss with any of your stuff. I really wanted dank.frank's CB x DB. I vote for that.

i'm definitely running some of frank's gear. i was thinking about the FBPK since it's got that ken's father GDP cut in its parentage, and that is classic cali outdoor goodness right there if it'll finish before november.

the cb x db might do well outdoors too, but i'm nervous about all the finicky blueberry genetics i'll have in the garden, and i question my newb ability to keep them happy.

Thai stick sativa!!!

i'm planning at least one pot for these! i think some very interesting beans could come out of crosses with this line.

Dieselrella sounds great, as does Peacemaker, Thai Stick, and Blue Sat 2.2. Maybe throw in the Blue Kush

the dieselrella grew really well for me last year. i have a very sad looking reveg from the best plant last summer, but i might be able to take three usable cuts from it. still got 6 seeds to explore as well. i might give her a couple pots.

i'm gonna skip peacemaker.

blue sat 2.2 i feel like i should grow out just for the colors. that will make my buddy very happy. he loves purple weed even if it rarely scratches the surface of his massive tolerance.

i'll definitely grow out the blue kush/blush/sour bmr. free BOG genetics need to be taken advantage of. also i found some nice examples of outdoor blush plants on his forum.

i'm thinking about running a bunch of his sour bubbles as well. i have 10 beans of sb. the phoenix has an outstanding thread in the BOG forum and has lots of positive experience growing it outdoors. I think it finishes quick enough that i'll beat the november rain and fog. even if it doesn't, i'll get cuts outta them and run them indoors.

the SB seems like exactly the high profile that my buddy is seeking for his chronic pain. plus those bud shots i see everywhere and the description of flavor makes me want it :D

the biggest issue with SB is the stink factor. we have a very private balcony now enhanced with 6 foot cedar fencing, but 6 SB plants could smell up the whole block by october :D

Lookin' great HB. I just know, with your conscientious style of plant care, you're gonna rock it.

thanks eyes. ya i guess in a way that's very accurate. i moved away from that mediocre (yet easy to grow) cut of widow i got at a local dispensary, and this run i'm growing out some beans that some of my friends here at IC have been so kind to share with me.

however, the cab is for my personal stash, but the balcony is to supply my needs as well as my friend's.

i like a sativa dom hybrid for my daytime smoke to medicate against my anxiety and depression, but he prefers a narcotic indica to help him deal with chronic aches and pains.

my 4 pr x a plants in the cab right now had me under the impression they were favoring the affie genes due to their short stature and relatively slow veg, but now that they are flowering slowly as well, i'm thinking they may have more of the PR mother in there than i previously believed. i would really love a monster PR dominant plant in the outdoor garden this summer!

I'd say you might want to avoid the O haze x Skunk #1, if you get a haze leaning one, they're gonna start late, and finish around xmas. Then again, if you have the weather to do so, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the results.

ya i planted some of them last year and none seemed to be inclined to our climate. i actually think i'd prefer a super hazy 12-16 week-er. i'm predicting a moist november, but i think i'll be able to grow out some very quick finishers that will be done in october, and i could equally succeed with some long finishers that will not be too dense in november, then can finish at the end of dec or in january.

i'm not really worried about frost until maybe feb.

your going huge Heady,

mind if I tag along?

I ran into some issues with mold on my purple hazes outdoors, but they were in a greenhouse, and it was mid december... not horribly cold, but 90% humidity will take its toll on even the fluffiest of sativas. I imagine some of my problems were due to the low air circulation in the improvised greenhouse.
