Heres my great great great grandpa on my mom's side. Christopher Columbus West. Don't know much about him except he apparently popped into existence out of nowhere, with one lady having spent 15 years trying to find out where he's from and his parents, with no luck. Born around 1830 in Alabama or North Carolina.

Does this guy look part-Indian to anyone? My mom has always heard we have a Cherokee ancestor in the West line, and this dude is pretty much the only guy it could possibly be. I don't know though, it's hard to tell from the pic. Apparently this part-Cherokee ancestor in our family has relatives who walked the Trail of Tears. This guy looks so much like the men in my mom's family it's scary. All have dark complexion, thick brown/black hair and eyes, same sharp eyes and facial shape as that guy, around the nose and cheeks. You can see by his eyebrows he has/had dark hair too.
It's really hard to tell when he's a white-haired old man, and that picture and all. GREAT pic, though!

We have the same problem on my dad's side. New Orleans, we can go back as far as like 1750 or something, to an orphan who stowed away on a ship from Italy. His name was Luigi, but we don't know what his real surname was, we think the nuns took his original village and made that the surname, an Americanized version of a common German surname (as I understand it). Of course, that's a dead end.

My oldest boy is autistic (don't have a specified disorder). It is not passed on like you're suggesting. It's a congenital disorder, not genetic. Tourette's very well may be genetic.

Certain forms of autism are most certainly genetic. I am autistic. I knew for my entire life from a young age that there was certain things about me that were not normal. It was only by coincidence I happened to read up on CAPD and realized holy fucking shit...thats what I have! My grandpa and his sons are the exact same way as me. It's inherited. Keep in mind there is about a hundred different types of "disorders" that all fall under the name "autism." Also keep in mind that today's doctors are just about clueless about knowing why autism actually exists and what its underlying causes are. I have my own theories based on my own experience, and I trust those a lot more highly than those of outsiders looking in. (Who try as they might, just dont understand.)

For those who don't like the thread.....fuck off. It's as simple as that. Maybe you should go trace out your own ancestry and find interesting things. Or maybe you'd find they were all assholes from the peanut gallery. Who knows...

Yea, so your autistic by your own diagnosis, or you have been evaluated by a medically qualified person? Many things are put under Autism Spectrum Disorder that can not be explained, and it is often times over diagnosed.

My younger brother has a dual diagnosis of Down Syndrome and autism, and the autism definitely hampered his development much more than the Down Syndrome has.

Anyway, I don't need to look back at my ancestry. Both of my parents come from generations of poor ass Italians and Germans who busted their fucking asses so the future generations (me) could have a better life. Now, here I am, about to graduate with my Bachelor in Architecture, just got accepted to Columbia for my Masters.

You should be living in a fucking a castle somewhere, shouldn't you dude? Sorry, I just feel this thread is some vain attempt to make yourself feel better, sorry if I am wrong.

Most "medically qualified persons" are fucking morons. That may seem like an outlandish statement until you realize I have an IQ somewhere north of 150. I can get all the information I need through Google, and more importantly, through my own experience of being me and who I am. If being a doctor was a career choice which interested me, rest assured....I would be in the top 1% of doctors.

Neurology and neural networks in general are definitely an interest of mine though. I spend a lot of time thinking, about how thinking works. Slowly but surely I'm figuring it out. One day I would like to build a functional artificial brain.

How can I say these simple statements of fact to explain to you why you're wrong, without you automatically assuming it's me bragging and trying to make myself look good?

I just wanted to share the good news with everyone that this red headed stepchild from the back woods of Alabama isn't crazy, or lazy, or any of the hundred other things that ignorant fucks have always automatically assumed about me. No, I'm happy to report that most of my ancestors knew what the hell they were doing after all. I was happy to discover this fascinating info and just wanted to share with someone besides the few parts of my broken family I still talk to.

Congratulations. I'm sure that job offers will find their way into your inbox just as frequently as they do into mine on a monthly basis, since I know architects (your future career) are just as much in demand as satellite communications engineers (my previous one.)

You should be living in a fucking a castle somewhere, shouldn't you dude?

Maybe it's because I'm wise enough to see that inhabiting a castle is not a good use of my resources right now (or ever, really), as I've been pouring literally everything I've got the past few years, physically and mentally into building assets rather than liabilities. Today and every day I'm racing against the clock to get to where I need to be in order to compete and win in the legalized cannabis market, the day it happens.

If I had the money to buy a castle, 90% of it would be taken up by the laboratory, garage, and grow room. I don't have any need or desire to live surrounded by meaningless luxury. I have an intense desire on the other hand to do productive things.

I don't mean to make you feel insecure or anything by trying to put off like I'm better than everyone. No, the one guy is right, there is probably royalty in just about everybody's bloodline if you trace it out. Regardless of history, the only thing that really matters is today and the future. As the red headed stepchild I didn't always used to be secure or confident, but I worked on myself and made myself better. My line is full of no-name men (such as me, today) who apparently rose from nothing to conquer some area of human interest, and by doing so built respect for themselves in respectful society.

In fact if you trace them far enough back, every single king or noble person started off the same way: as nobodys, who came from nowhere but did something great. Only through their hard work did they become someone notable. The same thing is possible today. Who says you or I wont be one of those men, in our own family tree a thousand years from now? I think that's the very definition of nobility right there.

Sorry, I just feel this thread is some vain attempt to make yourself feel better, sorry if I am wrong.

I was perfectly happy with myself as a person the day before I found all this out. If anything it has only helped me to understand things that I already knew. I spend a lot of time in self introspection not necessarily because I'm vain, but because there's value in it. "Know thyself." Also, because there is next to nothing else to do in this house. Light bill is $300 a month and I don't even own a TV. Funny how that works.

I'm a direct descendant from Robert The Bruce of Scotland,(so my mother tells me). She is a huge authority on history & ancestry. She's got hundreds of books & is in contact with some people in the UK.

For many years while growing up she would try to bend my ears about our family history, but I wasn't interested, nor could I appreciate these kinds of things in my wild & energetic youth. I used to be rude and ask her: "If we are royalty, how come we don't live in a castle in europe?" To make a long story short, she explained that wars among other clans, mass murders, & even an exodus to prevent our family from being wiped out.

So in closing, I definitely appreciate what my mother does, & history is a valuable teacher. But in truth; the days of royalty are numbered, and I would love to see the end of that in my lifetime.

Well if a man's home is his castle and all castles are the dwelling places of King's then are we not all royalty?

Look all royalty is is a title, royals are no better or worse then anyone else. They are not a seperate race, they are not a different speicies. To be a descendent of royalty means absolutely nothing other then someone in your family line slept with someone who had a title of nobilaty, that's it. The royals have always been known to be a promiscuos bunch and when they weren't busy fucking the commoners they were busy fucking each other. Unless you got the power and wealth of your royal ancesters there's really not much point in telling people of your relationship to royalty. Most people now a days don't think too highly of nobilaty so it's better to have people judge you for what you do rather then who you're related to.

Being American is basically saying all this is bullshit. I have absolutely no idea why anyone would brag about oppressive, inbred, genetics. To come from "royal" genetics seems to me to be something to be ashamed of, not proud.

Wait... so you're self-diagnosed? You're not properly diagnosed? There is a SLEW of brain tests that are done to Dx autism and its spectrum of disorders, pretty mind-boggling tests, but they do make a definitive Dx.

Being born with a condition is not the same thing as inherited, thus, the difference between congenital and genetic. My son was born autistic, my personal belief is that it was due to me being exposed to pure lead during my third trimester of pregnancy, but that's just my belief, it's not proven.

People like to blame vaccines for autism. How did I instinctively know my son was autistic before a single shot was ever delivered into his body? I don't know, but I personally believe it's a little too simple and trite an explanation.

Anyway, I'm not here to argue with you about autism, I was simply pointing out that at this particular time autism is not shown to be a genetic condition, I've not read of a single form of the disorder that is proven to be genetic. Also, if you haven't received a proper diagnosis then it's difficult for someone like myself to simply accept that you are, without any doubt, autistic. I say this as a mother of an autistic (now a young man), a mother who went through many, many difficult years with him and still has concerns.

Cool.....tell me again why I'm concerned what some random Internet stranger imagines me to be based on her own son, who is a completely different person descended from a completely different family with different traits and characteristics? Again, regarding mainstream medical opinion, how can I take seriously the opinions of people who are working pretty much at the bear skin and stone axe level of development?

Modern psychology (like 99% of humanity) doesn't really know half of jack shit, and less than a quarter of what they imagine themselves to know. I mean, here we are living in a society where cannabis is still in 2012 illegal with "no medical use", and you want to tell me this country is full of enlightened forward thinking individuals who are really on the cutting edge of figuring this whole autism thing out? Can't even cure the goddamn common cold but self-proclaimed "experts" opinions on autism should be trusted as gospel?

Truth is, modern medical science doesn't have a fucking clue what causes autism. There's no consensus at all. That's why it's such a mystery with all these rumors and conspiracy theories flying around. So don't sit here and act like a man with a 150+ IQ who's put a lot of thought into it can't have an opinion that's just as good if not better than anyone else's. I'm not asking you to believe me. I don't care one way or another.

I say this as a mother of an autistic (now a young man), a mother who went through many, many difficult years with him and still has concerns.

Right, and my life was a cakewalk. I didn't spend my entire childhood on the verge of suicide, hating my life largely because of the conflict caused by being different from anyone around me, including my dad who could never understand how I think. I'm telling you, I am autistic.

Sorry you can't accept that, but it doesn't surprise me in the least. I've spent my entire life being not understood or believed. Fuck em all because the proof is in the pudding.

Wow, gingerale, you've got a real problem interacting with others, so that MUST make you autistic. Pretty much the only person who hasn't ragged on you in this thread and you just can't resist getting pissy.

You may be very intelligent, but that doesn't make you smart. At least your posts are readable!

Ending on a good note, and goodbye to the thread.... C'YA!
