What's new

how much longer will the basement commercial grower survive?

We are already seeing 2500 for a pound of A+++ in Colorado due to their friendly laws.

How much longer do the small time commercial guys have before they need to start working on their resume? When will the price go all the way down?

the price will go all the way down when full legalazation takes place or 90% of the states go medical. until then if you want more than you must go to non med states where greater risk reaps more reward its simple economics supply vs demand

Exactly, less mj friendly states = higher prices because less people are growing and there is less bud around for sale.

i doubt it.. but if so... ya'll sold out. can we see pics of this A+++ please?

yeah, that's what i thought too. heard it's moved back up over that dispensary intertrade rate... again, dispensary grade... a far hoot from heady grade.

but as long as there is nat'l prohibition, it'll be profitable.

Personally, I don't think it will ever completely go away...smart folks just adapt anyways...so again, I think those mid-level guys will still have their niche to fill.

Using Cali as a model(no offense Cali peeps) leads me to believe that the underground will remain there.

You have to tap into the gulf-stream for the real rides, that doesn't happen consistently enough for my liking in many instances(MMJ).

Has to be 'The Ring'

Gotta love you guys down in Colorado bitching about 2500 dollar pounds. If you can't make a living off that then you're doing something wrong. After the Feds came to Montana we had to let go of lbs for 2000 of primo organic OG Kush.

The price has gone back up around here now...due to the fact that many store owners are facing federal indictments, and our entire MMJ industry is under heavy attack, our law has been replaced with a repeal bill known as SB 423. Take the low prices its a sign that you live in a state where you have some protections from the law.
I'd love for the low prices to come back, unfortunately high prices are prevailing around here and I have to wake up every morning knowing my door could be kicked in and I might spend some time in jail.

Man up...buttercup.

Its a dynamic market, lots of push and pulls going on. Seasonal, too. When the Cali OD harvest comes down (this time of year), prices tend to plummet, particularly the B-grade bulk rates.

What happened in Colorado was the laws forced dispensaries to run their own warehouses. Most of those warehouses were run half-ass and only produced B-grades at best. The state became overrun with nothing but half-ass bud and it was all funneling into the black and grey markets. Now the law came back in and closed a lot of these warehouses, while the rest have somewhat gotten their shit together. With all the tracking regulations for dispensary bud now, it has actually separated the dispensary market from the grey/black markets, so we have different price tiers for different grades, depending on who is able to buy or sell. Dispensaries are wholesaling between each other for 24-2600, while the grey market has had a resurgence to 32-34's again!

Indeed.

The 'basement grower' will survive for years to come.

People tend to overestimate how quickly the laws will change federally and in other states base on what happened in CO, MT and CA. But even when they do, they may not be as liberal. See Rhode Island for example.

Here its easy to get 3500 for commercial quality. Connoisseur quality can fetch a bit more, and this is wholesale. The dispensary's can still make a good amount off it too. Thats only like 220 a zip. Easy to get rid of it underground for 250-300 a zip. Quality seems to be going up steadily here... think people are getting a hang on things.

in my opinion the price only goes down because growers let it! supply and demand. they need the supply so the growers can demand a price. too many people lookin for a quick flip because they cant save money to pay the bills. meanwhile you are the fucking man if you can cop a lb for 4k on the EC.
