Disclaimer: I'm not a licensed electrician, nor did I stay @ a Holiday Inn. I know a lil something about it.

Rule of thumb. You only want to use 75% of the rated amperage of a breaker.
Assuming were talking 110v; 20 amps @ 75% would be 1650w. You want to leave some room on the breaker for the start up spikes.

With that knowledge handy, you need to add up the wattage of your pumps, fans & other devices to see if it'll work on that circuit. You could probably go a little over the 75%; but I wouldn't go much over for safety sake.

Sman yes you are good to go, and this is a professional opinion :)

SGT Pepper, you are safe to use 80% of the breaker's name plate rating based on the NEC electrical code, which is 16 amps on a 20 amp circuit. With 1800w you are using 15 amps.

Sman, your lighting circuit will work just fine but you are at the maximum lighting that you can run on that 20a cir. so if you are planning on ever upgrading you better bump it up to 2 20amp cirs.

Glad you chimed in. I normally leave a cushion in my electrical advice because many in growing over-do-it, as I'm sure you've seen many times. I'm glad there's a resident pro here. After having been through a house fire before (not related to electricity), I'd hate for someone else to learn about electricity the hard way. :tiphat:

awesome, thanks. i just didn't want my electrician to have to come back and change stuff later. also, i don't like all my lights turning on at the same time so they each have separate timers to engage 5mins apart. that should also solve any start-up spikes, i think.
