Attempted Home Invasion last saturday

Last weekend on saturday,my wife took me out of town to buy me a new TV for the bedroom as my 50inch RCA shit to bed.We got a new one at Best Buy and came home directly to set it up.We ended up going with LG LCD..on to story. My wife is laying in bed watching TV,we have Dishnetwork. She hears noise from behind our home, where dish is..she asks my son"where is Dad?" son replies"he is in kitchen",wifey says"He cant be he is out cleaning snow off dish or off the hottub"..My son says"Im looking right at him" so just as he says this the screen on TV reads"Total Loss of Signal",so something is amiss.I decide to look out sliding glass doors and see the arm is broken off the dish itself.I decide to investigate. After loading up the 1100..I went outside to see major foot prints in snow and decide to call LEO as I am finacially responsible for that Dish.So after hiding all my weed,I call LEo..send somebody over asap..so I decide to go outside to wait for them and as soon as I open door I see the doors open on my wifes Jeep and tracks in snow going to it.I decide to wait for LEO as to not ruin evidence. When they get here we go outside and see they swiped my XM Radio and attempted to steal book of checks but there were none in it.Perps went to house next door and tried doors and thankfully they were locked but they went next door to old mans used cars and broke windshields out of 2 trucks.I live very rurally and am chronic pain patient on major dose of oxys.Scared whitless that it'll happen again as cops havent made arrest.I think its kids vandalizing, but what do I know.Getting ready to start grow 2012 but am having second thoughts due to this bullshit going down.Drama..we live it every day here..sadly I wish we didnt..Peace and One Love BigD

I wouldn't trust it either if the police haven't found anyone yet. My opinion is that it's someone who's been paying a little close attention to who they feel are vulnerable, if not caught more than likely will do it again, next time may actually inter your home. Or you could do like I would do start my grow get my piece and wait for them! I feel whether or not you start they will try it again, damned if you do damned if you don't!

Put the dish on your house and get some alaskian malamutes...and a gun. I'd recommend something you don't need to aim very much if your not experienced so a shotgun is a cheap option that is good for intimidation and if needed to use takes very little experience to properly operate...

He is a nasty ass too.All I had to do was open the door.He gives no warning and doesnt bark/growl before he leaps into action. He weighs 130lbs and was the runt of the litter. His fathers head was as big as any Lions mane I ever saw.I mean Cujo was a pup compared to him..Yikes.He would be on them like a cheap suit then I'd get sued for them trying to rip me off.It never ends...BigD

probably just kids and more scared of you than you of them.

wouldnt confront them though unless i had to, but sufficiently loud noises should have prowlers like that fleeing.

That, and you don't want your dog getting shot or stabbed. I'd be going away for murder, if that happened.

I've got a "runt" Saint too. He has been 125 most his life, but has since put on some weight, because he can't run anymore.

Love my 1100s. Ive got plenty of other shotguns but even though the 1100s are semi vs. pump, 2 3/4 inch vs. 3 and rather heavy they are my go-to guns. Rugged , reliable and somewhat suitable to minor modifications like stocks, mag tube capacity and barrel length.
That scene sucks, bigdaddy. I understand the feelings of violation, doubt and uncertainty that follow.
You did the right thing though. Going outside and possibly confronting the perp could be used against you if something happened and the situation heightened into a confrontation. You could possibly be held responsible for escalating the situation into a deadly encounter. Staying inside your home , protecting your family in case the ghouls decided to come inside was the wise choice. You dont know how many are out there, if they are armed etc. Keeping the dog inside, waiting for them to attempt to break in and being ready to send them to their maker as soon as they cross the threshold is a wise choice in such a situation.

get a bunch of good night vision cameras like i did! havent had a problem since they went up! before then, they broke into my car 3 times and stole all kinds of shit..... move into the neighborhood, clean out the cars and leave the hood in less than 10 minutes before any caops can arrive and before anyone hears them!

OK, here's the less than lethal approach to keeping bad guys @ bay by teaching them a cheap lesson in fright.

fiocchi.jpg

I bought a box of these a couple of years ago from a friend that came across them. The first 2 rounds of ammo in my Winchester 1300 are Fiocchi Rubber Buckshot rounds, the next 4 rounds are lead buckshot.

if you're gonna do something like I've done then make sure you've got the shells in the right order so that you're shooting the rubber FIRST! (Thnx Bobby).

if you're the excitable nervous type then place a spent shell between the rubber & lead shells, even if you've forgotten how many rubber shots you've fired you can't get to lead w/out coming to the dead shell first as a reminder, the one drawback of course being the 1 or 2 wasted seconds cycling a dead shell out if you're really in a hurry for a live one. But being real, that won't be happening to 99.99% of us.

Wouldn't it be rubber last?

As you load a pump action or semi shot gun, it pulls from the back of the mag. Doesn't it?

Rubber penetration at what range? I like your method of loading sequence. A blank shell heads up.

Cool.

I would never advise people to put a spent shell in their defensive weapon .
Why would anyone create a intentional malfunction in their defensive weapon when they will be using it in a tense and hurried situation?
Without training and practice an "excitable nervous type" is going to end up dead because someone advised them to place a spent shell in their shotgun and they couldnt remove it from the action/chamber quickly enough.
Do you have any idea what 2 seconds are worth in a defensive and life threatening action? Most people cannot clear a malfunctioning weapon in 5 seconds, never mind two or three.
An attacker that is 20 feet away from you can rush you and be on top of you within two seconds.
Forget about the useless rubber buckshot. That is for riot and crowd control. At 790 fps with rubber balls all you will do is piss off a determined attacker.
If I point a gun at someone it is because I intend to kill them, not scare them off. It is the choice they have made and a risk they are apparently ready to take by making the decision to put me in a situation that needs a gun between us.

Ahab is 110% correct.

Defensive firearms are no joke and should never be considered unless deadly force is called for to defend someones life.
In a defense situation, maximum shock and knock-down power wins.
You may save a life with rubber or blanks but it's a fools gamble that no one familiar with defensive weapons would be willing to take.

a gun should never be pulled as a threat. if you have to pull it, aim to kill, not scare! if the asshole is high on meth and you shoot him with rubber bullets or over his head, youll just piss him off and he WILL kill you if he gets the chance. rubber bullets have no place in a defensive weapon, just the same as blanks.

i have had firearms pointed at me in threat and it didnt end well for the people brandishing them. if you have to pull a weapon, use it!
