IME the grow store guy is not there to sell you the simple solution to anything. even at way to grow in denver where they have blumats on the shelf the guys in there don't use them because they "heard they are a bitch to get dialed in" ........... they sell them but don't have the instruction manual in the store.

Ha!

Ha!

AFOM has just raised/lowered the bar again!

He's on run 3 of just pulling the stump, topdressing with some nutes-homemade rot-compost (we call it rot, compost just sounds overly dignified), and NOT DISTURBING THE BLUMAT!:dance013:

He gets 3.5 -4.5 with 2x1000 10x10 vertical tent. Essentially a scaled up version of my old vertical tent, HERE
He is still dialing it in, hasn't had the perfect run, yet.:blowbubbles:

I am still pulling them out, but he is in #5 pots and I am in #3s, less room to work with. I think I will move up to 5s as of late I have been working with larger plants, and some are a bit under nuted this run.

I've recently become a solid convert to no/minimum till practice. This will be my 2nd run, and I ain't going back to dumping mixing, re-potting, etc. etc. etc. It is a waste of time and energy.
Plants seem to grow as well or better, and makes life so much easier!

Hate to say it but I just had a negative experience with waytogrow.net. Guy on the phone out right lied to me about my order and stage of processing. Their system will take your money as soon as you order, if they have the product or not. If something is back ordered your order will not ship until they get the back order. But they do not tell you or give you the option to cancel the order, or ship what they do have and ship the back order when they get it. I was told a load of $#!^, what was back ordered was just an impulse buy, I didn't need it. Still waiting on my 3mm silicone tube to set up my system. I will not use them again. If you do it would be best to call in the order and make sure what you want is in stock.

I had a hell of a time with Way to Grow. They sent the material to the wrong address, charged me almost $20 for shipping and it cost less than $3 to reship it, and their system showed material in stock when it wasn't. The backorder took forever. I much prefer Planet Earth.

Airstones and blumats scares me, but I have no experience with using a res on these things.

Sunny, that's great news about the no-till. Thanks for sharing that. I just chop off at the base and cover with a bit of soil. If there's a new young root system from the next MJ seedling or a companion plant, the microlife will not go dormant and will completely digest the old roots.

If you're growing without nutes in soil, that is.

I have two air stones in my reservoir which run with 7 to 3 gallons of nutes and I run the air stones constantly with out any problems and I'm on my 4th or 5th grow using this set up.

what to get

what to get

hey guys im looking to purchase some blumats, but 70 for a pack is a bit much for me,seeing as i dont need that many, i only have a 4 plant 2 gal grow.

I found a source for everything and i will be getting the maxis, my question is what else would i need along with these since im not purchasing a package. for example hose, fittings etc.

Thanks

I'm assuming the Maxis run on the same size 3mm tubing .. if so:

Elevated Reservoir
1/2" or 3/4" Tubing w/ appropriate bulkhead fitting to install in reservoir. (runs from res down to plants)
3/32" Tees from Kent Systems (stabs into above tubing near plant sites)
Ample 3mm line to run through blumat (from above tee to blumat)

Its all in this thread somewhere-- hope that helps.

Tagged in this is a massive thread i have to get back too over and over.... It's flippin huge!!

One way to get through large threads like this one quickly is to go to the first post and click on the authors name and select Filter Posts by and it will give just the authors posts. If you were doing it in a thread where someone else has contributed a lot you can filter by their posts and you get the author of the thread and that users posts. Hope this makes sense. :)

I think the maxis will be too big for 2 gallons. Check out the site from the post below, they sell individual blumats.

The thru-hull that comes in the kit? Or the tool to cut the hole?

Unless you go the custom route w/ 1/2" bulkhead/normal tubing/kent tees you'll need to buy more blumat thru-hulls.. or some other type of 8mm bulkhead fitting. You'll likely have to order this online unless you can find a similar thru-hull from HD or lowes that will fit the stock 8mm distribution tubing.

If you mean the tool to drive the hole I just use a regular drill bit for a thru-hull or a conical step bit for the larger bulkhead fitting (from harbor freight).

Here is link to blumat thru-hull.

$6/ea!!! and they bend really easy. Easy to break..hard to get tubing off of.
That is the benefit to going the kent tees/regular tubing/bulkhead.

I did not see the 2gal. part. Using the maxis for such a small pot is absolutely unnecessary, if not utterly wrong-counter productive.:noway:
Don't fuck with proven success.

Got it

Got it

Thanks guys, i got it figured out, ok now the reason i got the maxis is because i am running airpots which are actually 2.4 gal, it sounds small but the container is 12in tall and 10in wide, so ill be using one maxi per pot.

you can see the size difference in the pic, next to the gallon jug.

also the 3mm lines that come with the maxis are pretty long

i don't have a maxi sitting on the shelf that i can look at, but as i recall they are the exact same ceramic "carrot" and cap with a longer plastic tube in the middle. maybe they will work the same way as the standard blumats if you only push it into the soil at the same depth????

you get to be the official IC blumat guinea pig for a while ......... please tell us what you find out

nice pics by the way:tiphat:

I use the same pots the ones with the yellow bottoms?
and I have great success with the regular Blumats no need for the Max.
When using the regular Blumats your top of the soil will be dry except where the drip is so don't be deceived by this. You will still have
great root mass and plant size combining the Air pots an Blumat.
