What are the genetics of PRE98 BUBBA KUSH?

So far every S1 I have popped was just like the mom. I could not tell the differance between the mom and the s1 plants.. I guess im one of those luckiest growers...I wish Chimera would post his opinion about that here.

Peyote Purple from CBG is a Katsu cut it is also a S1...

an S1 of an F1 individual will segregate like an F2 generation.

An S1 of a true breeding plant will breed relatively true in the S1 generation. The degree of variation in the S1 population is directly correlated with the degree of heterozygosity within the individual being selfed.

Hope that helps Hammerhead,

:tiphat:Hello to all, nice thread. I was thinking about Peyote Purple, I believe she does not come from the katsu cut, she comes from a male found in S1 and a segregated work over a sativa pheno, making the line reg but 95%-98% female, might be wrong, anyway veryy nice plants.

Nope she is a Katsu special Pheno that is what kaiki has said. It was found by someone in his group of growers there in Spain. It was initially only a limited release but the hype has turned it into a staple in there gardens now.. Your right about the the ratio of males. They found a few males so they could not offer it as a S1.. When this strain first came out I had a few conversation's with Kaiki about it so if the story has changed ???

thanks if someone can confirm stories thats awesome!!

So Im still tryin to figure out which Bubba I have..
When I put the dry nugs in a small room the room reeks of coffee, but when smoked it is very sweet.. It is extremely crystally, and produces popcorn to golfball sized nugs. It grows w/ 1 stem growing up (when not topped), with branches going totally horizontal as opposed to somewhat vertical.. There was some purpling of fans towards the ends, and it finished in about 8 weeks.
So what makes me wonder if its the pre98 is the very very sweet taste. not fruity, but more like bubblegum diesel.. I dunno if the pre98 tastes like that, and I know there are bubba fake remakes out there that that are bubblegum x kush, so it made me wonder.. The one I have leaves you purposely exhaling out of your nose for a minute after each hit, because the sweet bubblegum taste lingers and tastes sooo good..

Ill post pic's when I get to borrow a camera soon (I break mine all the time).. In the mean time, can anyone say if the pre98 tastes super sweet? / if my description sounds like pre98 or a different bubba?

Does it look like this? Then its pre98.

From your description it seems like pre98.

The genetics of pre98 bubba are pretty obscure and I think its is a master kush or a pure kush cross with Afghani.

growhi, I agree about the seeds and finding something new everytime, but most growers who are growing for medical reasons cannot wait around for a seed to mature and maybe be good or not. This is where the clone game comes in and why it is so popular in California...

Katsu bubba. More stretch than the pre '98. Very hardy and easy to grow. I'm supprised we don't see more Katsu hybrids.

I heard that an alien came down , analy probed a guy from Alabama and left a seed in his poo poo, that was the original seed of Pre98 Bubba (get it a Bubba from the south) Kush and this all occurred in 1997 thereby creating the "Pre98" part of the name.

You can now close this thread as the question has been answered!

Which is better, Pre-98 or Katsu? BTW I know that's a hard question to answer, but what do you guys think? I have the pre-98 growing now.

Thank you Spring and Calicio!!! That is exactly what I needed! Although I was starting to be convinced I have the pre98, im starting to think it might be the Katsu because the leaves were all purple and yellow at the end of flower.. My pheno is also pretty stretchy..

Does the Katsu have the sweet lip smacking taste or does the pre98 or both?

What are the genetics of the Katsu? Anyone know?

Now I am very very interested in Hundred's question.. What do you guys think.. Whats better, pre98 or katsu?

Also, when not topped, my pheno of Bubba is very very easy to pick out of a random group (even in veg) because of the horizontal branches, rather uniform growth, and decent stretch... Does that description stand out to anyone/ sound like what they have? (and if so, which is it?)

Speaking of pre98 bubba has anyone grown out those pre98 seeds from that other seedbank? If so how close is it to the real deal?

What these folks don't realize is when someone who understands genetics grows out S1's of Bubba, or Sourd, etc, etc, etc, and it breeds fairly true it shoots to hell their BS story's regarding the genetic make-up of said plant/s. Anyway, there is just no way Pre98 or Katsu are F1's NL or otherwise -no way. This is not to say that there is zero variation to be found in these lines, but relatively little to be sure.

I'm into a more cerebral broadleaf, and ditched both for the Bombthreat (a pre98 S1) ;) -T

Afghani Landrace..... super dom in every cross...those arent these genes of some random fluke cross... plus BUbba looks like Twin Brothers with some of the Iranian Landrace Plants I have...Go figure :)

I don't think it's a landrace. I've been growing out a Pre-98 x Affy '76 cross and each time there are two distinct phenos, one is Bubba dom and the other Affy dom. Besides being stout they're not very similar. There's def a bit of sativa in the Bubba.

Where it comes from doesn't really matter, at least to me. It's firemost smoke.
