What are you cleaning your glass with?

Of course the cheaper the better. I'm thinking iso but I heard oxyclean the other day.
So, what do you use?

I use isopropyl alcohol and rock salt, always have (ever since I heard about the method on OG 8yrs ago). Costs less than a buck per cleaning. I've even heard of someone here using white vinegar in place of alcohol on icmag.

Yep, iso and chunky salt is what I've been cleaning my small pipes with for years. Finally got a bong again and am curious. Iso would take a buck or two but oxyclean would be cheaper, meaning it would get cleaned more often.

Acetone mostly. My glass does not get very dirty... If you have some real dirty glass Acetone with salt will work very good..

91% iso and salt once a day. If there are any hard water stains or something similar a soak in simple green.

91% iso alcohol & Dawn dish washing detergent, cloudy hard water stains can be removed with CLR but then you have to flush & rinse vigorously.

EDIT:
I haven't seen a glass cleaning thread in the Den in a couple of years but up until that point every single newbie was coming in and starting one weekly.

I actually thought that it was the same person under different nics trolling the Den for kicks.......

And if you're cleaning something that is strictly for BHO, use 99% iso and skip the salt. Swish it around until the oil in the rig is loose and resting in the iso, then dump it into a pyrex and evaporate the iso. Scrape what is left and use it for edibles. It's fully decarbed so it's ready to go as is.

was wondering if that film was hard water or salt.......I use 91% alco0hol and empsom salt.....works great.....so simple green removes that film?

I've been trying to figure out what that film is for a while. I don't get it all the time, but there are times I empty the bong after a day and it covers the entire area where my water is. I also rinse with purified water to help cut back on the hard water.

I had some little granules of salt that were stuck to my bong once. I couldn't get them off no matter how hard I shook or how much I rinsed it out. After a weekend of being lazy and not cleaning it they left and never came back. Glass can be odd at times.

And yea I like simple green for that stuff, it is biodegradable, non-toxic, and won't harm your labels. I pour it in full strength after a salt and iso rinse so you can reuse the simple green and its not full of resin. Shake it around for 30 seconds and if the stains are still there let it rest, the bubbles help dissolve the stains. Come back to it later and check. The longest I've had to let it sit is overnight.

Rubbing alcohol and coarse salts, cant go wrong. Cheap, works amazing. My bub looks fresh out of the store every day. I usually let it sit under the tap with really hot water flowing through it for 5 minutes or so before cleaning, it seems to soften the resins and makes em come off easier.

91% Isoprophyl alcohol.

Thanks Funk. We can get 99% iso at the supermarket here so I do use that.

Yeah, I'm trying to stay away from those name brand(pricey) cleaners.

Acetone mostly. My glass does not get very dirty... If you have some real dirty glass Acetone with salt will work very good..
I assume I could find that.

Methylated spirits/isopropyl alcohol and brown rice. Just shake them together until clean.
I really like the brown rice addition.

Formula 420 works pretty well.
Trying to be cheap. Thanks though. +

Have used simple green and it works well. Most often though it is iso and salt. Peace GS
Thanks for chiming in.

That's twice for the simple green.
No hard water, I use RO water.

Still curious about sodium percarbonate /carbonate.

I have to chime in on the Oxiclean thing. I was wanting to clean a 10 inch steamroller which would have required a whole bottle of iso, so I thought, what the heck, give Oxiclean a try... I put the piece in a big ziplock with enuff water to cover it good, then put in a tbs of OC... 1 hour later, all the crud was off the glass... a little rinsing and drying and the ole roller was like brand new!.. I'll never use iso again...

Boiling water & baking soda is by far the most economical solution I've found thus far.

1. Baking Soda - More the Better
2. Remove rubber seals etc.
3. Soak glass in baking soda & boiling water solution for about 5mins until the resin breaks down. Any longer and it will begin to cool and stick again.
4. Rinse with hot water and repeat if necessary.
