sequioa is beautiful! i love it up there man! if you go up there too late in the year though, you better bring some tire chains and a layer or 2 of heavy clothing!

i'd recommend going through the mojave desert, if anything just to look and drive through, get baked under a joshua tree...check out kelso dunes and the surrounding areas for cool ancient lava flows and the tallest dune in north america, be sure to bring some very light clothing as it gets so bloody hot there! beautiful though

check out the coast, go to santa barbara and go up, take the gaviota campground exit and hike around there a bit, pretty awesome and serene beachside hiking there

there are so many awesome places in california, you might want to check out this show called california gold to get some more ideas, the host, huell howser, goes all around california, often to small not so well known places, and just trips around checking it out and learning about the area from the locals, the guy is a real trip as well so he's pretty engaging imho...one of my favorite shows:
http://www.calgold.com/

...i'd so share a fine spliff of the blueberry i'm puffing with huell, he's the man

I'm Australian, but used to work in the mountains of Lake Tahoe in winter. It was something I kept getting drawn back to year after year.

Fun times, nice country, nice people.

The ganja wasn't bad either.

...if you get to the lake tahoe area, check out angeles dispensary, they have great herb and a nice variety of clones and teens

the lemon thai kush i had there is still one of my all time favorite herbs that i have ever smoked ever EVER! so amazing, lol part of my hackjob breeding experimentation is heading in the lemon thai kush direction, oh man that stuff was so awesome *ahhhhh*

No mention of the Santa Cruz Mtns? Man, Monterey (and the Aquarium), Santa Cruz and the beaches, then the redwoods through Felton, Bonny Doon, Big Basin State Park....simply gorgeous.

Thank you all for the tips and suggestions. What a great group we have here.

I don't think I will make it to LA though, My route would go around it around Pasadena and into Indio.

We are on the way now and having a lot of fun. We stopped by a gas station just to do a final check on my rig before we set off, just to make sure it was all good and I found a $20 bill on the ground. All my life I felt good luck when I found a dime. This was so much good luck I bought a lottery ticket. Everything is going better than expected so far. In fact we stopped to visit family and one is in the process of harvesting 6lbs of bud. We have not talked to him personally yet, just his wife, but the house smells awesome. He is drying it in the attic and it smells all hashy and skunky all around the place. It is making a few family members a bit nervous. Because he is family to my girl she is thinking he is just going to give her a pound. No shit. I don't want to get into specifics, but he is someone that is going to be going to jail for at least a year pretty soon and he expects us to help take care of his wife and child, and we will. We would have taken care of them anyway because we are all so close. I have not seen the weed, but it smells awesome. It is the best smelling early harvest outdoor I think I have ever smelled. Can't wait until tomorrow. I don't know if I can take pictures of it hanging, but I will take some of the buds he gives us. Oh, we are going to help him trim it too. There will be probably three of us trimming all six pounds and I am getting all the clippings as well. He just throws it away usually, but I have some better ideas.

I believe we will be in coastal Northern California probably Monday Night. We are not going to be carrying all the weed with us for obvious reasons. We have a safe spot for it where we are staying this week. It is ready for the jar now (I am told). We will be doing a dry trim. I guess there are two schools of thought on that.

If we make it to Southern California that will not be for a month from now. What that means is when we come back home, if all works as planned, around January, we will have a pound of good weed cured well. We will not have anyone to open the jars for us while we are gone, and that makes me a bit nervous. Whatever the case, leaving it here seems like the only safe option. No need to take sand to the beach and no reason to take extra buds to the land of marijuana.

have fun . i tour cali every few years. follow the sierras up and then haed to coast and back down. fun ass trip. the trip for me starts at hospital rock. coming back to sd is sort of a downer after all that beauty. last trip i brought 8 oz of various weed. met lots of people and toked em up. the next stop after hospital rock is a no camper/rv site . very few if any kids and a stream right next to it. good for swimmin and trout plus toke at will

That sounds like fun. I always try to get a variety to bring home and share with my friends. California is like Amsterdam on steroids when it comes to weed, but it is a great state anyway. I am always pleased when I visit. I love the culture, scenery and the people (believe it or not). I think people are very friendly in California. At least that has been my personal experience. It is the birth place of the hippie.

hit me up if you come thru la and cant find bud lol. If you have never been here before go to venice beach on the weekend, if gf is coming go to santa monica pier/3rd street promenade for shopping. plenty of good food here. if you got money you can rent any car in the world for a day. def. drive up the coast. lots of cool hikes in LA surprisingly. etc.

I have been to California many times and have family all over the state and especially in LA County (Downy, Bell Gardens, Norwalk). My sister was born in LA. In the 70s my father dragged us all over the state. I have memories of being in Orange groves and smelling the flowers. It is very nice.

I had no intentions of going to LA this trip, I was going to cut over to Indio/Palm Springs from I-5 around Pasadena, but my girl friend is pressuring me. She wants to see Hollywood and Universal Studios. I had planned this to be a cheap ass bum trip and she is converting it into something else. I guess I shouldn't deny her, but man, women have a way of making a guy change his game plan.

I seen the weed I will be trimming finally. I think 6lbs is really an understatement, but I am not good at guessitmating weight on a hanging plant. We are going to start trimming after dinner tonight. It is pretty dry now. I am trying to think of a way I can cure this weed for at least a month while I am gone. I may have to put it in something that breathes. My girl said she was going to get a pound and she is. She asked for one this morning and he laughed and said no problem. That's another thing... we are going to have a pound that is samples of several kinds. We don't want to mix it all up.

I need to prepare myself for 2-3 long days of trimming. It's kind of a hairy situation and a visit from the cops doing this will be a disaster. I just keep telling myself that this weekend I will make some bubble.

Huli, I'm too familiar with that area, though I 'grew up' (Dad was Navy til I was 10yo) east of there, near Whittier. My boys were born in Whittier. In any event, you're in the area, WATCH OUT for the various law enforcement patrolling the roadways! Hopefully someone in the vehicle has a recommendation should you get pulled over. A lot of friends are having tough, tough times, and they're pulling over people who don't fit the usual profile. Don't know what you've heard, but these are the reports I'm getting.

I really prefer paper bags for curing, but that's for at home.

Thanks seamaiden, and thanks for the positive points. I like to use bags to dry and from there to a jar. This stuff is pretty dry already. The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards a wooden chest that locks. It will be in a relatively safe or private location, but the house isn't mine. I have use of a tool shed that locks and the wooden box that locks. I think that will be fine. Just to keep the prying eyes of a young kid off of it is all I have to worry about. I think this stuff is dry enough now but a sealed glass jar may be too tight if I am not able to take the lid off once a week or so. My girl friend never fails to surprise me and getting all this weed is just another example.

It has been raining and I wonder what is happening in California. I wonder how many people are doing an early harvest because of it.

It is going to be a long day waiting for our guy to get back home. My girl had to take someone to the doctor for something called Thrush??? It is some weird thing that made her mouth all red. I just had to spend the night in the emergency room because I fell off of a ladder and broke a rib. The hospital is going to think we are scamming them for drugs or something. I hope that is the last trip for awhile. My ribs are pretty messed up. I was painting and the ladder slipped. I fell onto a fan we were running to dry the paint. I hit that sucker so hard, but it could have been a lot worse. I guess I am lucky. Makes smoking weed a bit of a challenge. You do not want to cough with broken ribs. They gave me a shot of something called dilaudid and man is that stuff strong. I was messed up. So here I sit in a bed waiting for everyone. They gave me something pretty strong for the pain but it still hurts to cough. We have been smoking on this weed we are going to trim. I forget what he called it. So many crazy names out there now I rarely pay attention. Pretty good stuff though. Cant wait to get back on the road.

I don't think the hospital is going to think you guys are trying to scam them for thrush drug. IIRC it's a fungus. If we were talking about a horse then I would know its feet were rotting from standing in too-moist conditions.

Falling off a ladder is fecking SCARY to me at this age. I'm glad you didn't bump your head, though cracked ribs can't be fun (how will you toke????). Stay still for a while, hope you heal up with a quickness.

I broke a rib playing football in high school. It sucks when all you can do is rest and try not to breathe too deeply. You should try making some edibles instead of smoking while you're healing. It lasts much longer when you eat it, and there's no risk of coughing. It will augment the painkilling properties of whatever opiates they gave you too.

The young girl with the thrush had a couple things wrong with her and did get some kind of opiate based pain killer. The girl is 16 and knows everything. She calls adults idiots while they are helping her. It is all I can do to just stay quiet and wish her gone. My girl friend took me to the small town emergency room one night and the young girl the next. We smell like resin to high heaven and a few strangers have pointed it out. I smell resin very heavy in my truck cab every time I enter it. A sheet was in there that we used to collect clippings was the culprit. I had to get that out of there so that a routine stop by the police didn't end up in a full vehicle search. I may be a tiny bit paranoid, but the resin smell is everywhere, we are in the presence of a lot of weed and the fellow that we are trimming with is awaiting sentencing on a felony. Where ever we go the women have heated discussions about everything and if a male intervenes it is even louder and draw even more attention. I feel my paranoia may be a bit justified.

I fell off a ladder while painting, a ladder that is not much more than 60cm (2 foot?). It may not seem that high, but I fell straight down, as though I had my feet kicked out from under me. My ribs broke the fall when I made contact with the metal fan. So that fall is over 2M. The doctor was not conclusive on the break. He described the difficulties of only a two plane x-ray and went on and on about different reasons for his lack of conclusion. I just know that if I touch certain parts of my ribs it is extremely painful. It is like a toothache. I can trim okay but that is about all. I cannot do basic things like pull my pants up or tie my shoes. Getting out of bed in the mornings is very hard. I have to take little hits of weed so I don't cough. Doctor said if it is bruised it will heal faster than if it is broken. It would be nice to know how much longer I will be in pain like this.

Monday we are finally heading to California. We have reservations for a hotel in a northern coastal city that is known for weed. It has always been cloudy and rainy every time I have ever been to this town. From what I see online this trip will be no different.

I took some pictures with my android but they are not too good for showing here.
