Just froze a case of butane

Don't know if I got over a hump, but I froze a case of power 5 for 48 hr. Blasted 500g of golf ball size nugs, chopped up gently by hand. I came out with some of the best shatter I've ever made. I've used this quality material before, without getting these sort of results.

It's all about paying attention to your variables, trial, and error! I really hope this butane freeze trick works again! What about putting a heat pack around my tube while I blast with frozen cans? Got this idea from the Tami's web site ... just a thought! Happy Extracting! :jump:

would love to see some pix. (and sample some shatter!)

skunk pharm research heats the column of the butane recycling system.

faster extraction with heated column.
thanks for that insight, ill keep that in mind. I actually experienced a bit of difficulty last night running a few ounces with Power 5x that had been in my car all day, nice and cold. My stainless extractor got ridiculously cold and it took an extremely long time for any liquid at all to spew. I thought the cold was the "problem", but didnt think to heat the column, ill have to give it a try next time

Heating the tube sounds crazy to me. I think it was jump who was explaining to me that heat will cause you to grab unwanted stuff like waxes. For the tami or closed systems I know nothing about them.
If I freeze my tane I also freeze the tubes.

The heat packs for the Tami are to speed up the solvent recovery time after an extraction, using one on an open-ended blaster would be pointless. Keep things as cold as possible and you'll come out with a better product.

Thanks for the insight .... would it make sense to freeze the tane, and put small chunks of dry ice in the tube?

We heat our tube during recovery, but not during flooding or soaking, because we want the butane to stay liquid as long as possible,

so lets say im using a stainless steel turkey baster, i should pack the baster, freeze the canister with its full contents, freeze a can of butane over night, (not sure on the time for freezing the butane?) spray the tane (half a can or so?), and then heat the canister to remove the remaining tane? im unsure of what you mean when you say you heat your tube during recovery? ive done tons of runs at room temperature, but never with frozen materials

Again, heating any part of your extraction vessel is only beneficial in a closed-extraction setup where you are trying to recover and save the solvent. Using an open-ended tube you only need to worry about keeping it all cold.

Heating an open metal tube of butane sounds tricky to say the least.
Don't blow yourself up.
Gray wolf's system is closed I believe.
Just run everything cold, you'll be good.

alright cool thats what i thought at first, then high me was reading and got a lil bit confused. Can anyone recommend where to get a metal screen for my tube? i had one, but its been used so much it ripped in half on me :(

Stainless steel mesh sink trap from the hardware store.

i went to el casa depot and looked, all they had were the ones with fewer large holes, kinda like a cheese grater, no mesh ones :(

instead of coffee filters or metal screens:
ive been using the bottom cut out of one of my old bubble bags, which doesnt get much action anyhow these days.... also used a pressing screen that came with the bubble bag set with great results.
