Yeah bro... I can't keep trying to force things. When the plants are ready for the vert SOG, I'll have that room ready to go... Till then, I'm gonna fill up space with plants on the floor so I can start having happy harvests... lol I'm sure I can still share a bit of knowledge and learn a thing or 2 myself along the way.

Bro, it's some bullshit... Normally we would still have snow this time of year. Fortune favors the prepared mind... and I wasn't prepared. Simple as that.

I have a guy going out to replace my pump tomorrow... Looks like $7-800... :woohoo: :puke:

Nowhere to go but up...

Now I have a 24k btu A/C with heat and auto restart on the way... Take no prisoners and never surrender... Shit's about to turn around. Now I just have to make sure I get that genny before winter to protect my new pump. I mean really, what else can go wrong? ha ha ha... I can overtake anything.

Got my split unit in today and just need to hook up the breaker tomorrow and plug it in. I have a wall unit in but its making my house almost 90 degrees.

don't get me wrong, i'm all about getting the pro's out to do something, but i like knowing how to do stuff myself. IME you can replace an old iron pump and pipe REALLY easy with PE pipe and a newer smaller pump with a plastic housing. with the house that close to the lake your well won't be deep. running a cable of some sort to the pump housing is also a very good idea just in case things go completely south

my last experience with a warranty was waiting almost a week for some clown to come do what would have taken me an afternoon (with the part run included).

now i have the part in the garage .......... but we all do things different

Split unit?

No, I'm not growing in a basement (Which I kinda wish I was right now...) and I had no need for the ductless AC since I have windows everywhere. So I got a window AC. It was about half the price of the mini-split,

What are you doing to exhaust the air in your basement? You should be able to duct some or all of that heat out of the house... Especially when we have cool air outside to bring in... Though when the intake air is 83F, ur screwed. Gotta have AC.

Bro, you know I'm a big DIYer... and I appreciate the encouragement. I've been pump shopping online and I can't find one that costs more than $350, and that's stainless steel... lol So I'm hoping I misheard the price of the pump. Even if it is over priced, and I get the warranty... That's all that matters to me. I really just don't have that extra afternoon to spend fixing anything that goes wrong in the next 4 years of growing. My goal is to only be there 24-36hs a week. That includes sleep and eating. I still eat quite a bit... lol Anyway, with 2 330g reservoirs, I'm not running out of water right away should something go wrong... I can wait a week for someone to come fix the pump while I'm back home going to class and working my regular job... I don't have the extra time budgeted for repairs. Everything has to go wrong now! lol... So I can fix it right now, and chillax later.

What do you mean by running a cable to the pump housing? There's all sorts of heat tape under the house, and even in the pump house... but I can't find anywhere it would plug in? The pipe that burst earlier in the winter was wrapped in the stuff... so I'm pretty confident none of it is doing anything. I don't know about how this stuff works though. There were 2 small horseshoe shaped space heaters in there this winter... I tripped the circuit, then had a power strip fail, and then the power outage... So I'm all ears on safeguards...

I cut a dryer vent in the side of my house to vent the air outside. My biggest problem is getting the hot air out of my basement. I have left the basement windows open all night with a fan going and in the morning it is mid seventies. By nine o'clock it is mid eighties. I have been getting little if any breeze to help cool the up stairs. Right now it is 78 degrees up stairs with the windows open and it is not even ten o'clock yet. I guess you can have to much insulation in a house. Well I have to get some wiring staples and I will be turning on the split and turning off the wall mounted unit.

sounds like you need to cut another 6" vent or 2... :D

I just got off the phone with the well guys... and it's a good thing I didn't take this on myself. Turns out I have a deep well, and the tank that holds water is shot, and they think that's what killed the pump. I would have installed a new pump w/o replacing the tank and killed that pump too... Additionally, my suspicions about the pump being ridiculously old were confirmed. The guy told me the manufacturer has been out of business for a long time, and they're going to have to make some changes for the new pump to fit. My bill just went up closer to $1k... :yoinks:

i mean cable as in wire rope.

when your pump is hung from a metal pipe, then at some point that pipe will rust through and fail which will drop your pump to the bottom of the well shaft. if you are lucky you can still pull the pump out with the power cord (which is not the best idea) but if the pump is heavy that wont work and getting a 35 pound chunk of metal out of a 8 inch hole that is 30 feet deep is NOT as easy as it sounds.

hook a stainless steel cable to the pump housing itself ( there is usually a thread cast into the pump housing just for this) and if thing go really bad all you have to do is grab the upper end of the cable and pull the pump out.

the extra work involved in installing this is not even 1% of the time and money that it would cost to fish out a busted pump and pumps have gotten much lighter in the past 20 years so on a lot of them it does not have to be done.

i would ask your well guy to replace as much of the metal pipe as possible with with PE while he has it out. i would also ask him about the check valve in the pump itself, if you can take it out it is possible that the back flow will empty the water out of your pipes in winter so you wont have freezing issues (THIS IS more work for the pump, but fixing busted pipes is work too) most plumbers hate this idea because of the huge "air slug" every time the pump cycles, but plumbers are paid to fix frozen pipe and can charge you double on nights and weekends too.

do you know how deep your well is ?

i would make a point of being out there when he fixes this thing B. ...... i would bet you a case of beer you will be sitting there when it is over saying "i can't believe i just got charged $800 for that"

you said there was a guy who lived out there year round. have you asked him what he knows about well pumps? he might be able to give you a class on this subject that would only end up costing you a 12 pack

good luck man

It's a suction pump, so it's above ground... I'm in the process of moving to a new spot... So I have a lot on my plate right now. I would love to watch if I had the extra time available...

Thanks for all the input bro. Normally I would be all over something like this, but I just want to have it done right so I can get back to growing fine herb.

1K that stinks. You may be having a hard time but my ac is in and it is 78 in my flower room now. As for another hole at 6 inches, I don't need it. I have another vent hole I can hook up another ac if need be. Now I am just waiting on my (4) 600 watt ballast to show up so I can run two more vert circles.

to be honest i have never even seen a suction pump on a well in my neck of the woods, but with a lake right in front of your house it makes perfect sense. as much as i hate to say it i would be calling the pump guy too (at least once).

i hope your new spot has some nice simple city water

Suction pumps only work on shallow wells. With the lake and the age it is what is expected around here. Newer wells generally have a 100 foot depth mandated by the health department to prevent sewage contamination. This depth is where the submersible pumps work better.
