welcome! i honestly don't know off the top of my head where that info is in here but all of us together have enough experience to be able to tell you what you need to know.

if you can tell us what medium you will be using i'm sure someone has prior experience with it.

} is because of the PWT.because the PWT cannot be higher than the top of the pot i will simply add a 6" drain tube filled with PROMIX to the bottom of the pots and allow it to DTW..

hey, i don't know much about promix but i doubt that any professionally composed mix will have a pwt greater than about 2".

if you are going to go dtw and will not recirculate you could just hang a piece of polyester batting out of a single hole in the bottom. 3/8 or 7/16" with rolled up batting stuck up into the medium approx 2-3" and hanging at least 8". this distance will overcome the capillary potential of the wick. any water in excess of the pwt will drain out in the normal fashion.

this will require daily watering, probably.

your containers are about 3/4 of a gal. what do you intend to use for a tailpiece? 1/2-3/4" id should be fine.

1" ebb and flow fittings cost less than a tailpiece and would fit the bill with a short length of hose attached. (7/8" id)

you mean like these, gregor? with a piece of fairly rigid hose attached.

excellent idea! i've been looking for a smaller diameter version of the 1.5" tailpiece with a lip on it. it never occurred to me to use a fitting with a hose.

now with a low flat box with holes in it for a res and the soggers can party.

it doesn't have much of a lip on it which is perfect as it won't tend to trap water. and it can be used without glue.

Large hydroponics stores typically stock them as well, and hose that is easier to work with than hardware store vinyl hose.

I like that sea of green idea, and plan to eventually implement something like that for mothers. I have a ton these ebb and flow fitting around.

As long as I'm typing, are the side holes of the upper buckets 5/16"?
I drilled mine yesterday, and figure I probably screwed it up.
So far I have stretched out the building process several months.
I will be using the previously mentioned 6" irrigation Halos:

when i did E&F i built my own tables from plywood and rhino liner with regular pvc fittings glued in. i do everything the hard way. why do something cheap, fast, and simple when i can spend weeks and lots of money building?

i drilled 7/16" holes in mine but if you have already made 5/16" ones they should work fine.

if you do want to correct an existing 5/16" hole you will have to use a 7/16" metal twist drill bit. you can't use a spade bit like for wood because you can't center it. most small drills have chucks that only accept up to 3/8".

another correction could be done by just drilling another 5/16" hole making 6 5/16" rather than 5 7/16".

personally, i would just leave it alone. it will work fine.

hey everyone,
The only thing I can't find is a link to a multi-page pdf? about using capillary mats. It was posted as just a link (i think) so searching for keywords yields nothing. Might be easier than individual wicks for a SOG. Just lay down the matting first and hang it over the edge 8". You could do a few plants this way to see what happens

...sprouted first seeds in 75..harvested first buds in 76..harvested first MATURE buds in 78....first indoor room in 82 was a 5' tall 10' by 10' dirt hole under a house...55 degrees year round...mounted 10 8' t12's on a piece of plywood ....took 6 months to grow those 4 oz's...now using 3600 watts HPS and CMH over a 6' x 9' perpetual SOG...moms are in standard hempy buckets...pump and wand hand watering DTW in PROMIX...TAP WATER and JACKS 10-30-20 at 750 ppm 6.2 PH...6 to 8 oz's per week harvest...i love spending time with my girls but medical issues are starting to make what was once easy more difficult..not trying to increase yield...a little automation seems to be what i need..going to add wicks to my moms hempy's..
