Freezing Cannabis?

Hello! Didn't know where to post this question but..I'am looking at storing my cannabis in the freezer will this cause my buds to lose potency? I've read a couple places that say this could cause a problem but thought I would ask someone who has tried..also looking at storing magic mushrooms there as well. Someone please tell me if this is ok??

i really honestly wouldn't do that. vacuum seal what you need to store (weed and shrooms alike), put it in a tupperware container in a cool, dark, dry place. should last for months. light can lower potency so storing in a dark area is a must.

if youre planning on freezing mushrooms of any type, make sure they are 100% dry before placing them in the freezer. I mean, brittle, stems crack in your hands kind of dry. Otherwise, if their frozen when wet the water will expand and tear the cell walls...then when you defrost you get a gooey mess.

get some damp rid, put it at the bottom of a tupperware container, put a paper towel over the damp rid and place your portobellos on top of that. once theyre cracker dry, you can put them in a vacuum sealed bag and store in the freezer for a year +. This is actually THE best way to preserve mushrooms of any kind.

As for weed....not really sure. I'm a mushroom expert but a weed newb haha. looking forward to other responses.

A friend of mine put his weed in the freezer for a few weeks and when he took them out they were like gross and pretty much wasn't smokable. I don't know any details or anything, I don't recommend it though.

Jars in freezers but I'd just use a vacuum sealer if you got one. then throw it in the freezer

Yes I agree making it air tight would be a must!! Don't want wet bud. Mainly wanted to know for reference. Thanks alot.

you can without any problem freeze herb as long as the stems snap , buds can be sticky.

When you take it out of the freezer just let it come to tempretature before opening the pack , i usually takeem out one day before


Sometimes i even take em out 2 weeks before so they cure a lil bit extra

That said , in a jar they will keep developping character , if you freeze em , they will stay like they are

I have stored bud in the freezer for the last 20 years, it works perfect. Get a freezer that is not a defrost freezer, the kind that builds up ice or frost on the inside. In this kind of freezer you can store buds in a paper sack even, but I use gallon ziplocks. I would imagine you could store for 5 or more years this way and the buds would be the same as when first frozen.... Make sure the buds are somewhat dry, if they are real wet the buds will turn black.

And like the guy above said "When you take it out of the freezer just let it come to room tempretature before opening the pack."

I too have stored weed in the freezer for extended period of time, and I have done this for decades. The weed needs to be cured first. It will stay as it was.

Years ago I would take a sack of buds in sealed bags and put the sack in a tupperware container and fill with water. When it was frozen, I would put a piece of freezer tape on the container lid that said "Bass-Bills Lake-1998" or somesuch. A frozen sack of buds in the middle of ice does indeed look like fresh fish fillets...especially if the words lead you there. BTW...a hammer gets you your sack fast.

These folks that have reported buds turning gross and nasty after being frozen, I have no idea what they are on about....never ever seen that before.


Let me also add....
I put all my sugar trim in a paper sack rolled up in the freezer immediately after trimming. It goes in green wet, but after a few weeks, the leaves will actually be somewhat cured. The freeze draws out the moisture I suppose...
I have cut up a whole plant of buds before and froze them for hash, and they were smokeable when I took them out months later to put in the ice bucket. Mind you they were wet green and right off the live plant just before freezing.

I put my weed in the freezer. I have an old bag from my outdoor summer harvest that is freezer burnt. It smells funny with a slight hint of ammonia? It was dryed wrong and I lost about 95% to mold. The 5% that I kept went right into the freezer.

I have a different bag that was not fully cured with zero mold. I put that into the freezer and its perfect. Smell delicious. Because it was still a little sticky before it went into the freezer. I always pull a nug out a day before I plan on lighting one up. I put the nug in a shot glass and in 24 hours its dry and crispy with the strong sticky flavor.

IMO the best way is to vacuum pack them but you have to keep resealing the bag every time you want a nugget.

Loving all the long storage techniques. Freezing is a great idea.. but I thought long term storage in a freezer was supposed to be in a frost free freezer not a old school iced up freezer? Is that right? Great info and tips

it doesnt matter as long as you dry/cure till stem snaps and you put em in an airtight container, i use ironing bags that i cut up to the measure i like

I agree with the pro freezer peeps. For a few years I was putting buds away in my freezer for a rainy day. I always made sure it was dried nicely. Last season my crop was stolen so I had to break into my frozen stash and it was perfect. Comparing different seasons with the same strains was a real treat

Wow....So much knowledge lost between generations.....Freezing properly dried and cured pot in vacuum containers be they jars , jugs , or Seal-a-Meals/Foodsavers keeps your dope in suspended animation as long as it`s not exposed to any of the 3 things that degrade THC/Potency.......

Light , Heat , and Air are the only enemies of your nuggage , so keep yer shit in the dark , in a sealed container , and frozen...simple...babyshit...

After a proper cure I do freeze mine in baggie and ball glass jar. Smoking some 2010 bubblelicious right now and it is real good. Works for me.

when i l ived back east . had one of those lay down freezers full of weed. never had any problems. but the weed in jars under my bed waas actually better. yes i did a side by side smoke test. so i only freeze extra now. my stash sits in jars for up to a year.

When I use to get packs of Beasters, I always stored them in a dedicated freezer at a trusted family members house. Would take one when I needed. Always worked perfect, but yea, only did it with product that was perfect.
