Most models that size have some sort of thermostat. Only some have a temperature interface, others have settings between 1 and 10 etc. Some have a dial with a color variation. The latter two are harder to set to a particular degree.

Try one of your 18k units in veg and see how much overkill you have, might help to guess what's necessary.

damm good idea i didnt think of that wold suck. i have an environment controller ive heard there were ways to tie them together not sure. glad you said something. i was thinking if it a minisplit it would have a digital one i would have been up set if i didnt catch that thanks disco. im in the same boat right now trying to fig out what to do my self i foung some Klimaire that were two for the price of one Mitsubishi. so im gona have to watch this thread

i was thinking mini split for security reasons. light leaks, hell someone just snatching or pushing the unit in then the fact id have one on atleast three windows idk. so sam what minisplits in the lower budget range do you suggest? i mean if you install it right by vacuum on the lines etc. it has a better chance of lasting awhile right. hell if it last two to three years it will definitely pay for itself

Having 2 or 3 exterior mini split units outside is going to be just as suspicious, if not more so, as 2 or 3 window units. The crackheads around here only go after the larger condensor units, there is lot more aluminum in those and they are an easier target. If someone wants to break into your house, they will find a way, just don't be an easy target. If your window unit leaks light, it can be fixed really easily with some aluminum tape.

As for suggestions on which mini split to get, I don't know much about the different brands. I can't see myself getting one any time soon so I haven't really looked. I'll be in rentals for a few years to come and window units are cheap and practical. Even if I owned, I still don't think the extra money spent is worth it, not for a grow room.

just my opinion though

hell im not sure if an 18000 btu would fit in my window anyway lol i guess it would didnt really think of that as an option. that would look big hangong out of every bedroom

I've seen 30,000 in a sash window. You have to go out of the way to support them and do what's practical to lessen chance of theft.

wow, 30k btu, that thing must weigh at least 200 lbs. I just picked up a 23k unit yesterday and that thing is heavy, probably 140 - 160 lbs.

I would think the weight and bulk of these larger units would be a deterrant in itself and the mere fact that they are secured in a window. Compared to a regular split a/c, which one could wheel away on a dolly within minutes, they would be much more of a pain to steal.

you don't think putting a window ac in a window and running it 12+ hours a day i nthe winter isn't suspicious?

Also.. are you even allowed to install mini split units in rentals?

you could build AC boxes and just vent the hot air somewhere, that way you dont have AC's hanging out windows running during the winter.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Disco- that is a beast of a unit. Damn! Good call on the thremostat.

Sam- Im not so much worried about someone stealing the unit. Just worried it might just be an easy way to break in. I want them to at least work a lil harder that that.

ss843- Yea it would look pretty funny with two big ass units hanging out of the bed rooms.

BigDawg- That is another one of the main reasons I'm scared to run window bangers. The owner has recently moved out of this place and to another state. I am in the building business and the house needs work. He said to do what ever i wanted to the house. Any holes or wiring I have or need to do can be repaired and covered when I need to. So no worries there.

Headees- Dont want to lose the floor space to do that. I know I could do it on a shelve and go through the attic etc but just don't want to go that route. Not a big house and want to utilize as much room as I can for the lovely ladies ya know.

Hell I would love to be able to do it for 500 a pop. I could probably get away with it. Vinyl window would make securing it a bit harder but i could rig something up. As said earlier, looks funny running multiple big ass ac's in lil house. especially in winter time.

Some people on here have had to of had mini split advice. All these people on this site added up probably account for 1 third of all Google ac searches ever done lmao.....

OK HERE GOES..... WHAT YOU NEED WANT IS A MULTIZONE MINISPLIT, THAT MEANS ONE CONDENSER/COMPRESSOR SECTION AND MULTIPLE AIR HANDLERS IN SIDE. PROBLEM SOLVED AS U ONLY HAVE ONE CONDENSER OUTSIDE(NOT AT ALL SUSPICIOUS) BE CLEVER AND MAKE THE REFRIGERANT LINE CONNECTIONS VERY NEAT AND BUNDLED TO THE CONDENSER.
THE DOWN SIDE IS THAT SETUP IS GONNA COST YA.

yea buzzmirk that was my first idea but since i will have to buys cheap units i didnt want both flowering rooms or the whole show to rely on one unit. i fig if i went with two if one went down id still have a room going. depending on the units ya buy its almost as cheap to run two units.
bobman one flower room is 114 sq ft the other is 108 sq ft. i didnt want to air cool the lights this time. only half of the fixtures i have are air cooled anyways. the rooms will have atleast 4- 600 watters each i also have two 1000 i can through in there if needed. i know the ac size i picked is a lil over sized not much by time you add equipment duey etc... it gets hot here so a lil bigger ac would help anyways.

I'd go off the ambient temps. Run lights w/o AC long enough for peak temp. For example, lights off - same temps in each room. Lights on - your veg room temps increase only half as much as flower. In this case you need ~9 or 10k btu. You've already plus-sized the cooling in flower and this aspect should apply in veg.

If you had to cut corners, a few temps higher in veg wouldn't hurt much.

thanks disco yea i fig the veg room would need 5000 btu for the room by itself without lights etc. this house isnt well insulated at all and does not have central heating and cooling
