Yeah....Ph knowledge is essential in ANY setup , but.....with coco.... So is Dripclean....bet on it...

i'm curious. have used coco for a few years now. never used dripclean. i don't even bother to check the PH anymore (always the same nutes, RO water). have i avoided trouble because i'm using hempy buckets with a 10-20% runoff? or have i just been lucky?

DAY 7 FROM ROOTED CLONES (18/6 VEG)

So ... yeah... Plants on the bottom are greener with larger fan leaves. They've also got a bit more distance between nodes, which isn't too surprising. I raised the lights up higher a few days back and top tier plants are responding by getting greener and showing a lil growth.

(Learning in public is fun.)

Looking great Anti and in good health. When ya gonna flip? One of the things that I love about coco is that you don't need massive root space to achieve big yields. I grew out 6 cheese plants in 3.5Ltr pots around a 600w and got 1g/pw. How ya liking everything so far? I hope your ready for FAT colas :)

Sup Anti, just went over a few pics from your last run where you vegged 17 days from rooted clone. Looks like it got a bit over grown in there or is that just the angle of the pics?
There was also quite a bit of leaf, do you plan on defoliating sooner this time?

What's your idea on when to flip, I'd say 7 days from now max, but it's hard to tell from pics tbh.

How am I liking things? Well, let's see. I just watered my plants. It took 30 seconds. It involved flipping a switch on and then standing there for 25 seconds and then flipping the switch off.

FAT colas sounds sweet. Even getting somewhere close to my CFL results would be gratifying.

I didn't defoliate at all last time until the 4th week of flower or so.

I'm open to suggestions.

I'm kinda watching the top plants at the moment. There's more room (vertically) for the plants to grow this time, but I doubt I will let it go longer than another week, if that.

Do you think that the coco on the top was hotter because it was closer to the light? In the top photo it appears to be lighter in color then the bottom tier is. Maybe it is drying quicker. It could also be that the coco is hotter and slowing the roots growth. Don't know not there just asking. If this is the case I would think that as the plants get bigger this will clear up.

Last night I took most of the fans off the plants and I took all branches off. We're only going for colas this time.

I'll probably flip tonight.

Short of a catastrophic failure of some kind, I can't see this run doing anything but improving on last round, even with 5 fewer plants.

Looking at these pictures led me to spending another 10 minutes with a razor on a few branches I missed. I'm thinking maybe I should whack some mote of the fans away before they start to stretch.

What do you think?

Forgot to address this. I have been looking carefully for the last several waterings to see if this was an issue.

There are a few places where I found "dry zones" in between a few of the basket stakes. These dry zones were only maybe the size of a quarter to a silver dollar in diameter and when I found them, I adjusted the stake so that it would be as close to perfectly between two plants as I could get it, centered in the planter.

I know everybody's pissed at me for not getting a meter. If I had known a $15 meter was good enough, I could've gotten that for about the price of the friggin' drops. I was under the impression that the drops were more reliable than the (cheap) meters if I didn't wanna spend $$$ to get a good one. I'm trying to scrape the money together to get at least a $15 meter (suggestions?) soon, as well as a humidifier in the next few days so that my plants can stretch in a pleasantly humid environment.

I have to imagine that my much more reliable and regular watering is going to make a noticeable difference, and maybe each plant having slightly more than double its previous root space will also help.

As always, please point out to me when I'm doing something totally dumb. This is still a critique. I was given the option of changing the thread title and I haven't done it because I'm not finished tweaking and I still need the input from the peanut gallery.

I truly appreciate all the help you guys (and gals?) have given me over the course of this adventure.

:thank you:

Yo Anti, looks like the top row are doing some catching up....

How much do your plants stretch? Roughly what size are they now? Seems you done just fine to me trim wise, as long as the stretch will make them produce a decent length cola.

With coco I usually make the young clones work hard for their water. I find once the roots have established then they'll take multiple watering but before that they can get a lil stunted if you feed em a lot IME anyway. I xplant a clone into coco and water it till run off then leave it for 3-5 days dependent on how quick it dries out and only water again after this time/ pot has dried out significantly but not completely, that ensure the roots go off searching for water.

Coco is very good at insulating roots I'd be surprised if you had any issues with roots getting too hot or cold.

How much are you currently watering bro? Like frequency and length of drip period.

TBH, if your pH is reading between 6-6.5 I can't see you have issue. Those drop test kits are pretty reliable and accurate. Not to say that pH pen ain't where it's at just saying you can def get along with the drops.

Edit>

in this pic: https://www.icmag.com/ic/picture.php?albumid=36146&pictureid=865521 looks like the plants are lil phos def, the purple clolour is the giveaway. I have that with clones I put into coco sometimes, but it's usually when night temps are low that it bothers them the most they grow out of it quick enough which yours seem to be doing with the light green shoots from the newest growth. That can be a trait though of a strain, so maybe it's not an issue.

Hard to say definitively. Under CFL they'd grow to be about a foot tall if I flipped when they were 2" high. Last round I flipped around 6" and they all ended up around a foot and a half. They're at about 6" now and those on the bottom are perhaps 8" or so.

There's an extra 6" of height in the room this time as well (since I shortened the legs of the table.)

I watered once a day for the first couple of days and then I went to twice a day at about 25 seconds per feeding.

I'm currently doing 20 seconds three times a day. (Once at lights on, again about 5-6 hours later and again 5-6 hours after that.)

I have been running clones of this AK and my plants have been purpling up for 3 years. It gets as low as 68 degrees at night. (84 during peak.)

I've never been sure if it's a low night-temp thing or if it's just the plant.

I run that PH600 meter as well. It does move a little so it should be checked monthly. I usually just drop a little calibration solution in the top to check. It does not take near as much as if you put it in a cup to calibrate it. You will have to move it up and down a little in the cap to get it stable to adjust it. Doing it like this will extend the time in between purchasing the calibration fluid. Besides the PH meter and the calibration fluid you will need some storage solution as well. If you do not use the storage solution you will dry out the tip and significantly shorten its life. I put a little in the cap every couple of days. You will use a lot more storage solution then you will the calibration solution. Both will be used in small amounts though.

Also this meter is not water tight. I dropped mine in my mix and it messed it up. If you take the top off and blow the water out and let it set for a few days it may come back. I did this and it worked for me. I checked it with another meter for a week though to make sure it was OK. I have three meters and drops to check with. I have a 200 dollar Hanna meter that I don't even use much now just the PH600's.

I wouldn't flip yet, especially if you've just removed some branches. Give em a little more time to throw down roots in that doubled sized space. Your bottom plants are already stretching a lot so if you keep the bulb to the side of the upper plants, they shouldn't grow much vertically and will bush out.

Flipping at a certain height is just a rule of thumb in my book. It really loses value when your only talking a couple of inches. Ya can't flower an extra 5 days to put out say 50% more yield at the end, so have patience while it counts!

I didn't flip last night. I was planning to either do so at the end of the cycle today (day 12) or potentially wait a few more days.

Anybody else feel like weighing in?

If this was your first major defol of them, I'd certainly give them all time to fully recover (new growth) before flipping the switch. Otherwise, a handful won't recover as quickly as the rest and miss out on a bunch of the stretch, be runts, get shaded out, and not produce much at all for you.

DHF

Big atta boy TTC......Definitely give em all time to recover and look as identical as possible before pullin the trigger A....

I`ve never hacked and whacked on such little plants , so wait till they start puttin out new growth again as TTC stated....and then.....

Wait till end of stretch before touchin em again so they can get as big as they can before swellage/hormone changes set in....

.Anxious ta see how tall they get this run......Good luck and.....

Peace....Freds.....:ying:.....
