Week 1 update

Week 1 update

Transition is over!

The HPS is in on 12/12, inches from the canopy. Begun to feed flower nutes. Week 1 consists of Sensi A&B and Bud Candy. Temps stay below 80 degrees at the canopy and RH is about 30%.

I'm adding two new things to this grow, AN Overdrive (using weeks 6 & 7), and AN Final Phase. The reason I'm using a flush is to continue feeding up until the last week. A two week starvation period doesn't make sense to me. But an assisted flush on the final week does.

Some bad news. I think I have either 2 males, or 1 male and a hermaphrodite. I know it's early, but you be the judge.

This is the coffee-smelling pheno. I think it's male.

The next two are the same plant. Hermaphrodite?

I would play it safe and let them chill for another couple of days to be sure. I know that in the past I've had suspicions and then they ended up female since I waited to be sure. I don't know what your space constraints are but if you can afford it wait another couple to be sure.

sex update

happy Monday everyone. waited over the weekend to see if they would show sex and....

Schwagseed 1 appears to be female, while the coffee pheno is male :( smells more like fermented/moldy coffee now - really strong smell.

The male is spindly, stretchy, and appears to be starting nut clusters. Perhaps you can help me determine this. I'm going a couple more days just to be certain.

Grapefruit continues to grow nicely, short, bushy, pretty amazing for a sativa with an 8-9 week flower cycle. I'll provide additional training so she can fill out in the right spots.

I might have a small pest problem but they're only eating the schwagseed, thank god. No damage to the grapefruit. Don't know how to identify pests, never had them.

Picture time.

Damage from pest of some sort.

Nice grow bud, I'm digging on that grapefruit can't wait to see how she turns out. That one male was showing some balls from the pics you posted on the first page, sucks that it ended up being that way. Hopefully your other bagseed will be off the hook for you though.

Yeah man, looks like a male. As far as pests go try and keep your eyes open and you will see them. I would try to identify what you have for sure before you start treating for different things but I would definitely look into this stuff when you get a chance. http://www.greners.com/monterey-garden-insect-spray.html Completely organic. I used it on my girls mid flower when I saw one thrip larvae. Never saw so much as a sign of anything else the rest of the grow. Hit 'em hard, and hit 'em early.

Thanks everyone. I killed the male and now there are two plants in there. pic updates Friday with nute change.

thanks for the suggestion who dat! thrips sort of suck moisture out of the plant leaving little white spots all over near the center of the leaf. i've got something chewing holes in my plant! but it appears that MG insect spray kills other stuff too. might be worth using. thanks again!

it's only the bagseed, grapefruit appears resistant. another reason starting with good genetics is advisable. she does smell like a mixed-flavor jolly rancher. pretty cool.

starting week 2

starting week 2

Hey everyone. Just a quick update before I get into weekend mode. :bandit:

Kicking myself for not vegging a little longer but I'm going to make the best of what I have and try to squeeze every drop of THC out of these two plants.

Stretch is less than I anticipated. In the first week only about 4 inches were added. This is possibly due to my light practically sitting on top of the screen and it rarely gets raised. I expect this week it'll have to get raised once or twice as Big Bud helps build floral structure.

The week of MH in flower (transition) really helped with internode length and is keeping both plants short and squat.

This week's nutrient blend is Sensi A/B, Bud Candy, Big Bud. I'll use Superthrive just like B-52 (weeks 3-6 in flower) in very low doses.

You'll see below the screen hasn't been tended to. Any suggestions on when to trim below would be helpful.

Have a great weekend everyone! :abduct:

Mostly even canopy. Things aren't settled down yet.

White balance adjusted... not very well.

What are these little white things all over my precious grapefruit!? :dance013:

Looks good. What about the little girl on the right though? She's hardly getting any light compared to the other plant.

the plant on the left looks great man, i wouldn't veg it a second more! They usually fill up the rest of the net in flower if you flip when they have covered about 60-70% of the net.

Looks like the plant on the right have gotten way less light then the one on the left! Id recommend raising your light for a more even light distribution.

Good luck!

14 days 12/12 update

14 days 12/12 update

Thanks for the feedback Whodat and Loki. I've since raised the light and begun training the scrawny Mexican girl so she has better light access. It's really nice to have a second/third/50th set of eyes as I'm usually medicated.

Topped up both reservoirs and grapefruit appears to be eating very lightly. EC was at 2.4 and pH was 5.2. This tells me that she isn't eating very much. Topped her off and brought it down to 1.5 and pH to 5.5. The Mexican girl is eating normally just at a slower rate.

After next week I'll have a better idea of how much she eats and will adjust nutrient strength accordingly.

Have a great weekend everyone! :ying:

Nice to hear you raised the light :) Going to be interesting to see how she develops with some more light.

Have a great weekend you too :)

I know it's early for an update, but once I got things dialed in, they both took off! :dance013:

I also want to recommend a product you'll see in these photos. I'm super happy with them! Way better than string, twist ties, pipe cleaners, wire, or anything else I've tried.

you can cut to any size an they're reusable. super soft on the plants yet strong enough to hold them anywhere you want them.

Good work HG !

Looking forward to see that GF develop :) One of the best strains I've had the pleasure to grow and smoke.

Tagging along for the ride, all the best for the rest of your grow, and keep us posted

Looking very good man!

Nice and even canopy with some beautiful sativa phenos!

Im also using that wire! Not the same company but looks exactly the same, it really works great! Im using it in my current grow for some LST under the scrog net!

Highly recommend it to everyone doing some LST :)

I apologize for the lack of updates, so let me try to explain what's been going on here.
Soon after my last post, my 250 watt ballast decided to give out; most likely related to some electrical work that was being performed outside of my home. As an emergency measure I brought back the 150. The light penetration is terrible in contrast to the 250. Not only the penetration but the coverage in the tent was far lower. As a result, every Bud that was not within reach of the 150 began to stretch for period of about four days. Also some leaves suffer sunburn as the 150 is not cooled.

I contacted the company from whom I purchased the light. They were extremely unresponsive and after leaving a flaming review on their Amazon seller’s page I finally got a response. Make a long story short, the ballast was indeed the problem and things are now back on track.

At this point I’d I’m about 5 to 7 days behind. Now that the 250 has had some time to bathe area, the production of resin glands has increased quite a bit. I’ll have some new pictures up in a few days showing the stretch that happened. I’ll also wind up with more popcorn and then I wanted.

I am disappointed with the growth that the bagseed is showing. It's very spindly and stretchy and the buds are very small in comparison to grapefruit. I think the yield on this plant is going to be terrible.

Cheers for now.

Day 34 Update

Day 34 Update

Tomorrow is the 5 week mark leaving 3 weeks left. Overdrive is going to be introduced for two weeks prior to the flush.

once I put the 250 back in the tent, the resin production really began. I attribute the resin production that I didn't see in my previous grows to the increased light coverage. With the 150 W light covering 4.8 ft.² I wind up with 31.25 W per square foot. With the 250 I get just over 52 W per square foot. I've read the minimum is 33. Don't know how accurate that is, I've just been using it as a guideline.

I love watching scrog grows, this one is nice too. I want to try one soon but I like being able to pull the pots out and move them around too. Such a dilemma.
