Higher Plant # vs longer Veg...thoughts?

Hey folks. if I could get some thoughts/experiences on this particular subject I would be GREATLY obliged...heres the skinny...

I just wrapped up a successful round of Mandala Safari Mix under a 250w HPS and probably got about 4-5 ounces dry off of 5 LSTed plants (one of the plants actually was a revegged f13xSDOG from an earlier grow) in about 1.5 gallons of soil each...fast foward to the next grow...

I got a fem mix of 5 seeds from greenhouse, germed them all, ended up with 3 strong plants, one potential runt and a white rhino that kinda pooped out before even breaking soil.

I think my last veg time was about 45 days from first sprouting...with large (5 gal) containers, could I possibly pull a similar amount with a 50 day veg pd? I know thats a broad question..but I'm kinda scrambling from going to 5 plants down to 3. I need to pull a good harvest!!

I'm not sure how many days it will take, just make sure you have a nice canopy when you flip and you should do fine. That is depending on the strain of course, you know better than I as to how much they stretch.

Thanks Sam! I am hoping to grow out some serious bushes for this run...after examining my floor space I don't think it should be as much of a problem going down to 3 plants. I am only working with a 36x22 footprint. I always get nervous when plants are in the seedling stage!

Also, my Great White Shark is pulling through somehow, the round cotelydons have fallen off and some tiny "true" leaves seem to be keeping things alive (but I dont know if growing much, yet)

So for this round my strong contenders are Trainwreck, Lemon Skunk and Cheese all from GHS. They are vigorous little buggers, but so far not quite as tenacious as the Mandala Safari's were, if memory serves me correctly. =

Okay, I am stoned and typing...cheers to whoever has the misfortune of reading! ;)

Larger plants yield more.Small plants yield faster.
I always veg my plants as long as possible.
If you know the plant you can veg it to a good size to fit the room.
I just bend my girls over under the lights.Veg them big then bend them over to fill the light space.
Good Luck.

Checkout Kodiak's sticky on topping ect. @ the top of this forum. Toward the end he makes some points you my be interested in.

just grow them till the canopy is filled (depending on height restrictions)

dunno, 15 days more than the last time?

Hey, hey! Interesting points, and different takes on the subject. As a devout LSTer I need to get a little more friendly with topping for this round, especially since I am going to veg longer...maybe some of the tops can get bigger before going into flower.

I think this is the last time (or for a while) that I grow mixed strains...I really want to get a perpetual setup with clones going so I can better know what to expect. I've found with a lower wattage (250) lamp having things dialed-in really counts.

This pack of seeds is marketed as an indica strain, so I'm wondering what to expect as far as stretch and nutrient requirements. I both love and hate the process of feeling things out with new plants.

sso, I think you're suggestion is probably what's going to happen. Last time I left about 25-30% of my footprint uncovered to account for stretch (I was growing mandala genes out though that were more on the sativa side...this time I will let them really fill out the tent and then flip it...if I can top early and get good momentum, I may not even need more time than last round as I wont have a window of time devoted to sexing and waiting as well as nothing taking up valuable real estate in the tent.

I need to get some photos of the previous gang up! Thanks to each of you for responding and for your suggestions!

I've always wondered the same thing. I think its a tuned mix of both to best fit your growing environment, height, depth, growing method, etc.

more plants/less veg will win in the long run because you will get more cycles per year. but with that said, canopy fullness is the key to having a great harvest with both methods so whichever method achieves that for you is whats best

at the end of the year, for the amount of work you do and the money you spend it will all equal out, mm
