moonshiners show

Only 4 episodes?

I'll be watching. I would hope they got two separate crews to film, otherwise the crew would lead the coppers right to the still?

Hell of a lot better than weed wars.

hey krunch check this out its an 11 part video by popcorn sutton and is a great watch.

you need to check your local laws about making the shine here we can have a homebrew still as long as your still wont run more than two gallons of whiskey it may be different out there. i have my grandfathers old still from the early 60's put away in the back of one of my shops. i talked to him the other day and he said if i pull it out and clean it up he will show me how it used to be done. i think i will dig it out in the next week or so and see what i can conjour up.
I saw those videos last night, really good stuff. Then I looked around a little more and I saw this. I wasn't sure if anyone here knew how Popcorn died. Very sad, and it pisses me off.

I've taken a sip of moonshine. It was supposedly "peach." Tasted kinda like what I imagine acetone might.

The problem with 'shine is that you never know.

If you make your own, I'm sure it's fine.

The biggest thing leading me to question Tim's judgement is that he'd have a guy named "Tickle" anywhere near his children.

Also, Tim wants to go legit. So I have to wonder if the money that the show is paying him to play pretend is going to finance that.

I think its weird how they follow the shiners and the Leo. Didn't I see an episode of them shooting at each other? Its just like that towing show on a and e. Fakkkkkke

I had a few stills

I had a few stills

I had a few stills - which my Dad made.

One was a Pot Still - where you heated (pressure cooker) your mash and ran it through a Copper Tube encase in 4 inch PVC encase and pump with Ice Water. You would get about 30% runoff.

An improvement was the Refractor Still (?) which was a Copper Column (2 inch) filed with Stainless Steel (like brillo pads no soap), there was a exit tube about 1/2 way, the Top had a digital thermometer to monitor the temp. This was screwed in a 5 Gallon Boat Water Heater (with the Thermostat disabled).

You would fill it with leftover beer or wine or alcohol and it would pump out 80% plus.

I made beer for 30 years and this was just an amusement for us. You could start a model airplane with it.

I would start you uo for sure :ying:

Well something's not right that's for sure..I mean they have all of the video evidence they would ever need to convict ol Tim. He may be distilling water, who knows?

they are prolly legal to run the still for fuel...and showing how it's done for "other purposes"....plus prolly dumping alot of water jugs out...and tickle is drinking the rest

From what I've read about this show tim is not really making moonshine on camera or they're just making small personal batches which is legal there I believe. It's pretty much faked/staged, but I'm sure he knows how to do it for real. If you check out his website he's looking for investors so he can do legally. I think he did the show to try and get his name out there to better his chances of going legal. Plus I'm sure he's getting paid to do the show. There's no way the IRS wouldn't follow up on this if he was really trying to raise 200gs in tax free money all on camera.

Anyhow I still like the show regardless. I've always wanted to get a small still going at some point. I think I will someday once I'm more get more rural on acreage. So many uses for 95% moonshine other than drinking.

Anyone who thinks this "reality" show and any other one on TV isn't 100% fabricated and scripted is kidding themselves. It's entertaining, but not real in the least bit.

Can someone in the know help me a little with the culture:

1) I watched Popcorns movies on YTube yesterday...can someone help me to understand the guerilla nature of the cooking, why do you have to "go look" for a site. Why not a barn, basement, outhouse, on-property dug-out...hell, tim has a nice piece of land with barns etc. You would think if you could get it on site you could do it year round. Its not illegal to drive to another state to buy some corn and sugar. Are they in state forests or something, my grandparents owned alot of property up in Saluda, NC in the Appalachians, and I can assure you...as much as my family drinks, and even made shine in the day...squatting 'shiners would have been "removed" from the property.

2) If we can grow cannabis with no detection, you sure as hell could come up with a way to run this with zero-low signature with some foresight into underground cooling of the "smoke" if any, and scrubbing the discharge with carbon filters to eliminate the "mash" smell. I guess we really aren't seeing the truth on the show.

good q's bro!...i sure don't know it all regarding the 'shine biz...but i'm sure it's just done as a quick doc. ...tim is a smart guy u can tell that...plus he's a volunteer firefighter...a capt. i think....i think it's just to show how it's done, make it look cool, and put a face on the business...like it "could be anyone"...like us growers.

they are trying to represent

I think some things to consider are not everyone..or even anyone had running water in the heyday years of making moonshine..and not everyone had a basement. Cold water is very important to turning the steam, or vapor back into a liquid. A good cold water source is a key element :artist:
