Weed Wars: New show on Discovery

G

I remember those debates / discussions. Most people arguing for a no vote on prop 19 did so because it was bad law that would have kept almost all of us criminal.

In any event no one in this membership runs around on TV claiming to be part of "The Movement" and then states they don't favor rec use.

CA regulate like wine act is a much better proposal and hopefully it will pass in 2012. There are no restrictions that would criminalize home growing.

really appreciate your insightful and well worded posts. Thanks :dance013:

I think he made that statement to save his ass and make his Pharmacy look more legit. Remember guys/gals he is walking a tight line and owning a Dispensary and seeling meds to sick patients and claiming that he thinks MJ should be legal for Rec use would be suicide for his buisness, freedom and would jeopardize all his employee's.
His way of saying to legalize for rec use is by saying its for wellness. That he/we medicate for the healing and wellness aspect that the plant provides, Like exercising. At the end of the day I think he want's legalzation for rec. use. But his position forces him to be sneaky and try to put a "health" spin on it for the "Rec." users.
I'm not standing up for him just playing devils advocate. But just think about it. The position that he sits in. How can he say that he wants rec legalazation and own a dispensary in calif.? I think he is just playing the game!

One does that through honesty in face of oppression. He has the balls to call them out and say he qualifies for 3 death sentences. Not to hard to then state that He and HBS work in full compliance with CA state law, however He believes in every adults right to enjoy cannabis.

BTW how much cannabis must you cultivate over a life time before you are eligible for a federal death sentence?

Steve Deangelo saying, “I do not support the legalization of cannabis for recreational uses.” ought to be enough evidence that the whole medical marijuana movement in Kalifornia is about sucking up to Uncle Sam and/or Big Pharma. Damn, they're handing the whole thing over to them, and don't even have the decency and respect for those who went before to simply shut the fuck up about recreational use. I mean, if you're not gonna help us, atleast don't fuck it up for us on national tv. Mother fucker, I am mad about this.

That old man was a smoker. The "try to hit the pipe like it was a glass dick" was for show. The first time you take a hit of hash you almost throw up, if not throw up. He made some comment about that's it, and held it in. Then he did not get weird in the least, and was able to go on a walk by himself. Not gonna happen. This entire show is staged more than the average reality show.

I was on a reality show, and let me tell you that none of it is real. They almost tell you exactly what to say and do. This shit is more fake than Pamela Anderson's boobs.

I am happy for the show to be on the air, but the show itself is struggling to find content. They need a production company higher up on the food chain to make this show because it is just fake as fuck. It seems as though they are struggling to find shit to film.

Have they forgotten what they are doing is illegal so that makes it interesting. Show the people growing it. Show the people processing it in all of it's forms. Get in depth about how hash is made, edibles, tinctures, etc... Talk about the chemical's in the plant a lot. Have doctors on that can verify what ailments each chemical can help. I can go on forever, but I am afraid this show is going to get cancelled.

Hopefully Nat Geo's show is better.

This show is like voting. It is the lesser of two evils. Come on Nat Geo!!!!

right, i thought if that dude really got stoned for the first time he would be staring at a TV that wasn't even on instead of walking around outside and talking to people...

what Nat Geo show?

As far as harborside and BHO extractions.....i was in there for their vender class that you have to attend in order to vend to them. This was about a week before the first show aired because they were handing out cards to people to advertise it. So they run through everything and when they got to the extractions they were VERY CLEAR that they except butane extractions, but that it has to pass the hot pin test. I have never bought any extraction's from them so I dont know if they say they don't sell butane made products or what......i do know they buy them!

While the message of this program may not be 100% ideal for legalization advocacy (and our cause in general), at least it's transparent.

The truth is that many of the patients who use cannabis do so for very real medical needs, which this show reveals (the CBD products, cancer & glaucoma patients). It also reveals that the gold rush in cannabis isn't as lucrative as many may think (the growers begging to sell their stuff, thousands of dollars of handout 'staff samples', etc.) And perhaps the hardest truth for us, that people in our community are by no means perfect, and to that point there are a lot of goobers running dispensaries in goobery ways.

Deangelo is a self-promoting dong. So is Marc Emery. So was Steve Jobs. They aren't ideal personalities and they have their faults, but nobody is perfect. Deangelo says he only believes in the use of pot for 'wellness', but why does he smoke then if he believes that's true? It's publicity, and it probably stops nay-sayers dead in their tracks when he says that.

Moreover we have to remember that this is entertainment. Discovery probably visited 100's of dispensaries to find the right balance of entertainment and (as best as they could) education. They seem to be fairly open about the positives and negatives of the present situation and I applaud that. If they had done this at Farmacy it would have been boring as shit, mostly because the people that run that joint have their act together, and ultimately may not have made it past the screening board.

This is the best mainstream representation we could have hoped for. The producers could have spun this any way they wanted and I think they did it the right way.

Steve Deangelo saying, “I do not support the legalization of cannabis for recreational uses.”

What a fucking hypocrite. He calls it medicating when "he" is doing it. Loved that.. I cant seem to be able to pick out a tie let me medicate. He's a head just like most of us. That whole scene hurt the show.

I have high hopes that the show is going to help us in states like Okla (doubtful though) that have shitty laws. I wish they wouldn't even show consumption on the show. The softball team does edibles while competing? How is that helping the movement? How is that showing this in a good light.

Im new here and the show is what brought me on the forums. Im excited and intrigued and I love the show but dont like how some things are portrayed. Im really starting to not like Steve and his bro but I do like some of the others.

Probably not the best way to start post #1 but I felt a response going on. I genuinely have nothing but support for those that have found cannabis to ease any suffering they may have. As for me I have no suffering I JUST LIKE TO GET HIGH!

Now on the other hand...if Oklahoma was to allow the medical use of cannabis Im a broken down hurting like a mofo wanting my medical card ASAP. I guess that would make me then a hypocrite also based on my above rant

Im off to the introduction forum where I should have started at first.

You made many good points. However, it doesn't excuse Steve from saying, "I do not support the legalization of cannabis for recreational uses.” And then doing the shit he did on the show, like 'medicate' to pick out a tie. That's hipocritical.

Another point about the show, it makes cannabis seem even more dangerous if it's bringing relief to all these people in this show that have very severe and real conditions, God Bless 'em. I can hear Middle America thinking, 'We need to get this powerful, beneficial drug under the control of somebody we trust. Like the FDA and Eli Lily Corp." Then it's game over, folks.

If someone's really watching the Discovery Channel to try to discover anything real about cannabis, then I would just say 'good luck' to that person, because they should probably just smoke a joint instead, but they won't because they can't escape their programming, and I wash my hands of them.

I thought the show was just more bullshit from the mainstram media basically.

Is this series done already? It just started on 12/1, and only 4 episodes? Did Discovery Channel decide to can it??

It was entertaining, but I really didn't understand their approach. Steve is facing a 1.2 million dollar tax assesment, and he sends his brother to meet with the City? So he could go and speak at a convention??

As pot smokers, we all have our weird behaviors and looks, but how credible is a business that has a guy who wears dresses, and the owner has pig tail braids down to his ass? Wasn't there anyone on their staff that had their shit together and could articulate their position intelligently? It was def not the brother/general manager.

The show had some great moments, but it could have done more to advance the cause.

Thanks Major for a great thread!

It's the Bay Area of California. It is a contest there to be the strangest, It has always been like that there. If you want to be remembered there you have to put on an act and persona. Remember the fight promoter Don King? How about all those wrestlers? They do that to be remembered and to succeed.

As for acts, that stance on Legalizing is sort of an act. His livelihood depends on him taking the correct stance. Especially with all the legal problems he is facing. He has to court the public for support to exist. Not to mention legalizing marijuana would Seriously cut into his business profits.

I have told many people that Anyone can be rich, or at least successful, in the USA. You just have to decide how far you will go for just money. How far will you sell yourself out. If you don't mind cheating, lying or dressing up like a clown, or just taking other chances you can have plenty of money. For most, money is not worth it.
