glass concentrate dishes...whats the point!?

ok so ive been working up a nice collection of high end pipes, i prefer the scientific glass type pipes because they seem to be focused more on a connoisseur hit vs a lot of art pipes that you can't even find the mouth piece on lol...anyways i got a nice little vapor globe a while ago, and despite there being basically no instructions online on how to hit them(unless i wanna see some smelly 15 year old kid hit one in his moms basement from a dirty bong on youtube), i figured out how its used...

after figuring out how it worked i realized i needed a dabber device that was better than the paper clip i was using...i just ordered a glass dabber, and was about to buy one of those "glass concentrate dishes" you see all over the aqualab website...however i cannot for the life of me figure out what they are for! from my searching i have found references to people just pouring a glob of oil or a chunk of hash into it and just using it as a temporary spot to set it, then they put it back in a jar when they are done? that seems totally pointless to me, why not just dob it straight from it's original jar?

i know people aren't storing concentrates in these ash tray looking dishes long term...there is no way to seal them...so whats the point?

is it just like something to keep the dobber from touching the table? like you aren't meant to physically put anything in it it's just to keep the sticky end from touching the table and catch anything that might fall from the dobber?

I've seen people using the to store their concentrates. The ones i've seen stack, so you can have all your varieties in one nice stack and keep dust and such out. I like them in that you don't have to reach down into a jar to get your stuff. easy access.

Why does it need to seal? I'm new to making oils, but i've just been keeping mine in glass jars that aren't air tight.

the ones i'm talking about aren't like jars at all, they are like hand worked glass dishes with like one or two little divots like ashtrays, no lids would fit them...i don't know how to post a pic from another site or i would, lol sorry, here's a link to what i'm talking about. http://aqualabtechnologies.com/concentrate-utensils/worked-dishes.html?p=2

Its just a cool piece of glass to store your concentrate. Im all about the parchment paper, no need for dishes here. Usually have 3-4 different oils at a time, each gets its own piece of parchment paper, folded up and into my air tight jar.

When you are done cooking your first stage oil (oil that has been filtered and cooked down to a viscosity of MAPLE syrup) you put in there to evaporate down to karo viscosity before putting in permanent storage. Heroin addicts use them for cooking I am told. I use them to make hard candy using the methanol extraction. Different strokes for different folks.

Never be afraid to ask a question. My entire professional life was built on my willingness to risk looking like a fool in order to learn what I thought was important.

Lol, i've been wondering this myelf for a while. Seems like dust would get into it left out on a table and light as well as oxidizing oxygen, which would break down the thc...right? For 85 bucks, I still don't get it. Why cant I just let the oil reach Kero viscosity on the pyrex dish used to run the extraction, or another?

...only thing I can think of, is that these dishes would allow one to get ALL the oil out of the container, where as some of the 1 gram, and 1 oz oil jars, seem to collect oil in hard to reach places due to the shape and small size of the container.

Karo is a brand of light corn syrup.

Hahaha...when I was a heroin addict, I made bogus hash-- I used the Light Karo syrup...mix it with sage...for the Blonde Lebanese...the dark Karo...for the Black Afgahni-- (Sorry if I ever sold you any!! Lol!!) Oh yeah...I have been clean like 17 years now...no more of that!! haha

lmao....this sure aint tokecity........

some of us enjoy art, some of us like something a little more stylish to store your oil in beside a plastic cube or piece of parchment paper.

most people that use dished are oil heads, and most dished only hold a few grams. most oil heads will empty the dish long before it has any chance to collect any dust/funk, unless your just a grimey guy

$85 for that fucking thing that would take 5 min to make and people bitch about a ounce for $250 that takes 5 months to grow.... WHAT THE FUCK !?

yeah your telling me, lol that website seems to have a pretty big markup...

but i've been thinking about it...these dishes, they are an accessory to the vapor globes...those are geared toward the utmost connoisseur, are they not? the type that clean their pipes EVERY day, use organic hemp string to light bowls, change water in their bongs several times in a single smoke session, they only smoke with the thinnest papers with no glue at all, and of course they only smoke their own herb, and do it all with a VERY discriminate eye...

after all if you aren't the sort of person to dwell on the details, you can get a bigger rip by just putting a bit of oil in the center of a bowl of weed...but that would detract from the purity of the hits taste and effects, so i'm assuming that's part of why vapor globes were invented, since i cannot get a rip from my vapor globe that is any stronger than a rip of weed mixed with hash or oil. not that you have to be a connoisseur to own one, just that i think that's what they were meant for...

given that premise...i can't imagine anybody (like me) that refuse to smoke out of a bowl that isn't cleaned between EVERY session, lights bowls with wax coated hemp string, and would rather go sober for a year than smoke something off the street...well i can't imagine that kind of person just pouring oil onto a small dish and leaving it out of oxidize and get all dusty and covered in cat hair(because all stoners have cats)...i think from a high end smokers point of view they are more of a novelty, like most of the other little things we use to get that extra special flavor from our buds...they have a use, but it's limited and you have to have a fairly cultured palate and sense of formality to use them correctly because, like most frivolous toys of the privileged few they don't have much physical use...like the $100+ joint mouthpieces made from mammoth tusk(yes they exist...and i want one!).

sure all a person needs is a pack of papers and tips, or one small bowl, to get high all they want, but does that stop some people from spending thousands every year on glass pipes and accessories? naaa some people just like to have it all, motivation be damned.

i think a true veteran cannabis devotee would agree that the only point of these 85 dollar dishes is to lean the dobber over, because a properly loaded dobber should have a snake of hash almost an inch long hanging from the tip...you can't just set it down on a table, i actually have been resting the end of my dobber off the edge of my coffee table, but there is a constant worry that the worm of hash will fall from it unnoticed, and get mashed into my carpet, lost, or that i'll simply have the glass nail red hot, and glance over to find the dobber empty...by resting the tip of the dobber over the dish you keep your table from getting sticky and you have a small containment device to keep the hash from falling off and rolling away...

i don't think they are meant to store oil or hash... only a serious marijuana aficionado is gonna spend 85 bucks on a dumb little dish, whether they own the vapor globe or not, and i don't think many people willing to spend the money on a high end pipe like a vapor globe, high end, ultra potent extracts, and all the expensive, fairly frivolous accessories only to just leave their oil(the most important part!) out in the open for days on end...just because some people do it doesn't make it necessarily correct...it'd be a lot like obtaining a very rare, pre-Castro cigar, only to take it home and leave it out on your desk at home for a week before smoking it..
