Just curious who here is a coder? I use Java mostly, with some Open GL, I'm starting up on webwork, HTML is pretty easy, but I want to learn some other things as well.

Would love to chat and expand my knowledge as well as help others!

I used to work as for one the big 5 PC Manufactures Web Division and have a Business MIS Degree; Mostly managing Oracle and Linux UNIX systems and databases ... and programing automated QA system checks in VB (Quick Test Pro) and eventually automated myself out of a job there except for consulting ... Very happy about that lol ...

Working in a cubicle is depressing or staying inside all the time for that matter ...

Use technology to make your own business or life easier; I will only code stuff for my business now; otherwise it isn't worth my time ... I would actually hire some one but the quality I know the schools put out is crap and are lazy ... and they charge to much ...

You can get a phd programer on a work visa from Russia for 1/3 the price

Web Programming is more fun asp, php, databases ... but pays abit less ...

Once you know one you know them all ...

Does Lua count? I love programming games in it. I tried C++ and C#, and pretty much hated both of them. Lua is so much easier to use when you're high.

I've been coding longer than I've been licensed to drive a motor vehicle, started out with C then moved on to harder sh!t, as they say, lol. Currently writing alot of Ruby and Java.

C is fun, once you know calls and stuff.

Basic, is way more fun lol. It's easy and you can make beeps.

I only learned a little openGL for my phone, I had made a few android apps that drew ovals and circles, rotated them.

It's really fun to make your own programs for android, it's just so tasking getting the dev kit and understanding how the program is packaged to work on the phone.

Currently working in financial trading. Spending most of my time right now on a Java / Spring framework MVC app. Good times.

I've been writing software since the 1980's, professionally since the early '90s, using pretty much any language or dev environment that seems to be hiring the most at the time. I've worked on compilers and interpreters, embedded programming on microcontrollers, asset tracking and hardware test automation, even have code that's still in production use in the military, etc. I'm currently working on web-based applications for a large digital equipment manufacturer, though I'd rather be doing just about anything else :D

One thing I've noticed consistently is that no matter where I've worked, from Microsoft to small startups, there's usually at least one person there who admits to toking at least on occasion, and several that I suspect don't admit to it.

We are everywhere, lol.

i just piece together batch and bash scripts to help me get more done with less on windows and mac systems mostly, not a real programmer but it is pretty empowering being able to hack together some simple tools that save you hours upon hours of time doing admin work

as far as toking, man this datacenter i worked in had the air cycled out once or twice a minute, as long as i stayed out of view of the monitoring cameras that noc had setup there, i could blaze all day long, loved that! at this place it used to be okay for me to do that in our tiny server rooms, but things have changed with the company culture and i just won't chance it, i miss burning down on the roof too, i just go to the car or go for a walk or something now, the bosses eyes are often very red and very low though haha

I learned C when I was 12 years old. I've learned tons of languages since then, but I've been doing C and C++ more than anything else in my professional career. I'm not burned out like some programmers after 10+ years. I have a great job now, but if I ever won the lottery I'd just do it as a hobby again.

It's funny, when I got my first programming job out of college I was too paranoid to talk about weed. Nobody there knew I got high or that I was getting started with my indoor gardening hobby. Maybe 3 years later, I slowly found out that more than half of my coworkers also liked getting high. A bunch of them were growing it too. I never would have guessed before that such a high percentage of the best programmers out there were closet potheads.

I need to get one of these programming jobs where everyone is talking about weed. That has not been the case at the companies I've worked at. As matter of fact most of my co-workers in corporate America would love to hear some dirt like that so they can throw you right under the bus in attempts to make themselves look better at promotion time. Just my experience.

i was a financial programmer .net programmer from 2000-2008. C#, oracle mostly, with occasional scripting. I found that many good coders smoked weed but yes, software companies can be miserable places to work. I use to get around this by working for consulting companies doing project based work at bigger companies. This way, you never really had to be involved with the politics bs since everyone knew you'd most likely be gone after the project was over anyway. Often you missed out on the 'perks' offered to fulltime employees, but whatever.

I had a job like that in Florida. Never again. I only took that job because my previous company went out of business and I got laid off. I'll never work in a place like that again.

For good programming jobs, you should look in Silicon Valley. I just moved out here a year ago, and I love it. The companies out here are trying to outdo each other in new benefits, perks, etc. for good programmers. There aren't enough programmers to fill all the good jobs out here. It also helps that California is a lot more friendly and open about weed compared to the east coast.

i know of programming, the last programming i ever did was some c# it's pretty decent fun. im trying to learn some asm and c++ and opengl. i want to make games and someone suggested i start there. anyone into games and trying to code them?

Learning the basics of Java, C# and will begin learning web authoring in the spring. I am forced to learn this on my own time because my current job doesn't require these skills.

I learned pascal/delphi in high school. I was excited when I started college and had a computer programming class... but that was short lived. The first day the professor said we were going to spend half the semester on Cobal. I lasted all of 2 weeks in that class before I wanted to blow my brains out. Going from an outdated Dos based language to an even older language killed me.

I've tried java a couple times, and got some programs up and running on my android phone. I always said I'd love to be a programmer full time, but I'm so far behind the times on coding languages now.
