Week 6 update

Week 6 update

I've discontinued Big Bud and started using Overdrive for these last two weeks. Since adding overdrive I've had to turn my scrubber on medium and it's struggling to contain the smell. I didn't know grapefruit was so smelly, or maybe it's the overdrive. either way, I may have to turn my fan even higher.

This is the most resin I've seen on any plant I've grown. I don't quite know if it's the strain, the nutrients, the new light or everything. Next grow should clear things up.

I won't focus any time and attention on the bagseed. it's terrible, really terrible. I'll wind up making hash out of the entire plant and I don't expect anything significant.

cheers!

You're rocking this 250 scrog very nicely HG. One suggestion I would have for you is to forget about sticking strictly to the 8 week and you're done schedule for your plants. Both plants look awesome but you're bagseed might be heavy sativa so it could just be taking longer to mature than the GF. It's not that it's necessarily bad weed or bunk, it just has its own time frame it wants to take to flower which is probably going to end up being a lot longer than 8 weeks. I would not give up on that one just yet, you might be pleasantly surprised how it turns out if you give her enough time to develop. The GF on the other hand is definitely on track though, you should be able to smoke that one in a few weeks like you said and really like it. I wish I could work a scrog net into my cab like you have those things really bump up your yield levels something I always struggle with :/ Take care!

Thanks everyone!

noobian - i had thought that she might be a crazy-long flowering sativa. I think I'll continue watching that bagseed. That puts a slight bump in my plans to germinate tangerine dream now in hopes of putting her in the tent when this grow was done. but, my patience has always been rewarded.

I'll have week 7 pictures up tomorrow sometime.

I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am right now. In August the wife and I went on a cruise to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel. While I was in Jamaica on the beach in Montego Bay I bought a fat ass joint (lovely tropical high) and got to talking to this cool ass dude. I told him I was a farmer and he said he'd love to help me out. A little while later one of his buddies came back with a small sack of seeds. I'd say there are probably about 20 maybe 30. Some of them were cracked others were not in good shape but there were a few that I will would say were viable. Before germinating Grapefruit I decided to germ about 10 or 15 along with the bagseed currently growing. The results were terrible. Zero germination. So I had little hope for these remaining seeds.

Coming to the end of this grow I started thinking about my next project. So, earlier this week I took the remaining seeds and I scored each seed with a razor to give it a head start. I used the paper-towel inside a plastic bag method and set them under my bed. I forgot about them for a couple of days and went to check on them and three have sprouted. Yes, three seeds acquired from a small beach in Montego Bay Jamaica have sprouted and are going to be my next project. I'm somewhat worried that I'll wind up with all males, as that is entirely possible, so I'm going to germinate a single tangerine dream as well. I don't have any great expectations as my current bag seed is completely disappointing but, seriously, seeds from a Jamaica? I'm stoked!!

I'm going to arrange for 3 5-gallon buckets this time. more, smaller plants, less veg. I think that'll work. What about a little planned parenthood, pollinating for more seed? hmmm...

Week 7 - Day 49

Week 7 - Day 49

Haven't run into any further problems. Things are progressing nicely. Pistils on GF are beginning to brown for the first time. The strict schedule has me harvesting next Friday, but from what you will see, they are not ready.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend!

Day 56 - Week 8 update

Day 56 - Week 8 update

Thank you everyone for the kind words, plus rep!

Today is the last day of week 8 in flower. I'll discontinue Overdrive and only feed sensi bloom until the flush. Overdrive really did its job and created a load of resin on this plant although Grapefruit has fabulous genetics making this a sure winner.

You'll begin to notice the tips brown and burnt. This only occurred after I added Overdrive. Grapefruit is a confirmed light feeder and adding full strength Overdrive was a bit aggressive. The 2ml/liter should be the ceiling, not the base dose.

Just a few snaps for today. Next update should be flush. Have a great weekend everyone and happy growing!

Why the strict schedule? take your time guy.. when you think its ready give it another week, good rule I grow by.. you won't regret it!
- btw what are going by as far as when to harvest?.. hopefully not just counting days?

Thanks DeoXy! Grapefruit is an 8-week strain so I was hoping to go 8 weeks. You're absolutely right, "when you think it's ready, give it a week!" I'm going by the condition of the resin glands (trichomes). I'd like to harvest at as close to 100% cloudy as possible, a little heavier on amber is fine.

I ask myself that same thing, jolygreensprout! I've only grown from purchased seed, I thought I'd like to give proper care and attention to bagseed to see if it's worth it. It isn't. Never again!

Thanks diggdugg! I've got more pictures of the Jamaican sprout but I'll document that on another site.

On a grow note, I've begun flushing the bagseed cuz I want it out of my space. I'm making bubble hash out of the whole thing. I began flushing it today.

On the Grapefruit, I've discontinued Overdrive, Big Bud, and Bud Candy, and am only using Sensi-Bloom A/B. It's around 800ppm.

Have a great weekend everyone!
