I know this might appear to be in the wrong forum but what happened on this baseball diamond really had nothing to do with sports & recreation whatsoever.

this dirtbag needs to give up his membership card to the human race, do I sound maniacal in thinking a lifetime ban from sports would only be a start for this prick? In an instant we were able to get a momentary glimpse of what lives in this bastards heart.

He wasn't 'caught up in the moment', fuck no he selected and targeted the only defenseless person on the field, a man with his back turned to him. he lowered his shoulder to drive it into the spine of a defenseless man while running @ full speed.

Criminal charges will probably be brought but he'll likely be under-charged and do no time.

I think a lifetime ban from baseball would be in order. From what I can see in the film, it does not appear that the base runner on 2nd instigated anything and the outfielder came in and totally fucking blindsided him with intent to completely lay him out, which he did. This would be a cheap shot in any scenario, but keep in mind there wasn't even a fistfight going on, just some guys getting in each others' faces.

As for the Saints situation, I don't think it's okay to intentionally go out and try to injure your fellow competitors. Fistfights and scuffles are one thing, but for it to be part of the gameplan to go out and target certain players with intent to seriously injure them is just uncalled for. It goes beyond the strategy of the game to respect for fellow humans. We each only get one body, and when it gets seriously fucked up with things like concussions and torn ligaments, there is very decent likelihood that it will never be the same. I've had 5 shoulder dislocations from my football days and had surgery to repair one torn labrum and I suspect my other labrum is torn as well (never got an MRI on that one). Neither shoulder is the same as it one was, and the Dr. who did my surgery was previously the orthopedic surgeon for a MAJOR professional sports franchise who regularly performed the same type of surgery on multi million dollar athletes.

Bottom line you play hard and you play within the rules of the game. Sometimes there are scuffles and fights and sometimes players get injured, that's sports, but that's also a totally different thing from going out and taking cheapshots and what not with planned intent to injure other players. It's wrong for the coach to promote it and it's wrong for the players to partake in it. That is playing with zero respect for the game and zero respect for fellow human beings.

The way the woman filming it says "I think someone punched him" all nonchalant, makes me think that she wasn't surprised that it happened.

Baseball has a long tradition of throwing at peoples heads, sliding into second spikes high, charging the mound, and having bench clearing brawls.
Athletes handle their business on the field and not the court room. If the hit player hasn't filed criminal charges then time for the non baseball community to sit back and wait for the commissioner. A bunch of law breaking stoners may be better suited sitting quiet instead of yelling and screaming to have the government involved in someone else's life.

Wow....lots of activity over the hours....The issue is that what he did was against the rules. Should he be kicked out forever? No...people make mistakes all the time, he made a mistake. Should he be punished? Yes. Is he a jerk for doing so, well, that's subjective, yet I think he is. That doesn't make me soft or a puss...I like right not wrong. Same thing with a full contact sport as football. I don't agree with protecting the millionaires, but I do expect a league, players association and the fan base to protect innocent players after the play is dead....that's not puss my man, that's responsible.
