70w hps club

Diesel_N_Blood Thanks for chiming in and asking for more specifics!

Lights - 1 x 70w HPS horizontal along the top middle of the cap.
If it were my grow I try to bring up the w's per sqft(50w sqft is standard, any more is not going to gain more yeild). Take the closetmaid cab suggested above. It's 12"x24"=2sqft. So you'd only have 35w a sqft. If you'd add 2 26w 3000k cfls now you're at 122w with 61wsqft plus 3 light sources.

As you might remember i am using a 70w hps. Havent decided if it was worth my time to make a remote balast. It stays cool enough "i think" without putting in the labor of love in moding it.
It is always a good idea to remote ballast if you can. Doesn't take long and removes heat from grow and let's ballast run cooler which will lengthen it's life.

Grow Type - Will probably be training and did plan to scrog, however since i dont have fem seeds and no place to keep clones yet, i will just be doing sog.
I'd go for 4 plants from seed and lst them early. Once a mother is made then make clones and sog the shit out of it. Once you get set you could go perp. and be harvesting weekly.

Fans - My hope is to have 1 small, powerful, quiet fan pulling air out with passive intakes from veg -> flower -> utility rooms. Currently i have 1 10inch OdorSok that came with a kit i bought. I personally dont trust is as much as a carbon filter, though i have never used either.
does it have a cfm rating. Also depending on strain odor may not be a huge problem. The odorsock might work. Remember 2x the intake area than the exhuast.

I am looking to get a small quantity, enough for me and my better half, to perpetually harvest around 1 oz per month, every month.
all dependent on you. No one can tell you what you'll havest. But 2 larger sog'ed type plants should yeild that every month. If you find a 60 day havest strain.

If you have a link to the cab @ walmart, please share!
walmart sells the same cabinet that was linked to above for $29. Nice cab for a small grow.

Hope all is well with your 70w mh security light, your grow looks great! K+ good luck with the hermi
Thanks. I just went ahead a killed the hermi. Just looking forward to moving out of current place for a more secure local. I've got a 150w hps and just ordered a 600w hps so I'm going to have 2 diffent flower cabs and one veg ( pulling the 2 70w mh out and putting them in another veg cab)

Nice thread, I might just get a 70w for my 15"x15" speaker box. I have a cooltube with a 48w cfl right now but that 70 watter sounds good..
Anybody know where the security lights are on sale in So.Cal ?

Hi all, I guess I'm in! Here's my cab I just downsized. I used to run this with 250W, but that was overkill for my smoking needs, so I'm now set up with a 70W HPS and 2x26 CFL. I hope to get a shipment of beans sometime soon, and get this greened up a little bit!

someone said cmh or chps dont need ballast and can be plugged into regular standard sockets?!??! is that true? i doubt it, im sure they still need ballasts.

i dunno who told you that but im glad you haven't tried it.

cmh bulbs under 250w need a pulse start mh ballast of which i will be buying one in the future. cmh bulbs over 250 DO NOT NEED PULSE START. in fact that will make them explode prolly. for over 250w cmh a regular MAGNETIC ballst for HPS is what you need.

no HID lamps operate without a proper ballast. unpossible. will not fire.

this bulb works without starter. It is 70Watts. The only disadvantage is that the bulb is coated.

oh yeah that will work without an ignitor its an hps, hps don't use ignitors only MH ballasts. for CMH you will need a pulse start ballast up to 150-200w whatever the highest bulb and ballast is they make before 250w. 250+w cmh can use a regular hps magnetic ballast because those all have ignitors. low wattage hps and mh ballast don't need an ignitor to light the bulb except for the pulse start which is a newer technology.
