Do you realize that the soil you have your plants in will hold the chemical fertilizers it provides for six months? Unless you plan to have your plants in that soil for seven months plan on smoking some harsh herb my friend. Why not transplant to a better soil such as roots organic or ocean forest. Also it has a time released fertilizer which will only provide x amount of nutrients at any given time. Marijuana is a finicky plant sometimes it wants more sometimes it doesn't, what do you do then? Sometimes it wants less but has more forced upon it because it's there what do you do then? Just from a guy who's gone that route before, starting with a good quality base will go a long way toward future success. But do hope everything works well for you my friend. Peace!

Sorry to keep jumping in but is the water you water with ph'd? Don't assume the miracalgrow will have enough lime to keep it balanced. So always ph your water dude don't take that one simple step for granted cause it will fuck you up! If you do keep them in that soil do you have any idea what you will supplement with? Have you got any calmag on hand if not get some will come in handy. Also be careful how much of anything you put in your soil as you don't want to develop any toxicity issues.

i just got a 6" inline fan

D'oh! That's called a booster fan because it provides a boost to your real fan. Without the real fan, boosters are largely useless. Any chance you can return it?

Do not be confused by the word "inline". Many seem to think it means "sucks like a Vortex centrifugal." Any fan can be made inline. In this case it's an axial fan, the fan least capable of dealing with pressure such as carbon filters.

Have you checked out Ventilation 101?

now im all confused what fan should i get for a small grow of only a few plants. my current grow is 1 ft by 1 ft by 4 ft

Well... I don't know your full circumstances. How much do you have to worry about smell? My first grows where small CFL cabs to. I didn't worry about smell then. But I kept them in my closet, in my bedroom, on the 2nd floor, in a house I shared with my best friends! Also, they didn't smell much because I wasn't doing very well by them. If you find your self in a similar position, then the fan you have will work fine.
But....
Imo filters are a friend!
I would suggest getting a actual 4" inline fan (from"grow"shops, etc). You could get a "ACTIVE AIR" for $110-$150. Also you want to grab a speed control for the fan (prob less then $30). This set up will allow you to pull air thru any filter you decide to use. It will also be useable for a hopefully future upgrade!

These are just my suggestions. Check that link out from Freezer Boy if you hadn't, and just keep asking questions if they are there.

I agree with MarrDogg on your soil. Mediums, nutes, Ph, and ferts are confusing, so don't worry if you are confused. Theres a fairly simple route, and all you need is....

Soil: Ocean Forest by Fox Farm it's organic

Nutrients: Recipe for Success Starter Kit by Technaflora Plant Productions Ltd. basically ask organic and runs about $40

A basic ph kit

The nutrient kit will tell you exactly how much of what to use and when. So if don't know anything about nutes, you don't have to( for now)! Just make up small amounts of nute water (you don't need much and it doesn't save after being mixed well) and then ph to 6.5, pour in! A few months from now you can be smoking some dank/sticky/organic nugs that YOU grew!

What about the K.I.S.S. method for nutes? I've taken notice of the thread blowing up lately but haven't really looked into it.

I mix my own soil based off a mix red_greenery used in his Rubbermaid grow. I used it in my first grow and I got good results. Only additive I use in my water is Schultz 10-15-10 plant food.

i really want to keep things simple due to me living in a city apartment and this being my first grow.
Yes i did read the Ventilation 101 thread

I checked out lill on the K.I.S.S. last night, and here is my opinion...

It does seem like a really easy & cheap route with some good results. I didn't dig far enough in to see if it works with soil tho. If it does I would sug giving it a try.

(That being said I could see how K.I.S.S. might leave room for some deficiencies, leaving you buying nutes anyways to fix the prob. But ask around and do your own reading).

If it's for hydro/coco only I would go with your soil/nute kit. Soil is cheaper then hydro gear, and you can get it in small bags. I believe you don't have to water as with soil as much as coco (i could be wrong). The nutrient kit is cheap, small, and easy to use. There's enough nutes in the kit to last a few rounds, and it even comes with coming with cloning gell! This will buy you time to figure out if you want to continue growing, and if you do... Then you can do your research and pick what you think is your style of growing.

Hmm.... I'm thinking it could be of 2 things. Over watering could cause a nitrogen lockout, but since they are small and don't need nutes (just ph'd water) I'm thinking it's the second

Wich would come from the "Miracle Grow". Is not really that good of soil, and does come with nutes you needed (just a lot of them), as well as other bad stuff. This makes your soil really "hot", and every time you water your actually feeding. So they are getting to much food and "shit".

So imo just give them "enough" water to keep them going. Then get better soil, figure out your what you want for a "nute" system. So when they are big enough to transplant you will be back on track!

Hopefully a Vet will stop by and let us know if this correct out not!

Any ways, keep us posted!

I found this chart on here a while ago when some of my leaves were looking weird. I second all4theluv's comment about using miracle grow.

what is an amazing chart!!! Thanks for the info. After doing more research im going to start using hydroponics. I have a PH meter, PPM meter, 2 inch net pots, hydroponic clay pellets.

Question: WHAT/HOW do you do with the left over stems and leaves after a harvest? (what do you do with the waste)

I plan on making qwiso with all my trimmings from my harvest. Since I grow on such a small scale I just throw my waste in with my normal trash that goes in a dumpster.

I would suggest never throwing away anything to with your grow room in YOUR trash. Even if you live in a friendly state, you don't want people finding out you grow period. Cops and theaves are everywhere! Make hash out of your "good" trim, throw rest in some woods (I'm starting a compost for mine). Dumpster bomb all other grow trash.

Your seedlings will have some twisted leaves and a few tiny burn spots until they get a bit bigger.... MG soil really sucks for seedlings but they should survive if you don't drown/dry them to death. :D

Do yourself a favor and go through each forum section and read ALL of the stickies in each. Once you're done with that... read them again. Seriously. Every time you read through all of that you're going to put new stuff together in your head and have more detailed questions.... reading it again answers your questions while bringing up more.

When you start running out of questions about the basics.... you'll be able to run a great grow without much help. Taking the hours to read this stuff several times will potentially save you weeks and possibly months of frustration and disappointment in the future.

Your seedlings will be fine with just water for a while. Your main concerns need to be making sure your plants will have suitable temps, humidity, air-flow and nutrients during veg and flowering. Focus on boning up on ventilation, light density and the basics of hydro.

If you want cheap simplicity with great results... stick with the Lucas formula/method. Maxibloom is the cheapest 1-part nute I know of that supplies everything you need to feed the Lucas way.

R/O water is extremely important if your tap-water sucks.... you can bet heavily that your tap water sucks since there are only a few places left with good water.

Stay Safe! :D
