Is this a good set-up for first time?

Hey all , I'm thinking about picking this set-up up in the next few weeks , I've grown outdoors for years about time I try indoor.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/600W-Grow-Ki...483?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3f0fb832ab

Also whats a good strain to start with ? I was thinking Aurora Indica because it's cheap , looking for a good yield with a kick I guess.

Working on a budget so maybe someone can point be in the direction of some cheap nutrients , preferably in Canada.
Thanks.:tiphat:

Check your PMs for a better source :)

That kit is somewhat okay, but I do not trust that ballast or those bulbs whatsoever.

Aurora Indica is a good strain to start with, for sure. Northern Lights is a nice starter-upper, too. Anyone who says, "ehh, northern lights is just okay" clearly hasn't had northern lights grown to its full potential. It is always a crowd-pleaser when grown well!

its "OK". you're aware that you're trading name brand quality warranty for affordability.

if you get a grow tent, get a mylar. so you don't risk someone using that old toxic panda film.

a magnetic ballast would be cheaper, however commodity no-name digital ballast could be ok too.

as for the bulbs, you're not buying top of the line, obviously. so, that is what it is.

it'll grow weed tho. lumens on target, carbon filter for smell and fan for ventilation. you're saving money by having a cooltube with a wing reflector...

hey, if that's how you want to start out your indoor experience, go for it. as with most things, tradeoffs are involved.

you can grow some great weed tho. i wouldnt settle for just NL though. depending on your tastes...you could buy a few fem'd seeds, diff nirvana stuff. whatever. all strains will pretty much be growable, dude. some are finicky, but stick close to the forums and you'll get help.

On one hand, the seller has really good feedback- over 5000 sales and 99.6% positive, and it looks like he sells a lot of gear for growers. Plus, it's all there, in one grab.

On the other hand, I think you could buy this stuff locally, 1 piece at a time, and get some change back from your $500 or at least get better gear for the dough.

I'm an econo guy myself, CFL's and hempy buckets ftw, so five bills seems like a lot, esp. just starting out.

My $.02 worth, on sale now for FREE!

Good luck!

First thing I noticed was this;
UL certified procucts, 3 years no hassel warranty
Vendor is saving major $$$ by not using spell check, so he's passing savings on to you...

As others have said - you could source all this separately, and prob get cheaper. Take $500 to local hydro store - cash speaks volumes.

I have no issue w/ NL - to be honest, it is the happiest weed I've ever personally grown, and I love it. Fem'd seeds might be better option - check SeedBoutique for End of Line Female Seeds - <$25 for awesome genetics.

Good idea asking here - you'll get alot of advice, most will be bang on - everyone has their own faves. Wait, get a consensus - plan, plan, plan...

Good luck...

most people leave feedback when they receive their item not 6 months later when its all broken and shitty.

Seeds
If you're looking for cheap seeds I'd go with Nirvana, I've used them before as well as seedboutique, my seedboutique seeds are in veg now and my Nirvana seeds have gone through a cycle and clones are in flower again. I found a few keepers out of 3 packs of seeds. I got Snow White, Black Jack, and Blue Mystic. Blue mystic was lower yielding but was by far my favorite as far as taste goes, I found a very skunky smelling and tasting pheno as well as a pineapple smelling one. Snow white was the biggest yielder I had, 3x stretch, smells and tastes citrusy and had 20oz size buds when they were all dried. The blackjack I had no luck with, 3 males and 1 female that sat in flower for 4 months in multiple different rooms and ended up just getting thrown away tonight because she still had barely any flowers and I was done wasting my time.

Reflector
You can go vertical and skip the whole reflector thing if you want.

Ballast
If you are looking for something cheap buy a magnetic ballast as stated above.

Light
If you can afford to buy a good light, it is highly recommended, I would get a Hortilux eye hps if you are using a magnetic ballast and only want to get 1 light. If you end up getting a digital ballast I hear Ushio's are good however I run magnetic so I can't personally comment on that.

Tent
How much space do you have to grow in.

Do you really need to grow in a tent? you can easily make one yourself for much less than buying one and you can put you're vents wherever you want, doors, light hangars, etc etc.
Nutrients
are you going soil or hydro? if you are going soil I would just do it right and go organic and use one of the soil recipes in the organic soil section on these forums.

If you're going Hydro I'd just use Maxibloom to start, get yourself some PH down, maxibloom and a ph meter. 7 grams of maxibloom per gallon of water, or 1 teaspoon I believe is all you need. Once you get more familiar with what you are doing you can branch out and get other nutrients or make you're own mix etc etc

Filter and Fans
Get a Carbon filter!!!! You will be surprised how skunky some of you're plants can smell in veg. you can make you're own filter cheaper than buying one there are many different methods. Click on the link below to go to the official Do it Yourself link thread. everything you need to know here to get started, and not just for carbon filter, for your whole setup pretty much.

Also you're going to want to get fans probably, I'd go with a 6" fan to pull through the filter you make and cool you're light, you can buy the 6" flex to route your fan through your hood at Lowes or Home Depot or something like that for much cheaper. Get a few 6" clamps too while you're in that section.

Just saw this was in the soil section I clicked on it from the front page and thought it was new growers. Nevermind about the above maxibloom for hydro than since you won't be using dro.

Panda film is none toxic. It's used everywhere I use it.. The stuff you need to look out for is PVC. If the tent has this it will kill your plants. These tents are comming from China dont buy them...The tent will be the most expensive part of the equipment you buy make sure it's a good one like Secret Jardin or Homebox....

^^ I was wondering, about that comment lol. However too start I would recommend possibly trolling the craiglist depending on you're area. In most major cities people are selling lights second hand you just have to make sure you're buying some old stock or premium ballast with long life spans. I've even seen a couple people selling tents perhaps they were the pvc off gass'n tents who knows always a level of unknown with internet purchases I find most people on craigslist will let you inspect and such so you don't have the hassle of receiving a product that wasn't what you expected and then hopping through all the hoops to get it back to them.

/\/\ Craigslist is the spot for good grow deals if you are in a med state that is.

It's common for a new grower to buy the most expensive name brand gear then end up washing out because they forgot to buy a pH meter and end up selling all their gear on CL for nominal prices. If CL isn't an option, check out online retailers, brick and mortar hydro store sales guys prey on new growers that don't know what time it is.

In addition to what is provided in a package you are going to need some sort of growing containers.

if you are going soil I would just do it right and go organic and use one of the soil recipes in the organic soil section on these forums.

Organics for Beginners - this is the thread you want to check out for basic organic soil mixes.

I don't know what kind of outdoor growing OP does, but there may be some complimentary.

For instance, there is some interest in and experience with using local soil as a component in indoor soil mixes (see Thinking of using local soil...maybe?).

There are also indoor growers that rely on grown or wild harvested plant material for all or most of the fertilizing in their gardens. This is done through the use of fermented plant extracts (see Fermented plant extracts or by making plant meals from dried plant material that can be top dressed. Two plants that are often used for these purpose are (stinging) nettle and comfrey.

So if OP is out there hiking around in the back country checking on an outdoor grow, he may find some opportunities to responsibly-sustainably harvest some soil, mulch, forest duff, rock dust, or plant material that would be useful for his grow (see [URL="https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=215776&highlight=wild"Wild harvesting of natural materials[/URL]) and in so doing save himself some money.

This right here.. I almost made the mistake at buying a complete kit like that but I ended up buying everything seperately and saved me about 300. Just piece everything out and buy them seperately.
