Looks fantastic grouchy! Despite the limited size, it's a perfect example of the increased light coverage you get with training. Sign me up for the next grow.

I didn't get a chance to weigh the water cured bud before it went into the dugout. I bought a brand new dugout for water cured bud only to keep it from smelling. I filled it and have a little left over from the earlier trimming and the other buds just fattened right up where I took it away.

Here is what my dugout looks like with the pistol grip. The wood on mine is gray and blond, not some funky color like the pic.

I've been using dugouts.....since the 70s? Damn I'm old. Never seen the pistol grip, that's cool as hell. I used to take those snow skiing, hit a toke or three with each lift. Falling on the case was a bitch.

I went to college in the 80s. One fall night we got drunk and went to the football game. My drunk roomy too a shortcut and fell down a hill covered with juniper. The dugout slipped outta his pocket and we were too drunk to find it.

We looked for that fucker two or three different times with no luck. Right before spring semester ended, were we dry and sober (and jonesing) enough to find that sucker. Eight months of cold mountain winter didn't hurt the dugout or the reefer. Turns out it was made from teak and probable could have stayed there for years w/o rotting.

My last one I made out of a 1x2 and the spring of a ball point pen. I bought the bat though. I really am a cheap ass sometimes.

I weighed the bud from the second plant and it came in at 8 grams. I would guess I had 2 grams of water cured bud so I had a total weight of 20 grams give or take for the run. I really enjoyed the water cured bud and will probably make some more here shortly. It took the taste and smell right of it and was very stealthy smoke. I have been smoking the first plant as it cures because that is all that is available to me. I am trying to become completely self sustained and will not be buying anymore from "dealers"

I have started some new seeds now that I am back. I have two Lowryder Dwarf Mix F1 seeds that I made on a previous run. These are to be used for some quick replacement smoke while I veg a mother plant.

The other seed is a feminized G13 Gigabud. I will try and make this my mother plant to pull clones from. It was a freebie and I want to see what it will do. After I can get 3-4 good cuts I will put them under a single 42w bulb and see what I can get.

I had a dugout once... for less than 24 hours.. because the next day I got a possession charge while kayaking..

"That's a nifty little thing you got there, son.."

And dude I totally feel you on the whole providing bud for yourself... and not dealing with dealers.. that's my goal. No more wild goose chases for a $70 bag of bud..

Ouch! Sorry to hear that.

One is up and going and the other is struggling to break through the soil. I planted two more into a perlite/coco mix and I will try and update with some pics soon. The gigabud is just a little sprout right now and hopefully will start growing soon.

grouchy-

I have been searching and asking on this forum for a while on the construction details on a DIY Cool tube. I found threads on converting the security lights but none on fitting them to a hurricane glass tube.

Any help?!

Thanks

Yo Groucho my man ! Good to see U back in the ol´game ! Been away meself for a long while, but also back on track.
Been reading this whole thread 2day, got to think, you'd want a staggered flowering. How long flower time are the one's you have going atm ? Let's say 9 weeks. Start #1, wait 3 weeks, start #2, wait 3 weeks, start # 3 and you are about to harvest #1...wait 3 weeks and replace the 1st.....This way you can keep up a steady supply of smoke, and, if you start 12/12 at different height, say 2",3",4" and 5", you can find the "Sweet Spot", Dr.Bud-style.....
Whatever U do, I'll be lurking !!

Same old cab but a completely different story. The new system is set up for aquaponics (using fish poop to feed the plants). I will try and get some pics up soon so you can get a better picture. Here is a brief description of how it works.

In the old veg compartment I have installed a small fish tank which is piped into the new grow bed in the flower compartment. The piping is just a pvc "Solids Lifting Overflow" that picks the water and fish poop up off the bottom of the tank. The new growbed is made out of a 12 qt sterilite tub stacked into a 19 qt sterilite tub. The top tub is filled with hydroton and has a pvc standpipe with holes in it for a drain. It drains into the bottom container which houses the water pump that returns the water to the fish tank. It cycles at about 25 gallons per hour.

I am on my trial run with it and have used bag seeds to get it up and going. I have heard the first run is usually not very impressive until all the bacteria and nutrients get built up in the grow bed. It currently has 5 small fish in the tank and one night crawler in the grow bed.

The fish eat food that I give them and in turn make little strings of poop for me. The poop raises the ammonia levels in the water and bacteria turn the ammonia into nitrites. After that, another bacteria turns the nitrites into nitrates which the plants will eat. The night crawler in the grow bed eats the bacteria and poops out worm castings which the plants also love. This cycle is known as the Nitrogen Cycle and is how aquaponics works. Google it for more info.

My plants are currently being trained around a vertically mounted 42w cfl . I flipped over to 12/12 on April 20th and will see how it yields. I am not sure if the plants are male or female so my yield could swing depending on how many of the three turn out to be female.

After this run I will be doing a small seed run of some autoflowers I have. My goal is to have a fun hobby grow and get some personal smoke out of it.

Got some picture updates of how this thing is working.

This is the tank. It has four fish in it. It had five the last time I looked but one is now gone. He might have swam up the overflow tube and landed himself in the grow bed. The overflow is the white pvc in the back.It has a pipe tee on the top allowing it to pick up water and waste off the bottom of the tank. The black tube is coming from the water pump underneath the grow bed and brings water back into the tank.

picture.php

This is the flower chamber. The grow bed is a 12qt sterilite tub stacked inside a 19qt sterilite tub. It is filled with hydroton and has a standpipe drain going into the sump. The overflow from the fish tank is buried on the left side. It flows constantly but can be upgraded to flood and drain with the addition of a bell siphon instead of the standpipe. The sump tank below the grow bed houses just the water pump. If I upgrade to flood and drain the sump tank will absorb the flood water and will keep the fish tank level from changing.

The light is just a 42w cfl and the sex has not yet been determined for the plants. It is currently 9 days into flowering.

Put another 3 fish in the tank for a total of 7. Topped off the setup with some water from another tank full of nitrates. Adjusted the ph back down to 6.5 but I have been having a hard time keeping it down over the last week. I might switch from fish ph adjusters to hydro ph down and see if that helps. Still no signs of sex that I can see.

Wow grouchy,
this is seriously amazing...plants living of fish (natures nitrogen cycle imitated in a micro scale). Crazy :)...hope this works out fine. It's nearly kind of a "perpetuum mobile".
Is it your idea to try and scale it down, or have you seen this way anywhere.
I'll definitely be watching!

I have seen it on a bigger scale but sometimes you have to work with what you have for space. So far these have been my healthiest plants and I am looking forward to seeing this system take off.
