my cali-o quest

seems like i'm seeing signs of the apocolypse every night on the news
so whatcha gonna do? for me it's crack another seed and open a grow log
which brings me to my own white whale, a femme cali-o
2 males so far(nirvana's), but reg seeds, no complaints
i now have a bunch of cali-o crosses, cross my way to a female if that's what it takes

in 3 days here, seedling's looking healthy, but started with a strange color, kind of rusty white
cup is dish washing liquid/water, had an outbreak of fungus gnats last grow, they kamikaze into it
i really, really want a female this time, but i probably already mentioned that

another page for the grow log, steady, healthy growing
nothing spectacular, but looks good
this is the point where i usually try to convince myself the slow growth means female, it's a convenient fantasy

Looking good igrowone. Never had fungus gnats, but heard that a great preventative is to sink a hose a few inches into your soil and water through that, then top your pots w/@ least an inch of sand. Get it wet and pack it down. Hope that helps. Good luck on getting a girl. :ying:

thanks for passing on the tip, it's one i've seen but haven't tried
i thought i had solved my fungus gnat problem a while ago by pasteurizing the soil with dry heat
haven't had them in quite a while, at least a year
no signs of them in 10 days, maybe got them from spring water i use, but hadn't been a problem before

Igrowone, Nirvana's Cali-O (pre 2005) was one of my favorate strains. A classic old school hybrid with a killer orange candy taste. While she wasn't as hard hitting as some of the newer strains, she did have lots of subtle sativa effects. One of them was what they described as "occular accuity". Basicilly it seemed to make colors more intense.

I tried growing it again a few years later and wasn't impressed. It seemed Nirvana changed up the parentals, made it much harder to find a keeper.

thanks for stopping by festivus, much appreciate that you've kept the strain going with your seed drops
my quest may be doomed, these weren't pre 2005, but who knows?
maybe they were in the back of the seed box when sold
anyways, i'll see what emerges, some did like the reworks, if you never had the original the substitute may not be as disappointing

That little "lady" is getting big!

thank you, i love the 5500k cfl's, they do some fine vegging
though i've seen the 6400k do head to head with 5500k
they have an edge, still like the idea of the natural sun spectrum(or as close as i can get)

good to have you drop by CB, i'd like a bigger plant
if it turns out small and female, i can go the reveg route
learned the hard way that i have to keep it small, chamber just won't take a large plant, 30 inches is the limit

no pics today, but an interesting development
my 1st 2 grows(which were males) didn't have much in the smell department
this one is a stinker at 5 inches tall, and the smell is skunk
what this portends is unclear to me, but the more experienced may have a thought on this

this plant has really become a stinker, my 1st plant that has made me a little uneasy with the smell
my location is good and remote, but you never know who might drop by
