Truckload of rice

My buddy works at a rice dryer and huller and decided to load up the bed of his truck with the spillovers. I now have 2 55G drums full to the brim with rice. Its pretty dry so im assuming it is between the dryer and huller stages as the hull is still intact.

What can I do with this bounty that will enhance my garden? I plan on keeping half for the chickens to poop out so that leaves me with 55G to do something with.

ideas? I have plenty of yard and a nice compost pile to work with too.

I wont be eating it, thats for sure. If the starving kids in Africa want it they can come by for a scoop. lol.

I'm surrounded by rice this time of year with harvest and all. Chickens really dig it so It wont be wasted.

Im sure I can get mountains of hulls easily but what about the whole kernel? Theres gotta be something useful for the garden there.

I'd sprinkle it in the garden. It should make a good fungal food. If you can sprout it, use the sprouts or run them through the chickens.

Check out the Rev's soil mix.He adds rice to his soil mix,his TLO methods, true living organics. You can always add it to any soil.
Good luck with it and as always safe groing.

Mill it up, and use it as a subtrate base for growing shrooms!

I wouldn't put it into soil, the rice part will rot, and invite pathogens.

if you sprout the rice before you give it to your chickens youll increase there health and there productivity as well as fatten them up.

the sprouts in bulk can be smashed and dried and used with your mulch.

In soil rice is great food for fungi...from what I understand. It doesn't rot but is digested by healthy soil microlife.

I stand corrected. I was regurgitating what I read somewhere else.
I have heard that using rice hulls, and you shouldn't use green but composted material, can support termite problems. That's not a biggie really cause a dose of nematodes will take care of any termite problems. Not many people I've seen work with rice hulls but some claim good for improving general soil structure but must be replenished over time. They're also high in silica.

When I work with soil I throw some rice into the mix. It breaks down pretty quickly in a highly microbially active environment. I guess if you use too much rice you can run into some problems.
