With your set up I would think the 600 would work great. Also, it would improve your yield a good amount in my opinion. Try it out, I love my 600's.

Question for you guys....
So my question is, how much more heat does a 600 add than a 400? And is the difference in yield that much greater?
:chin:

well i cant give you any answers on the vert side of the differences, i can give a accurate horz difference description. we ran 400 and 430's for years with great results (so we thought). when we finally switched to the 600's we were amazed with the the differences in both yield and temp controls. the 600's give you a good amount more penetration and in return, yield (allot less larf). however, the 600's run quite a bit warmer in my experience. we never really had issues running the 400's, but the 600 all had to be vented and cooled. as always, it was just another learning experience. from what i'm seeing right now in my bloom box (one of my 600 ballasts isnt working so went with a backup 430), the 430 has about a 3-5 degree increase in temp and the 600 is about 7-9 degrees warmer than ambient. was actually about to update my vert and was going to post my temps. i haven't ran both the 600 and the 430 at the same time, but im expecting about a 10 degree increase. i think you're gonna be fine bro as long as you keep tying to the wall, you should have enough room to fill in without burn. gl bro and cant wait to see what the upgrade can do for ya.

Awesome plants marlo!!! I sure don't have much to offer you but back when I first started growing I did a side by side with a 400MH and a 600HPS. The 600 produced way bigger buds and I never used the 400 to flower again.
As for the heat, where I live it gets pretty warm in the summer (I never flower in summer) and I have no probs with my vegger's under the 400 but if I move em under the 600 the room warms up big time! Sorry no specific temp numbers but it gets f_ _ king hot. I don't have AC upstairs and I'd for sure lose my balls if I tried to put one downstairs to keep the girls cool.

LOL ..... i am about 110% sure that you could make 600s work great marlo!

maybe buy one at a time and make sure all the fans and filters can keep up with the heat just to be on the safe side, but again i have a feeling you will make it sing ............. and teach the vertically challenged (like myself) a trick or two along the way.

The heat off a 600 is no joke bro. The difference is big imo, and u would be better off using another 400w lamp in your space. Place them each 1' apart. That'll give u what you're looking for w/ minor changes.

When I grew with 400w lamps, I could bump into the lamp on not burn myself... The 600w will burn you every time. That's the difference in heat... 50% greater.

i agree with everyone, the heat from a 600 is a good bit more than with the 400s. i started with a 400 and moved to 600s... difference in penetration and yield and heat was pretty noticeable... if you got digital ballasts you could always dial them down... great past pictures!

Thanks for all the input guys.
I can tell you that it's already in the 50's at nite around here, and by the middle of this grow until mid-march, it's not gonna get above 70 (with lights on) in the grow room. Cooling the room is pretty easy in the fall/winter.

your a g for not putting cages around your bulbs that dont scare ya lol? ide be having nightmares...

What kind of security do you get from cages?

marlo, ran both my lights last night (430 and 600) and with 70-72 degree ambiant intake air, i was at 77-80 degrees. so thats right where we were expecting it. my ambiant will be about 10 degrees lower once the dead of winter is here. i will say this though. like bobble said, you will get burned with the 600's. found out last night while adjusting the flouro i have in the bloom room (i run ths flouro so i can turn the lights of to work in there). i had hit the 430 a few times without even really noticing. hit the 600 and got a nice burn on my back!

Question for you guys....

I've been putting alot of thought into upgrading to 2 x 600 in here. And now that the fall temps are starting to come around, I'm thinking about it alot again. I know this is a tiny space, but now that the plants are againt the wall, I've gained a few inches on each side. And the light mover changes alot. The lamps aren't stationary long enough to do any damage to buds that would get close.

So my question is, how much more heat does a 600 add than a 400? And is the difference in yield that much greater?

I'm thinking by the time the stretch is over and all the training is done, the switch could be possible.

:chin:

i only ran 1 400 horizontal and am running 1 600 now.my temps at canopy are around 4 degrees warmer.at pots the temps are the same.i am running 70 to 80 at pot.i am running 74 to 84 at top of 3foot vert screen.the 600 puts out alot more light.buy dimmable digital ballasts.if the temps get too hot just run them dialed down to 400.my temps are with my lumatek on highest setting.i think that is 630watts.it is called superlumen or something like that.you were one of the deciding factors of my vertical conversion!

i went from a 400 to a 600 mh in veg and it has made a pretty significant difference.

I think you already know the answer Marlo, with the winter temps the 600's will work fine, Im sure your plants need them to as big as there getting or as bobble said you could do more 400's , two 400 make 800 so maybe thats the answer.

Wow, dunno how I missed you cranking back up but things are looking great. I'd suggest buying 1 600 lumatek dialawatt and making the call for 2 from there. Sounds like you may be ok and I'd expect a worthwhile yield increase if you can keep the temp under control.

Hey Marlo, things got quiet and I know we were talking some vert. Hope ya don't mind me posting up a few of my newb pics here to spice things up while we wait...hehehe.

This is a cross made by Lean Green, G13/Burmese Kush x Blockhead, and I really am starting to love this plant more and more. THIS is happy weed. Up, social, giggles...up all night-no sleep-slap happy type of funk. Really glad she is part of the garden.

But you can clearly see my vert efforts here: these are @ 37 days in 3g NSPB mix, transplanted from 1/2g direct to flower ;)

Still not too sure I'm sold on this vert thing or not. I know I will keep playing with it for another couple rounds. I think my sweet point will be 11 plants in 5g around 2k in a figure 8...although...Your W.o.W. method really has me paying attention. This method is certainly doable in my situation...

Still watching, still learning! :tiphat:

That plant looks great DF. It definitely has the right shape for vert. But if your gonna be using 2k, the plants are gonna have to be bigger, or up the #'s to make it worth it. You see how big my plants are :)

She damn sure has the vert growth profile. Looks like she'll be falling on her face in another week or 2. Perfect.

:tiphat:

update coming soon.....

What do you average per plant? She's 3-4 as is. She was not intended for vert...I know she could do more if actually trained from first roots for a specific method...but just kinda playing. Do you veg them 3/4 wall before flip as in a normal scrog?

damn that plush looks like something special....got 10/10 germ ratio and they are off and running. reup'd on a few packs of sour bubble and sour boggle, BOG has some solid genetics love the quick flower time..

if i find a male i might do some random server fund crosses....got a GDP and cherry pie dying for some pollen..the fruity dark purple mixed with some sour bubble sounds interesting!

I wouldn't have guessed 3-4 zips. Probly cuz I'm used to airy 400W buds.
To me it looks like the plant isn't tall enough to absorb the whole vertical spread of a 1k light, which is 4-5 feet right? Thats why you see multi level stadiums 5 ft hi, with a single row of 1k's. Gotta make the most of the canopy just as you would in a horizontal grow, u know? If you had a big empty space under a light, you'd veg longer...or stick more plants in there til it was full.

I veg em horizontal most of the way....but I try to make em have long arms and keep em thin and flat to get em ready for the wall. Once theyre against the wall, its easy.

Thats great Y4P. 10/10 always makes me smile :)
I stocked up on Sour Bubble a few releases ago. Got enough to last me a long while. Keep me posted on how the Plush treats you bro. I hope there is something in there worth keeping

:thank you:
