I'm super stoned right now so you'll have to forgive me for this almost entirely pointless thread. I was just surfing a few threads on here and came across some posts that had anywhere from 10 to 20 "not helpfuls," and I got to thinking. I honestly can't recall a time I've ever selected that option for somebody's post...I guess I just don't see the point. It seems like the only reason people get neg repped in that capacity is because the people doing so disagree with their statement, not because they are presenting information that is inaccurate or harmful to the community in some other way...

That may seem like common sense to some of you (and remember, I'm real high right now) but it seems like a rather petulant, angsty sorta way to express an opinion...not to mention that the anonymity of the system (i.e. you as a poster do not know who voted your post "not helpful," only those who voted it as "helpful") is always going to lead to abuse on a forum like this.


To put it succinctly, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think this whole Karma and Rep system is a lot like Communism...great in theory, not so much in practice. Any thoughts on ya'lls part you might want to post would be swell.

I think those are only for the actual "karma" points, where you click that icon and can either leave a comment or not. I'm talking specifically about the "did you find this post helpful? yes/no" at the bottom right of every post.

rep is for internet nerds who cant/dont want to engage in either discussion or banter on the forums, neg rep is for internet turds who think it will detriment your life to be given red bars in between green bars...i have found that when some one leaves me neg rep my points go up to go with the nasty message, go figure??

not always. if you click the neg rep @ bottom right it will not show who neg repped.

it has good intentions but i know for a fact that some will neg rep just b/c they have beef with you or who you roll with.

really chickenshit but it occures.......if ya dont believe me ask jjscorpio, he had to ban some to get that petty stuff to stop.


i enjoy a neg rep so long as it was backed up by a post explaining what info given by me was wrong / bad. im all about helping and learning and not passing on bad advice.

it doesnt matter that much but imo the 'unhelpful' button is abused for the very reason that it is anonymous. if people are going to publicly mark a post as unhelpful then they should be identifiable by the poster whose post is being labelled that way.
if this was the case they might be a bit less flippant about doing it in the first place
